Chapter 25

I curled my fingers around the bag of groceries we fetched from the market. The smell of salmon sickened me and if it wasn't for Anna, I'd probably had thrown it away or never bought it in the first place.

"How much longer are we going to wait?" I said, pushing the bags inside the rented car that was parked in front of me.

We went out of the house to meet with Cordelia, and the only way we could leave was by asking permission from Dillion. We had to make up an excuse to why we were leaving early in the morning. Anna decided it was going to because of salmon, and that she was very specific in eating meals and choosing her own choice of meat.

We only had an hour before Dillion would began suspecting.

"Just a few minutes. She's going to be here anytime soon." Anna replied, pulling her sunglasses down to her nose. She had her hands on the steering wheel while mine smelled like salmon, like I had just pulled them out of an ocean filled with fishes.

God.

We were inside parking lot, waiting, patiently. A black, tinted car parked at the entrance of a coffee shop, a woman—Cordelia walked out, and into the shop without ever looking at us. Anna squeezed my arm, motioning me to get out of the car and we did.

We went straight into the coffee shop and just before entering, we looked back, making sure no one had been following us. Sonya, head of Dillion's house, had her eyes on us the entire morning.

I followed Anna into the coffee shop. We sat beside Cordelia and ordered a few drinks for ourselves.

"This better be good. I was in the middle of a spell and I had to leave it to come here." Cordelia snapped, leaning back on the couch.

"It is." Anna gestured at me and I began.

"There was an Alpha in town last night—"

"Bernard? That bastard's always around." She rolled her eyes, the morning gloom in her face growing. "Continue." Cordelia plucked two tissue papers and began cleaning the dirt off her hands. My eyes lowered at her fingers and for a second I thought she had dug someone's grave up but again, she was a witch and playing with dirt was one of the normal things witches did.

"Well, I was able to find something in the library in the East Wing of the house. It was Dillion's diary—or like something he wrote to a woman of his past. I wasn't able to find her name but I did read that he left you because he felt like he was betraying her." I explained before gulping down a bottle of water.

Cordelia awakened, her face turned into a scowl and she stopped cleaning her hands. "What?" I could almost feel the anger behind her question. "Who is that woman?"

I shrugged. "I didn't have much time to get her name but I will soon!"

"That's a half-ass job done well." She said, eyes twinkling.

Anna cut me before I could start. "At least she did something. It wouldn't be long before we would get her name but, we just want to be sure whether or not that's all you want. Or is there something else we should be looking for?"

There was a thin, stretched silence between all of us when the waiter came and served us with our coffee's. We put on a smile for that little moment and as soon as she walked away, we changed.

"That's all I want. Her name and the name of any other woman in his life." Cordelia continued, anger lacing in her voice.

"That woman is probably dead because Dillion referred to her as past couple of times." I said, taking a sniff of the dark coffee I had ordered and rolling my hair between my fingers.

"Then why does he cares about her?"

Anna took a long slurp from her hot coffee, "Maybe because she was his mate. Werewolves have mates, if you don't know that."

Cordelia swatted her hand, "I know, I know. What else do you have?" She asked, confidently, as we knew everything in this world. I couldn't understand—if she was such a strong witch, why couldn't she get Dillion with her spells and magic?

"That's all." Anna replied. "Apart from the servant Brenda who has been serving love potions to Dillion for I don't know how long. Maybe you should look at that as well. There might be more than one woman in his life that's keeping him away from you."

Ah, Brenda.

It was unbelievable. What was so great about Dillion? Why did Cordelia want to be with him so badly? Why did he have so many women chasing behind him, especially at this age?

I watched Cordelia tense up quickly at the mention of another woman. She cleared her throat and said, "I'll see to that soon. I only know there are few other witches in this town, and they all work for me. None of them would want Dillion as they know he belongs to me." Her voice was distorted, worried.

"Wow." I let out a small chuckle, low and quick.

Her head snapped at me and she frowned. "Get me the name of the woman in his diary, get his diary, get the name of the woman Brenda is working for and you both will be free after that."

I gasped, turning my head over to Anna in disbelief. She gave her a short wink before looking away. "We will get you all that. Just need a few days."

"Good. Then we are done here. When you have the rest information, call me, until then, don't bother!" Cordelia slapped a few notes on the table before getting up and walking out of the coffee shop.

"She seemed sad." I murmured at her departure.

Anna scoffed, "Who wouldn't be? She is in love with Dillion and he hates her. She doesn't wants to harm him, I can see that."

Cordelia's eyes told us everything, she was hurt and anger upon hearing that Dillion only parted ways from her because of another woman. I could tell she cared about him long ago.

"I guess so." I sighed, to my relief. "But, whatever, we just have to do our work and we will leave town then." A part of me was grateful that Cordelia was nothing like Gretel even when she showed a few signs of evil but all that was just too cover up her weakness's.

"We have to get the diary, and anything else that can connect the dots, including who Brenda works for!" My sister said, holding her cup in her hands.

"I'll try tonight."

Only if Luciano wasn't there to distract me with the monster in his pants.
