Chapter 60
Chapter 60
"Mommy was screaming." To my utter shock, Fiona was crying while latching onto my leg the second I freshened up and walked out of the room. I was equally surprised as everyone else.
"Oh, no, I wasn't screaming." I got back down on my knees and cupped her little face while wiping away her tears. She got everything wrong. "We—we were just watching the TV and the screams came from there. I'm completely fine." I tried to come up with a better response to the noises I had been making a moment earlier.
If I had any idea I was that loud, I would've had sex in the woods nearby instead of the room behind me. However, everything was sorted out quickly and Fiona stopped crying when I explained to her that the screams were coming merely from a woman in the TV.
After satisfying myself and Luciano, I gave the rest of the time to Fiona, taking her everywhere, baking some sweets, playing with her on the swings and watching the sunset.
When it became dark, I took Fiona back into the lakehouse and gave her something little to eat before putting her into sleep and calling it a day.
"Did you have fun?" I asked, patting the blanket on her.
"Yes."
I placed a peck on her forehead and continued, "Well, it's time to sleep now. I'll see you tomorrow morning and we will have a little more fun. Goodnight." I combed her hair away from her face and her eyes fluttered shut.
"Goodnight, mommy."
"Goodnight, my love." I repeated before walking out of the room. Fiona had her own room designed in the lakehouse by Vincent while we were in England and it was beautiful, just as the way she wanted.
It was hard to believe someone would take care of my daughter just as their own. I could never thank Vincent or Jacqueline enough. They had done a lot for me.
Switching off the little pink lights, I went out and sighed out of exhaustion before heading over to the backyard where a BBQ party was being held. The weather was mildly cold as it was night time and the moon was above us.
The grass felt great under my bare feet as I snaked around the backyard and wrapped my arms around Luciano who had his attention on the barbecue.
"I told you to not start without me." I lowered my gaze on the meat and pouted.
"Oops, I forgot," Luciano closed the BBQ stand and turned around. "Is she asleep?"
"Yes, give it ten minutes and then we can began partying!" I said with a grin spread wide over my face. I was fueled with alcohol and a little more of it was going to make my night perfect.
I walked away from Luciano and went to the fire burned by Ben. Sitting down, I grabbed a marshmallow and plopped it in my mouth. Anna looked like a mess wrapped up in a blanket.
With a snort, she threw a hand in the air, "Never drink while swimming." From what I had heard, she had puked quite a few times in the past hour and that itself was funny for me.
Ben was sober and looked like he had a great day. "Did you get any calls from Jacqueline?" I asked him as an unsettling feeling churned in my stomach. She hadn't called either of us all day long and I was dying to know about how far she was in her research.
"Nope. Nothing." He replied.
"Stop being concerned." Luciano grunted, lifting my face and kissing my lips.
"I'm being careful!" My voice became serious. Even though Luciano seemed perfectly fine, I doubted he was.
"You're obsessed with me, Red."
"And you know that." I blinked a couple times.
He bought a blanket and wrapped me up in it before sitting right beside me on the bench, arms curled around one and other while the fire kept us warm and cozy. The sounds of grasshoppers and night insects were loud in the silence. I reached for another marshmallow and chewed it down to vanquish the hunger inside my stomach since the BBQ wasn't done yet.
"Isn't it so unusual that Damon would do a spell to ruin my life all for Lisa?" I suddenly questioned and all eyes turned on me. "Something seems odd. When I met him at Lunaris for the first time, he didn't seem like the kind of person who'd harm another for no reason and at that time, Lisa didn't even know him!"
They were only a few times I had seen Lisa talk with Damon so the mating and the marriage sounded all weird to me. Why? What was the reason? They were never in love or anything to begin with.
"You don't know how quickly people can change, Red. Your own friend betrayed you. Trust me, I never expected this all from Lisa." Ben said, shaking his head. They both had a thing a while back but it was over long ago.
Anna cleared her throat and sat up straight, "I could tell she was a bitch from far. Should just kill her and end all your problems." She suggested, jealousy hitting the back of her voice.
"I can't kill her, Anna."
"Why not? She's useless and a bitch."
"Because she was my friend..." I trailed off, remembering the moment we had. We were so close, so good together and then everything changed.
"Let's not forget that she killed our grandmother and she's trying to kill Luciano now—for what reason? Because she couldn't pick up her ass and leave Gretel when she was being held hostage. That isn't your fault, it is her own mistakes." Anna replied.
I lowered my gaze on the fire, "It's not going to make a difference. The one who knows magic is Damon and he's the only one that can stop this."
I was questioning a couple of things. Clearly, Damon wasn't in love with Lisa and neither was she. They both were either trying to get back to me or something else but one of them was playing a game on another.
Why would Damon even want to get back to me? I didn't ever do anything to him apart from killing his Mother which was understandable. He, himself, despised Gretel.
"My fifth sense tells me I've seen that person somewhere." Luciano interrupted us.
I snapped my head at him, "Who? Damon?"
"Yes, I just don't know where." He was in his moment of thinking hard. His attention shot to Ben and he asked, "You have seen him somewhere, right? It was around a couple years back."
My ears perked, wanting to know more.
Ben sat up straight, "Oh, yes, yes, I know him!"
"From where?" I asked.
He scratched the back of his neck and shook his head a couple of times. "I think—"
Luciano cut him off and spoke behind me, "Ah, it's the same bastard that Charlotte cheated on me with. Fuck! They had a picture together and that's where I remember him from."
Hold up. What?
