Brenda handed Eve the receiver

'Sam?'
'Eve, How are you?

Sam didn't wait for an answer...
'Lady Dulitch has asked us to stay for the weekend.
I'll pick you up tomorrow at 4'

'Well I don't know if I can' Eve didn't like people organising her life for her, her mum was always trying to do that. 'I might be going out...'

'Ok, I'll explain to Lady D when I go over,
If you like I can ring you Monday night
to say if I've found anything or solved it?'

Eve answered almost too quickly
'It's fine, I'll cancel, 4 o'clock is fine'

'Ok, 4 then bye' Sam put the recover down
Smiling to himself, as he made for the pub.

'Er, See ya...'
Eve put her receiver down annoyed with herself for being such a push over,
But her curiosity had gotten the better of her.

Brenda's ear was on red alert,
'Going out with that Sam again
Are you sure that's wise dear....'

'Well my orders are all up to date and...
We found Ed, and I want to know what's going,
That broach is still missing and ....'

'But 4 o'clock, it will already be dark darling
I worry about you'

'Mum, I'm a big girl now.
I'm just assisting Mr. Walton with this one case.
And anyway Lady Dulitch wants us to stay the weekend, to see if we can find out what's going on there.'

'The weekend', Brenda was shocked. That Craig rang again. He said he's an accountant, I think he wants to ask you out on a date.'

'Mum, I don't want to date Craig, I'm hoping he will get the hint'

'That's a pity.' Brenda knew Craig was toast, Eve was strong willed, always had been even as a child'

'Anyway, I expect you're out with your Canadian man again'

Brenda blushed, 'He's just a friend I met at the library.

'Ah, secret liaisons at the library' Eve knew she had done enough to fluster her mother's attention away from a weekend at Harbinger Towers.

'He's a writer, just interested in English village life for a new book he's writing, it's a mystery'

'It certainly is' replied Eve.
