Chapter 22

"Cannon ball!" I take off running from the back door and throw my towel on one of the lounge chairs. I ignore the cold air on my skin.

All the other girls scatter from the middle of the pool to get out of my way. I run to the pool and jump in the air, bringing my legs up to my chest. I wrap my arms around them and hold my breath. When I hit the water, I sink to the bottom and open my eyes. I kick up off the bottom to resurface.

"My scores?" I look at all of the girls. I have finally learned all of their names.

"Seven." Keri Arrindell says first. She has thick, curly dark brown hair that stops a few inches below her shoulders. Her eyes are a pretty dark brown color. She is twenty three.

"Nine." Annastasia Baker grins at me. Annastasia is only twenty one and has tried out for the X Factor two years ago. She has short light brown hair and brown eyes.

"I'll give you a seven." Treyc Cohen decides. She is twenty six years old and the oldest out of all of us. Treyc has long dark brown hair, dark skin, and dark brown eyes.

"Nine." Gamu Nhengu adds her opinion. She has extremely curly dark brown almost black hair that is a few inches above her shoulders. Gamu is only eighteen.

"Seven point five." Raquel Thomas says next. Raquel has an unique voice from what I've been told. She also has dark brown hair, olive skin, and brown eyes. She is a few years older than Cher and I.

"Eight." Kate Waissel tells me. Kate is the only one in the household with blonde hair. Her hair is rather short, but it is very curly. Kate's eyes are a blueish color and she is twenty four.

"Nine point three." Rebecca Ferguson smiles from the side of the pool. She is only twenty three and has the common dark brown hair. Out of all the girls besides Cher, we are the closest.

"One point two." Cher laughs.

"Thanks Cher." I reply, sarcastically.

"Your welcome." She leans against the pool wall. "It's going to suck to get out of this water."

"Maybe if we run really fast we won't feel the cold." Kate suggests.

"It was easy to get in." Treyc says, barely keeping her head above water to stay warm. "It's going to be terrible to get out."

They aren't kidding either. The only reason we got in the pool is because it is heated. We didn't think about how we would get out. It is fifty degrees out and the pool is a lovely eighty five degrees. We are going to have to run out of the pool, grab our towels, then run upstairs without sliding across the floor to our bedrooms. I am not looking forward to this.

"I'll tell you what." I casually swim to the stairs. "I'll go first and tell you how it feels." I run up the stairs to my towel on the lounge chair.

The ice cold air hits my bare wet skin causing goosebumps to appear on my skin. I wrap my towel around my body and run towards the door. I feel the girls eyes staring at me from behind. I swing the door open and run against the wooden floor.

"Carter?" Cheryl calls my name.

I spin around on the floor to look at her. My feet slip on the wooden floor and I feel myself fall backwards. I land on my arse first and then my back. I lay still for a few seconds then I burst out laughing. I clutch my towel tightly in my hands and roll over on my side.

Cheryl is standing in the doorway of the kitchen. "Are you okay?" She rushes forward.

"Why am I the most unluckiest person ever?" I ask myself out loud.

"You're not hurt, are you?" Cheryl bends over.

I shake my head and stand up. "I'm okay. Gosh that was embarrassing!" I chuckle.

"Aren't you freezing?" Cheryl straights back up.

"A little. I was running to go take a shower." I shake my head. "That wasn't a good idea."

"I'll clean the water up. Go take a shower before you get sick." Cheryl points at the stairs.

"Thanks Cheryl." I smile at her.

I walk up the stairs slowly, not wanting to fall down them. I jog down the long hallway to the last door. I don't think I will get sick. I don't want to jinx myself, though. I am quite unlucky.

I grab a set of pajamas and walk in the bathroom, shutting the bathroom door behind me. I toss my wet towel in the hamper and step right in the shower. I turn the knob on for the hot water and instantly relax. I adjust the water to a nice hot temperature. I definitely needed this.

Fifteen minutes later, I step out of the shower feeling refreshed. I change into a pair of pajama pants that have penguins on them. I match a black tank top with it. I throw my hair up in a messy bun on the top of my head. A few pieces of hair hang down around my face. I put on a pair of black socks on to keep my feet warm on the cold wooden floor. I look good enough if a camera randomly shows up.

I make my way down the hallway to see that the girls have come back inside. I bet they didn't slip and fall in front of Cheryl. I really hope there weren't any cameras nearby when that happened. That was really embarrassing.

"Hey, Carter!" Rebecca calls me from her bedroom.

I stop walking and peek in her bedroom. "Yeah?"

"Did I see you fall when you ran inside?" She asks, drying her hair with a towel.

I hit my face with my hand. "I was hoping Cheryl only saw me fall."

"I saw you run inside and then you slipped and fell on your back. Are you okay?" Rebecca tosses the towel in their hamper.

"Yeah. I actually didn't get hurt. I figured with my bad luck I would sprain my ankle or something." I step in her bedroom. "Who are you sharing with?"

"Me." Keri strolls out of their bathroom.

My stomach growls loudly and we all burst out laughing. "Well, I need to get some food in my belly." I tell them.

"What are we eating for dinner?" Rebecca pulls on a pair of black slippers on.

"Can you cook?" I ask, heading for the stairs with them behind me.

"I can make make pasta pretty well." Keri suggests.

"Cheryl took care of dinner." Cher walks with us down the stairs. "She had a caterer come."

I run to the kitchen. "Food!" I shout when I see the counters covered with various foods. I grab a plate and start piling food on it.

"Save some for us!" Rebecca laughs when she sees my plate.

"I'm hungry." I shrug. "Where do you guys want to eat?"

"Pick a spot." Cher grabs her own plate.

I carry my plate to the living room. White couches. Not a good idea. It's too cold outside. I walk back to the main part of the house and sit down on the wooden floor. This way I can't spill anything or ruin any furniture. That would just be my lucky. I place my plate on the floor and start eating. I bet Niall would be jealous of me right now.

"Why are you on the floor?" Cher looks down at me.

"I don't want to ruin anything." I reply, shoving some white rice in my mouth. Sometimes I wish I was Chinese, so I could eat their food all the time.

Cher, Rebecca, and Keri sit down on the floor, making a small circle or a deformed square. I don't know where any of the other girls are. I get the feeling that they don't like us so much. Oh well.

"So, what's going on between you and Louis?" Rebecca asks, pointing her fork at me.

"Nothing! We're just good friends!" I blush.

"You're blushing!" Cher pokes my cheek.

I slap her hand away. "It's hot in here."

"Awh! You like him!" Rebecca teases.

"No. We are just best friends. Louis doesn't like me like that." I shake my head and continue eating.

"Do you like him like that?" Keri raises an eyebrow.

"I like him as a friend." I reply.

"That's not what I meant." Keri smirks. "Do you like Louis Tomlinson more than a friend?"

"In other words, do you want to date him?" Cher says.

I look at them not saying anything. Why are they doing this to me? It's just not nice. I wouldn't be quizzing them on a guy they like. Maybe I should just tell them I like him. No, they might try to get us together. That would be embarrassing. Cher has already promised to do that. I don't need anyone else helping her.

"You do!" Rebecca grins. "That's so cute!"

"No, I don't." I cover my cheeks with my hands to cover my blush.

Rebecca claps her hands excitedly. "We're going to help you two get together!"

"What?! No!" I shout. I knew this would happen.

"Why not? You two would be perfect for each other!" Cher comments.

"Louis doesn't like me like that." I frown at my almost empty plate.

"I bet he does." Cher exchanges a look with Keri and Rebecca.

"Only one way to find out." Rebecca says to Cher who nods her head.

What's going on here? I don't like this silent communication thing. I don't know what they are thinking of. This cannot be good.

"Hi, Louis!" Cher waves to the camera on my laptop.

Rebecca and Keri are sitting next to me on my bed to keep me from stopping Cher. They decided to web chat with Louis and tell him that I'm sleeping, while Cher asks him of he likes me. I don't think their plan will work. If I was Louis and Cher asked me, I wouldn't tell her. Louis is unpredictable, though.

"Why do you have Carter's laptop?" Louis's voice comes from my laptop speakers.

"Carter is sleeping and I need to ask you a question." Cher lays on her stomach on her bed.

"So, you take her computer?" Louis asks.

"Pretty much, yeah." Cher laughs.

"What do you want to ask me?" Louis asks her.

Cher smirks. "Do you fancy Carter?"

Silence. That's it. Louis doesn't say anything. Cher isn't saying anything, besides staring at the computer screen, waiting for an answer. I stare at the back of my laptop. Why isn't he saying anything?!

"Well?" Cher asks.

"Does she like me?" Louis asks instead of answering the question.

Cher shakes her head at him. "That's not what I asked."

"But it's what I'm asking." Louis replies.

Cher narrows her eyes, obviously getting annoyed. "Okay, you're going to make me do this. Remember that deal we made. Well, it is officially the first of the month. Today, I want you to tell me if you like Carter more than a friend."

Smart girl. I wouldn't have thought of doing that to get him to answer. Cher smirks at Louis. Now he has to answer. Good. I want to know his answer. What if he doesn't like me? Then I'll just get over him. If I can.

"I like her as a best friend." Louis answers.

I fall backwards on my bed. He's not going to give us a proper answer.

"Louis Tomlinson, answer the question!" Cher snaps.

"Yes. I like Carter more than a friend."

I shoot up from my bed and stare at Cher with wide eyes. Did he? Louis likes me more than a friend. He really said that? I start bouncing on my bed with a huge grin on my face.

"I know." Cher says. "Now that this is over. I need to go to bed. I'm really tired. Oh, and don't tell Carter about this whole thing."

"Just don't tell her that I fancy her." Louis comments.

"Night Louis." Cher shuts the computer. "I told you so!" She points her finger at me.

"He likes me!" I stand up and hug Cher. "Louis likes me! Ahhh!" I scream.

Maybe I'm not so unlucky.

Author's Note:

Tell me what you think!

I have become addicted to Big Time Rush's new song and I never listen to them. Their song is really good, though.
