Chapter Two
Edie was the first to arrive. Then Oliver, then Rebecca.
When Rebecca arrived, she said, "Alright. I packed what you told me to pack, but what's it for?"
Shira shook her head, signaling to be quiet. Then she called, louder that needed, "Come on! I wanna show you something!"
Then she raced up the stairs.
Everyone sat on her floor. Iris and Talia were the last to join, despite them already being in the house. Shira sighed.
"I have bad news. My parents are sending me to Virginia."
The words were met by a chorus of unhappy murmurs. Shira raised her hand, and all fell silent.
"So I have come up with a plan. I am running away."
More murmurs.
"Now, I am not-I repeat, NOT,-forcing any of you to come. If you choose not to come, speak now."
Silence. Iris looked anxious. Edie's eyes shone with excitement. Then Edie said, "I'm coming."
Everyone nodded, and a few 'So am I's were heard.
"Are you sure? This is big. I know each and every one of us has spoken of running away. I heard you. But this isn't-this isn't, like, paradise or something. We're going to New York City. You could get lost. I have a firm plan." Shira warned.
"We're with you. Nothing can change that." said Iris. More nods. Rebecca said, "We've already lost Benjamin. We won't lose you, too."
Shira glanced down sheepishly. "So, about that...there's a reason I'm taking you to NYC."
Edie's eyes lit up. "You think we'll see him?"
Shira shook her head warningly. "Not promising anything. Do you have your stuff? Good. Tonight...we escape."
