"There is always a wild side to an innocent face,"
Chapter : 28
Red
My heart pounded up towards my throat, and I choked on my breath as I heard another voice, a voice that didn't belong to Nana. Before anything, I immediately closed the call and hid the phone behind me. Turning around, I found Luciano's mother, Jaqueline, standing in front of the door.
"What?"
"You're a witch, Red. Shouldn't you be aware of that already?" she asked as she stepped inside my bedroom.
"I am sorry but I–"
"Your parents have hidden that from you?" she asked.
"No, my parents died when I was young. I lived with my grandmother until recently," I replied, blinking with bafflement. I wasn't a witch. No way! I couldn't be.
Aren't witches supposed to be wicked or evil or something? I was clearly none of that.
"That makes sense. Usually, Alphas get mated to creatures that are stronger than werewolves. I was surprised as well when I found out that Vincent was my mate, that was a hundred years ago." She laughed while shaking her head.
100 years? She didn't even look a day older than 40.
"I...I don't understand. I am a human, not a witch." I was in disbelief. I took a moment to catch my breath. It couldn't be true.
"You are, Red. Only a witch can smell another witch. Although, you seem like a very...weak one." She stated as her eyes trailed down my body.
Mixed feelings surged through me as she spoke. There was an unusual reason why I felt strange around her when she first stepped inside the castle. I wasn't scared of her being Luciano's mother or anything along those lines. Her presence simply weakened me, and if it was the truth, it made sense.
I lowered my gaze in confusion as reality struck me. There was no way I could be a witch. Nana must have known.
"How do you know? Why should I trust you? How do I know that I am a witch? I don't know how to do magic, and I never learned any of that back in my home." I explained.
"You don't need to practice witchcraft in order to be a witch. You come from a family of witches. Was your mother a one too?"
"No!" Denial was evident in my tone. "No...I don't know." I calmed down. There was no reason to argue or be confused. However, my mind refused to register that I was a witch.
"Well, I believe your family kept a secret then. Witches usually get paired to alphas; it is pretty common. I doubt Luciano..." she scoffed before continuing. "I doubt anyone in this castle knows what you are,"
No one did.
"Please, don't tell anyone. I don't know. I had no idea. I have to talk to my Nana." I begged.
"I won't. Quite surprised though, I didn't expect history to repeat."
"What do you mean?" I asked as I fiddled around, still confused.
"Well, I was mated to a to a king hundred years ago and look now, you are mated to my son, who is the next king of the alphas." Her eyes conveyed the fury within. It seemed like she didn't want to be mated to Vincent.
"Is it bad?"
Jaqueline got up from the mattress. Her heels echoed as she walked towards the door. "One the thing is for sure, alphas and witches don't along, ever. Be careful. I will be around, of course, but don't tell anyone that you're a witch until you can learn to protect yourself."
"But Luciano is nice," He wouldn't harm me.
"So is Vincent. It isn't about who you are mated with, Red. It's about their men, their kingdom, they will never accept a witch as a queen. And even if they do, they will do everything to take away your throne." Her cold eyes sniped at me. There was a hint of sadness in them but a lot of strength.
"I should not tell anyone?" I furrowed my eyebrows together and asked.
How could I keep such a big secret? How could Nana keep such a big secret from me? When did this all happen? There was more to the story, and I was determined to find out the entire truth about my family – specifically the Wallow's.
"You shouldn't, and don't worry; they won't find out. Only witches can smell witches. We are stronger than werewolves."
"But you're a Lycan?" I stated.
"I killed my wolf years ago,"
I gasped in fright. Was that even possible?
"I will see you around," she smiled before killing the gasping silence and walking out of the room.
I slapped my hand over my mouth and locked the door before stumbling across the bed. A strange chill went through my body, and I forced down a sickening feeling. If this was the truth, it was going to change a lot of things...in many ways.
I dialed back to Nana, but she never picked up. The call continued to ring, but after several rings, it went to voicemail. I tried again and again, but it didn't go through. Assuming she must've slept, I laid down on the bed and pressed my hands against my stomach.
It could change a lot of things.
Luciano believed that I was human, and I couldn't be bred by a werewolf.
–
I woke up the next morning beside Luciano. I had no memory of him coming inside the room last night as I must've been sleeping. Watching him asleep grew a churning feeling inside me. A quick disturbing thought rushed through my mind, and I shook it off before it could affect me.
Mrs. Jaqueline's words were still ringing in my head. I was frightened by the truth. I did trust her, but a part of me wanted to make sure. I needed to call Nana again, but Luciano was sleeping beside me, and I couldn't make a call in front of him.
As Luciano turned around, his bare, chiseled chest came in my view, and I immediately looked away. Just a small view of his body took away every tension growing inside my mind.
"If you want something, you just have to ask, Red. No need to eye-fuck me all the time,"
I jumped out of horror as I heard his voice. When did he wake up?
"No, no," I swallowed hard. "I wasn't staring...I was just thinking." I looked away from his body.
"Really? I must've interpreted wrong then,"
"Yes, I wasn't looking at anything." I got off from the bed before his skin could crawl its way to mines.
There was no simple touching in this relationship. Everything led to sex, sex, and sex. And I was still aching from our yesterday's mind-blowing session on the dressing table. He didn't even bother pounding me on the bed.
"Where are you going?" he asked as he turned around and watched me wear my clothes.
"To the washroom,"
"I want you here," he patted on the bed.
"No, then you will do it again, and then I will limp around the hallways for the rest of the day."
Luciano laughed out loud, "Oh, that's a sight to see."
"Can I ask you something?" I spoke in a serious tone.
"Yes?"
"What happened yesterday?"
"Nothing. Why?"
I shook my head and narrowed down my gaze, "Just asking. Are you going to be free today?"
"No, why?"
"Oh..." I licked my lips and continued. "I want to see my Nana before everything. I really miss her,"
"Is that the reason why you're so down since yesterday?" he asked as he got up from the bed.
"Yes,"
"Alright, Red, if that's what you want then you're going to get it. I will take you to her. Anything else?"
Spoken like a true gentleman.
