the stand

"who stands before me? who defies my sacred words, that none shall walk upon this sacred ground?"
"this is not your sacred ground. it is the land of my people. you have come here uninvited."
"i need not an invitation. all that stands before me is mine and mine for the taking."
"it is land that was given. given by you."
"and as i have given, i can take away."
"no. you gave your word."
"my word? i laugh at the folly of your thinking. you know who i am. you know what i am. and still you think my word is true."
"laugh at me, if you wish, but i still believe there is some good and truth within you."
"you have grown soft and trusting. you, of all should know of what i am and of what i am capable."
"i thought for me, that perhaps, just perhaps, you would find some humanity."
"humanity? i am not human. no more than you are."
"but i have become so. i believe in these people and as such, i will defend them."
"you would stand against me?"
"if that is what it takes."
"then you will die. it will sorrow me so, but surely, you will die."
"then i will die believing in something."
"then so be it, daughter."
