Yeah, I finally submitted to y'all and made this a book. Hope you're happy, you sadistic fucks.
So I'm obviously a more experienced writer than I used to be, so more detail has been put into this. You'll find some changes in the story. Minor ones that hold little significance, of course.
The cover was created by the absolutely lovely RedFox_CoffeeAddict! Thank you <3
Okay, let us begin.
---
Peter bounced his way to the tower.
His day had been going swimmingly so far. Flash had been absent, so he didn't have to look over his shoulder every other second.
May was working tonight, which would usually make him sad, but that meant he got to spend the night with his mentor and the team.
Tonight was movie night at the tower, which always involved games and cuddles with his huge, dysfunctional family.
"Hey Friday!" He exclaimed the second he walked through the door. "What floor is Mr. Stark on?"
He walked into the elevator as Friday responded. He hummed his theme song as the elevator went up.
"You seem to be in a good mood." The AI observed. "I must warn you that your good mood might not last much longer."
"What?" Peter asked, furrowing his brow. "What do you mean by--?"
The elevator doors opened, and Peter stepped out. He shook his head, surely Friday didn't mean anything too serious by that. Maybe a prank was waiting for him?
He released a breath. Yeah, that had to be it. Clint was probably waiting for him with a candy cane or something.
He found that Tony wasn't in the common room, so he ventured to find him. "Mr. Stark?" He called.
Finally, he spotted Tony in the hallway. He was confused to find that Tony wasn't alone.
Tony turned to Peter, having heard his footsteps. "Oh...Mr. Parker..." Tony mumbled awkwardly. "What are you doing here...?"
"It's Tuesday?" Peter tilted his head in confusion, his smile dimming slightly. Mr. Parker? "I'm always here on Tuesday."
"Oh." Tony mumbled, looking awkwardly at the wall. If Peter didn't know any better, he'd say that Tony almost seemed disgusted by Peter's presence.
Peter realized they were stood in front of his door. As in Peter's guest room. The one that had a lot of Peter's stuff in it.
Peter was more than a little suprised when he found his previously mentioned stuff in a box on the floor.
"So..." Peter mumbled, confusion growing. "Who's this?" Peter asked, gesturing to the other person.
The boy looked to be around Peter's age. He held an air of darkness that Peter didn't quite understand. It wasn't like he was all too intimidating, Peter knew he could probably take him. He internally flushed, ashamed with himself for even thinking that.
Tony grinned, as if he had been waiting for Peter to ask that question. "This is Joshua!" He exclaimed, gesturing to the boy.
"Hello," Joshua held his hand out. Peter shook it.
Joshua's eyes were brown, Peter observed. A brown unlike any he had ever seen. In fact, as Peter stared into them, they seemed sort of reddish.
"Joshua O. Mohr. A pleasure to meet you." The boy introduced himself. Tony cringed slightly, which didn't go unnoticed by Peter.
"Peter B. Parker. The pleasure is all mine." Peter replied cautiously, still wondering who the boy was. He shot Tony a confused look, and was thoroughly surprised by the lack of warmth in his mentor's gaze.
"Joshua is my new intern. He will be replacing you." Tony said, putting on his 'billionare' voice.
"Wh-What?" Peter asked, eyes widening. "Replacing me?"
"Of course, I'll let you keep your suit. It would just take up space if I took it back." Tony crossed his arms, talking about it like he was discussing a house he wanted to sell.
Peter nearly missed the look on Joshua's face. It was subtle, not meant to be noticed, but Peter's enhanced eyesight caught it instantly.
The twitch of his lips, almost as if he found this situation amusing.
"I-I don't understand." Peter stammered, dread pooling up in his stomach. "Did I do something wrong?"
Tony laughed as if the answer was so obvious it was funny. "I left your stuff in that box. You can take it with you on your way out." Tony opted to say instead of answering Peter's question.
"B-But what about movie night?" Peter asked, grasping at straws.
"If I may interrupt," Joshua interjected, the amusement in his eyes much more apparent. "Mr. Stark is a very busy man. He has no time to listen to the incessant ramblings of a silly schoolboy."
"He has no plans for today, I triple checked it two days ago." Peter defended, still refusing to pick up that box.
"Let me rephrase," Joshua's eyes darkened considerably, his condescending smirk remaining ever present. "He doesn't want you here."
Peter looked at Tony incredulously. Tony just gave Joshua a proud look, as if he had just solved all of Tony's problems.
"You...you can't be serious." Peter laughed slightly in disbelief. It wasn't just that Tony was kicking him out, but that Peter knew Tony. He knew the type of people Tony would rather associate himself with.
Joshua was most certainly not one of these people.
"I'm dead serious, Mr. Parker." Tony told him. "As of today, Joshua will be taking your place in the tower."
Peter searched Tony's eyes, looking for a hint of humor. Looking for a sign that this was a prank, that they started the prank war before telling him.
All Peter saw was disgust in Tony's eyes.
"Okay," He took a deep breath, realizing this wasn't a joke. "If that's what you want." Peter picked up the box. "Goodbye, Mr. Stark."
"Leave." Tony sneered.
Peter swallowed. He turned around to leave. Before he left the hallway, he glanced back at Tony.
Tony had resumed his conversation with Joshua, and Peter found the warmth that wasn't present when he looked at him.
With a heavy sigh, he left the hallway.
The moment he entered the elevator, he could barely see past the tears in his eyes.
He had probably fucked up again. Just like he did with the boat. He probably fucked up so bad that there was no coming back from it.
He didn't even know what he did. He probably didn't even do anything, that Joshua punk probably set him up.
Peter scolded himself for how aggressively he thought of Joshua. Peter shouldn't be so quick to judge.
Still, that boy got on Peter's nerves.
Joshua was the type of person who made you feel natural anxiety by being in his presence. It just felt peculiar that Tony of all people would choose to keep that boy as company.
The elevator doors opened before he reached the bottom floor. Happy walked in. "Hey kid." Happy grunted. "What's with the box?"
Peter apparently looked frustrated, because Happy took one look at his face and instantly knew something was wrong. "Are you okay?" Happy asked.
Peter opened his mouth to respond, but suddenly found he couldn't speak over the lump in his throat.
Why was Tony doing this? What had Peter done wrong?
He really was a jinx, huh? Maybe Tony didn't wanna become another tombstone.
"Pete?" Happy asked. "Are you okay?" He repeated.
Peter felt his bottom lip wobble. "Fuck." He choked out, shifting so that he was holding the box in one hand, and was using the other to wipe away the tears that suddenly spilled over.
"Hey, hey," Happy spoke gently, and Peter felt genuinely pathetic. "What's wrong?"
Peter released something between a sob and a laugh. "He fired me." Peter said, shrugging. He took the box with two hands again, not even caring about the tears anymore.
"What? I never heard about this." Happy mumbled. "He has to come to me before he fires anyone. Are you sure he--?"
"His exact words were 'He will be replacing you'. I think that sounds a lot like getting fired." Peter spat, glaring at the floor.
They reached the bottom floor, and Peter realized he would never ride in this elevator again. "Goodbye, Happy." He sighed, looking ahead, his expression carefully neutral.
"I'll see if I can talk to him, figure out what he was thinking." Happy promised. Peter nodded, thankful for such an amazing person.
"Thanks, Happy. I appreciate it." Peter gave Happy a weary smile. He continued walking out the door. He paused. "Goodbye, Friday."
"Goodbye, Underoos." Friday said. "I hope to see you again."
Peter released a bitter chuckle, before fully walking out the door.
---
Happy tapped his foot impatiently as the elevator went up. Happy felt suspicious. Firing Peter was something that seemed extremely out of character for the billionaire. Hell, Happy could barely get the man to shut up about that kid.
The elevator doors opened, and Happy found Tony sitting on the couch, staring at the wall blankly.
"Tony?" Happy asked. Tony blinked, then looked at Happy.
"Oh, Happy, what's up?" Tony asked.
"Why did you fire Peter?" Happy went straight to the point. There was no use beating around the bush.
"He did what?!" Happy heard. He looked to his right, and spotted the Avengers walking in. The one who had yelled was Clint.
"Tones, you fired Peter?!" Clint asked. "Why?!"
"Why?" Tony scoffed. "The kid was no match for Joshua's talent. Mr. Parker was useless, as well as foolish." Tony said.
"B-But you loved Peter!" Bucky protested, stepping foward. "You loved him like a son!"
"Like a son? That little brat? Please, don't make me laugh." Tony rolled his eyes.
"Something is up." Happy said, crossing his arms. "You would never turn your back on Peter, especially for some random pest you just met."
In a second, Tony was off the couch and glaring right at Happy. "You watch your tongue." Tony spat venomously.
"What? Did I strike a nerve?" Happy asked sarcastically, intrigued by Tony's reaction.
"Happy..." Natasha warned, glancing between the two of then cautiously.
"Joshua is twice the person that runt could ever hope to be." Tony growled, walking towards Happy.
"Tony, you need to calm down--" Steve began, trying to put the billionaire at ease.
"So you're just going to ignore everything you and Peter have been through?! You're just going to kick him to the curb like everyone else did?!" Happy argued, temper flaring up.
"Happy, you too." Steve sighed. "While I don't understand Tony's decision, nor do I agree with it," He spit out bitterly, refusing to look at Tony. "Arguing will get us nowhere."
"You're siding with him!" Tony roared, whirling around to glare at Steve. "Why am I not suprised?! Steve fucking Rogers always has to disagree with me!"
"I do disagree with you Tony, this is outrageous." Steve snapped. "But arguing will solve nothing."
"How long have you even known the kid?!" Happy asked, getting Tony's attention once more. "A couple of days?!"
Tony didn't respond, just glared at Happy.
"You're going to abandon a kid you've known for years for a kid you've known for a couple of days?! Do you realize how ridiculous that sounds?!" Happy yelled.
"Happy, what did I just say--"
"Can it, Rogers! I wanna hear the bullshit that's coming out of this man's mouth!" Tony spat, crossing his arms.
"You've spent more time with Peter! He's been your number one supporter for years, and you're going to throw all that away for some stupid kid?!"
"Don't fucking call him that, Happy." Tony snarled.
"Peter was heartbroken when I saw him!" Happy continued. "How could you do that?! He's just a kid! Do you know how much this will affect him?! Why would you kick Peter to the curb for some--some--" Happy struggled to pinpoint the exact word he wanted to use. "Some stupid little shit!" He shouted finally.
"What did you just call him?!" Tony yelled, grabbing Happy by the collar. "Say that again! I dare you!"
Happy couldn't find his friend in that man's eyes. Happy was angry, he was furious. But at the same time he felt concern for the billionaire. What had happened to his friend? Who the hell was standing in front of him?
Happy's anger overwhelmed him as he found his answer. The man standing in front of him was the man who abandoned Peter Parker for some kid he just met. The man in front of him was a child, a man who didn't even contemplate letting them share the position.
"Some stupid. Little. Shit." Happy snarled. Tony eyes lit up with rage, and he shoved Happy away from him.
"Get out!" Tony screamed. "Get the hell out! You're fired!"
"What?!" Happy exclaimed, anger morphing into shock. "You can't fire me!"
"Get the fuck out! Now!" Tony shoved Happy again.
"Tony!" Natasha yelled. "This is insane!"
"Bite your tongue, I'll deal with you all in a second." Tony growled. Natasha shot Tony a dangerous look, before giving Happy an apologetic one.
"Are you serious right now?!" Happy exclaimed, anger coming back to him. "You're acting like a child!"
"Get. Out." Tony spat, more angry than Happy had ever seen him.
Happy caught a glimpse of a boy with blonde hair watching from behind the Avengers. The boy shot him a smirk, and waved goodbye.
Joshua.
Happy scowled before ripping off his badge and throwing it at Tony. "Take it! See if I care!"
"What's going on out here?" Pepper asked, walking into the room.
"Your fiance lost two employees today." Wanda spat, crossing her arms.
Happy glanced at Pepper, before turning to leave. "I hope we never meet again, Anthony Stark." Happy hissed, marching to the elevator.
"Believe me, the feeling is mutual." Tony sneered.
As the elevator doors closed, Happy saw Tony turn to yell at the Avengers.

Peter had asked MJ and Ned to hang out with him at his apartment. They didn't ask why, but they could tell something was wrong. He wasn't sure how they always knew, it was something he just silently appreciated. A knock broke him out of his thoughts, he got up and opened the door.
"I got churros." Ned said, holding up a bag. MJ handed him a book.
"I like to read that whenever I get upset. I-I just thought that maybe it could help you too." MJ shrugged, a light pink dusting her cheeks.
"Now," Ned began, walking inside with MJ behind him. He sat down on Peter's couch, placing the churros on the coffee table. "Do you wanna talk about it?" Peter sat down next to him, sighing heavily.
"What's wrong?" MJ asked, sitting on the other side of Peter. Peter grimaced, shaking his head.
"It's stupid. I'm being dramatic." Peter grumbled. "Can we just hang out? I...don't wanna spend tonight alone."
MJ and Ned exchanged glances. Peter didn't notice, glaring at the floor like it had personally offended him.
"Weren't you supposed to spend the night at the tower?" MJ asked gently.
"Yeah," Peter mumbled, putting the book on the coffee table. He grabbed the remote and switched the TV on.
MJ and Ned watched him carefully. It was rare for Peter not to open up to them, so they weren't quite sure how to approach the situation.
Peter out on some random movie, before grabbing a churro. Ned and MJ hesitantly grabbed their own, eyes still fixed on Peter.
MJ noticed it first. The way his hands shook slightly as he held the churro, the way his eyes weren't focused on the movie he was watching. "Peter--"
"Why does everyone leave me?" Peter asked numbly, still staring at the TV. MJ and Ned didn't have the answer to that question. "Am I that terrible? First it was my parents, and then my uncle, and now--" He cursed, blinking rapidly to avoid crying.
"What happened?" Ned asked.
"I got fired." Peter shrugged, his voice flat. "Mr. Stark didn't want me anymore. Guess Flash was right, I'm destined to be alone."
"...you have us?" Ned placed a hand on Peter's shoulder. "And May, and the Avengers--"
"I wonder if they got a say in it." Peter mumbled. "God, I hope not." He rubbed a tired hand over his face. "I need a new job now. What am I going to do?" Peter sighed. "Rent is due next week, and we were relying on my paycheck to pay it."
"I can help out," MJ offered. "I've saved up my allowance, I can lend you some money?"
"I couldn't ask that of you." Peter finally looked at her, giving her a weak smile. "Don't worry about me, I'll figure it out."
"Are you sure?" MJ asked. Peter silently nodded, looking at the TV again.
"Can we talk about something else? I don't want tonight to be all gloomy and depressing." Peter snorted.
"A Disney marathon it is." Ned said, pulling some DVDs out of the backpack Peter hadn't realized he was wearing. "I felt like you might need it."
"Thanks, Ned." Peter smiled. "I already feel a little better." Ned ruffled Peter's hair.
"Your guy in the chair has always got your back!" Ned winked. "Now, which one do you want first?"
"I prefer not to watch movies where the women are utterly helpless and need a man to save them." MJ scoffed. Ned nodded.
"Mulan it is, then."
A/N:
You'll notice that Happy didn't quit in this one, and was instead fired. I plan to explore Happy's character a bit more in this one than the original. I'll be honest, I'm not really a fan of the original Replaced.
Writing Spiderman again is a strange feeling, but I hope I pulled it off okay.
