Chapter Two

Dally's POV
Darry was gone? Bull. Darry could fight off anyone, he.. he's not gone.
"That's bull." I argued, standing up and facing Soda. The poor kid was cut up pretty bad. But not as bad as Darry, apparently. "It's true, Dal. The Socs caught us walkin home and they knocked him out cold. Don't ask how, those guys were stronger than him. We gotta find Darry!"
I looked back at Johnny and Pony. Soda's brother was crying. Stupid kid. "You fool, quit cryin man. You don't cry because you loose someone." I yelled, glaring down at Pony. Johnny put his arm around his buddy, giving me a look. I knew that look. Johnny gave me this look when he knew I needed to back down. Like when my old man was yellin at me and I shouted back. Johnny gave me that exact look. I turned around and faced Soda again. "Take us to Darry."
The four of us ran down the streets. Steve Randle caught up with us and ran, too. "What's goin on, I was eating cake!"
"You idiot, the Socs took Darry." I shouted, running a bit in front of Soda. He pushed ahead, running towards the police station. "You guys head towards the lot, they've got him there!" He yelled. I shouted an okay, leading the other three towards the lot. Four Socs had Darry surrounded. His hands were tied, and they were beating him. Fists, feet, and blades. "Let him go!" Pony shouted, jumping on Paul's back. He wrapped an arm around the kids throat, slugging him with the open arm. I swung at who I thought was Randy, but it turned out to be David Hall. Crash. My buddy. Catherine's brother. Beating the fool out of Darry. "Crash!" I yelled, kicking him in the stomach. He stumbled back, where I pushed him to the ground. Steve helped Darry out of the ropes, and they both teamed up on a weak looking Soc. David jumped back up, only to be met by a metal pipe to the face. I probably knocked a few teeth loose. Sucks for him. Johnny had one kid running, so he helped Pony fight the first Soc. "Get em, Johnny!" I yelled over my shoulder, kicking David to the ground and repeatedly bashing him with the pipe. He screamed, lifting his hands in defeat. I kicked him one more time, then backed off. "You get the hell out of here, David. Don't come back." David ran off towards his house, limping and stumbling on the way. I jumped in with the rest of the gang on Paul. Darry had knocked out some other kid, so now we all were in on Paul. We took turns beating him, but I stepped in with a switchblade, and they backed off. "Hey man, I didn't start this.. Me and Darry are buddies." He stammered. "You get out of here, and take your friend with you." I ordered. He nodded, grabbing the kid and running. I turned to Darry. "You okay man?"
Darry looked surprised. "You're asking me if I'm okay?" He smiled, while Steve laughed. "Awwwww Dal's got a soft side for Darrryyyyyy." Ugh, screw off Steve. Go find some cake or something. God I wish I would've said that to his face.
Pony slapped Steve, and I looked at Darry. "Yea man, you cool?" He nodded, then I heard Soda scream. He was running towards us. "Darry!" He shouted, jumping on his brother. They wrestled on the ground. "Idiots." I mutter, walking off.
I knocked on the Hall's door, and Catherine answered. "Hey, Cath." I smirked, and she stepped outside. In an instant my hand were on her waist, and she was pulled into a kiss. Yea, I liked her. No, the gang wouldn't know. I pulled away, smiling. "Hey, Dally."
Taking her hand, I ran off. She followed with a laugh, and we ran to the now empty lot. It was dark out now. I took off my jacket, laying it down so she could sit down. Catherine sat down, and pulled me down beside her. We lay against the tree in silence, then she took my hand. "Dally, can I ask you something?"
"Yea, Cath?" I asked back, looking over at her. "Did you attack David?"
I sighed. "He had Darry tied up and had some Socs beating him up. I needed to get my buddy out of danger." She thought for a minute. "So, you'd do anything for the ones you love?"
Love. I don't love anything. I don't love her, I don't love the gang, I don't love anything. I might care about... nope. I don't care either. Tough guys don't have feelings. Didn't she know this?
"I don't love anything." I muttered. Catherine lay her head on my chest, letting out a long breath. "Good thing I'm not a thing, then, huh?" She laughed, looking up at me. Yea, maybe I love Catherine. But no one will ever know.
