Chapter 56

"Luciano—" I wanted to stop him, for his own sake. He was literally on his death bed.

"I need you, Red."

"Okay but you need to sleep!"

"No, I need to make love with you." He said, growling. Gosh. It seemed like he had the she-wolf and she went into heat after sniffing vervain when it was supposed to be me.

My stomach was aching with desire as well, I was in much worse state but I couldn't think about doing anything when Cordelia's words rang in my head.

His hands gripped my sides, dragging me towards him. His hid his face between my neck. I tried to resist but couldn't help the laughter that came out of me.

"Just a couple days," I whispered as I heard his growls lowering down along with his racing heartbeat. He was really trying to control. "Till you get better." I patted on his shoulder and he sighed.

"Fine but you can't move till I fall asleep." He shifted all his weight over me, our bodies touching and rubbing against each other.

"Okay, but could you move a little aside so I can at least breathe?" I asked, struggling with getting any air inside my lungs.

"Whatever. Breathe."

He moved aside but still held on to me as if that was going help with the urge of satisfying his wolf. To my surprise, it actually did. Luciano fell asleep quicker than I thought and while watching him sleeping, I did too.

When the morning came and I woke up, I turned around to wrap my arms around him but he was gone—the bed clear of him. Jolting up, I looked around the room and found him by the balcony, catching some fresh air and speaking to his Mother who was sitting along with him.

I leapt off the bed and went in the washroom to freshen myself up before going to them. While splattering water on my face, I noticed a love bite on my neck, it didn't ache and neither did I feel anything but it was big.

I had no idea when I had even gotten it because I did watch Luciano fall asleep before I did.

That bitch.

It took me a while ten minutes to get rid of the dress that I had been sleeping in, the same dress I was crowned Queen in as well. When the corset came off, I was finally able to breathe like a normal person.

I threw on a shirt and pair of pants before brushing my fingers through my hair and walking out of the washroom at last.

"Rise and shine, Queen." Luciano said, shifting his bright eyes on me. His face was full of happiness and cheer like he had never gotten sick.

"How do you feel?"

"Better." He took my hand and kissed it before pulling me towards the chair's outside in the balcony.

It was warm today, the sun was hitting directly at us and the sky was clear. I lowered down on the chair and placed my hands on the either side while staring at the sun. Why was it so bright? All I desired doing today was hitting the beach and getting a tan after all those cold days in England but I couldn't that, not when my husband was sick.

"Did you sleep well?" I asked Luciano.

He pulled the tea cup away from his lips and replied, "Yeah, I had a good sleep."

I swallowed hard and lifted my eyes too Jacqueline to let her know about last night. "There was something Cordelia told me before leaving. She sensed pain and sickness and she advised me that if he got sick again, we should go to a healer among the wolves."

"I know," Jacqueline breathed hard and placed her cup of tea on the table. "Vincent called a healer, the best one around here and he'll check on Luciano today itself. There should be no reason he should get sick as he's strong and has always been."

"I'm not!" Luciano exclaimed, placing himself in the conversation.

Everyone apart from him believed something was wrong, even I did.

"Yes, you are." I stated. "Is Ben here?"

"He'll come in a while."

"Oh, good!"

The healer—Randall came at our doorstep just at the same time Ben had arrived with Anna. When I saw the healer, I asked one of the house servants to take Fiona into her room as she was running around and being the wild child she was and I didn't want her to see or hear anything that would make her worry about Luciano.

We were just beginning to get closer, as a family.

Once everything was settled, we went back into our bedroom to get Luciano checked by Randall who I had seen at the castle quite a few times.

Healers were apparently known as the doctors of wolves, they healed those had been hurt or sick—which Luciano clearly was.

"Just tell my wife that there is nothing wrong with me," Luciano said to the healer while getting his eye checked.

Randall let out a chuckle before switching off his light and packing up. "Nothing seems wrong with you, my King but I'll have to take a look at your wolf as that might be the problem."

"All right," Luciano jumped off the bed. "Let's go downstairs then." He sounded completely assured that he was fine even after knowing that he was unconscious for more than an hour and was coughing blood.

At the healer's approval, we went downstairs and into the backyard of the house where Luciano shifted into his wolf and Randall checked up on him.

"What if the healer can't tell what's wrong?" I mumbled to Jacqueline after a couple minutes of getting nothing.

"Then we have to do something else."

"A spell?" My voice became lower.

She stared right into the backyard and nodded, "Yes."

We both were witches and we both could smell a sickness from far away. Luciano triggered back to human form and we turned our heads away for a minute. He came back inside the house while buttoning up his shirt.

"I told you nothing was wrong with me." He said to me.

I grabbed him arm and bought a halt to his cat walk. "Something is wrong with you and you know that," I mumbled. "I know you're in pain." We had a connection much stronger than anything else, we were mates and I could feel his pain, even if it was the slightest of it.

His face softened. "I'm not, Red."

"Damn it, Luciano, just tell me the truth."

"Fine!" He sighed, looking around. "I don't know what it is but it feels like my wolf is dying or I am." He finally spoke, even if he sounded rude.

"Since when?"

"Since yesterday, since the second you became the Queen. I didn't want to ruin your moment, Red." His face clouded with sadness and he cupped my face. "I don't know what it was but we can't be compatible if I take my place here. We can't rule two kingdom's together. It has never been done."

I took a sharp breath as my eyes widened with fright. He was feeling sick all along but he didn't tell me.

"This is bullshit." I shook my head in denial.

"Red is right. You two were destined together, not by me or anyone else but by the higher power. Just because it has never been done, doesn't mean it can't be. This was fated." Jacqueline slipped in. When she was done, she glanced at the healer. "Is there anything wrong with my son?" She asked him.

"Nothing at all." Randall replied.

"Then we are going to figure this out our way. Thank you for you time, Dr. Randall." She continued.

A servant showed him the way out of the house. Jacqueline took us into her room and began the spell that would the truth. Luciano sat on the ground just beside his Mother and she began chanting with her eyes shut closed tight. She tossed one his shirts into the fire burning and continued for a couple minutes more before she awakened.

Her eyes were bulging and the moment of truth came. "He isn't sick. Someone has made him sick—with magic." She broke the spell and got off the ground.

The second she did, Luciano started coughing, again. I darted to him and watched his blood escaping his lips.

I wrapped my arm around his shoulder and said, "It's Lisa." My teeth gritted against each other at the thought of that woman who couldn't leave me to be. "She told me I'd come begging for her. She is doing this."
