Chapter 37
Last night's show went really well. No one messed up in the group performance. Hannah made sure that I wore flats with my outfit. She didn't want me to wear heels and have me twist my ankle again.
I was the first one to start the song Telephone by Lady Gaga. I was extremely nervous at first then I got over it. Cher's part was my absolute favorite. She really brought her personality into it. Everyone sounded amazing. My voice sounded a little nasally because I caught a cold because of Louis pushing me in the pool.
Cheryl tried to talk me out of performing last night. She said that they would just show the video of me recording in the studio, but I didn't want to risk it. The video only showed me in a recording booth. That's it. I wasn't moving around or anything. I decided on performing. I felt like I was going to die the entire time. I pretend like I felt amazing, though. I didn't want anyone to know that I was sick.
My plan almost worked until Cheryl said that I did a good job of performing and not acting like I was sick. That comment made all of the judges talk about how I refused to not perform tonight. I didn't want the audience to know. I was afraid they would feel bad for me and give me sympathy. I didn't want that.
After the show was over, everyone went home. I ended up passing out on the couch. I was so exhausted. Both of the performances tired me out. I slept all day today. I think my cold is getting worse. I've felt even worse then I did yesterday. I wish I could just stay at the house while everyone goes off to the live show, but I can't. I had to be there.
The first three people to be safe were Matt, Rebecca, and Mary. Cher, Treyc, and Pajie were safe next. Storm is in the bottom three along with Belle Amie. There is one last person that belongs in the bottom three. Scary thing is, there are only three of us left. It's John, Diva Fever, and me. One of us is in the bottom three.
The three of us are waiting for the show to come back from commercial. The two workers standing next to us will then usher us out on the stage. That is when we will find out our fate. I realized this is the second time of me being in the bottom of who will be the last in the bottom three. It's quite nerve wracking. I have this feeling that I'm in the bottom three. If I wasn't sick then I could have done a better job.
"Good luck, Carter." Jo hugs me.
"Thanks. You too." I hug him back.
"Okay. They are ready for you. We go live in one minute." The worker on my left announces.
They motion for the four of us to walk out on the stage. I walk to the middle of the stage where Dermot is standing. He winks at me when I stand on the right of Diva Fever. John is on the left side of them. Dermot walks up to us and steps in the middle next to me.
This is it.
"Welcome back to the live results show of the X Factor!" Dermot says into his microphone. "Here with me, I have the last three that have not been told if they are safe or not. One of them will be in the bottom three with Belle Amie and Storm Lee."
I feel an itching feeling in the back of my throat. Crap. I need to cough. I don't want to cough while I'm live on the show, though. Maybe I can just hold it. I won't have to talk if I'm safe. If I'm not safe then I will have to say something about being in the bottom three.
"John, please step forward." Dermot nods to him.
Oh no. Don't tell me that John is in the bottom three. He's really nice. We don't really talk much, but I know that he is a good person.
"You are safe." Dermot says after a few seconds.
A huge smile spreads out on John's face. He hugs Diva Fever and me quickly before walking off stage. I'm in the bottom three. I just know it. That's why Dermot is standing in between Diva Fever and me. He knew that John would be safe.
"The person in the bottom three is..." Dermot stops talking and waits a few minutes.
Why does he always do this? It makes everything so suspenseful. Dermot may only wait a few minutes, but it feels like hours when you are waiting to hear what he is going to say. The show does it on purpose. I absolutely hate this. I wish he would just say who it was.
"Diva Fever."
I turn to face them. I can't believe it. I thought I would end up in the bottom three. Craig envelops me in a hug. I feel so bad for them. I feel bad for all three of them. They are such talented singers. They don't deserve to be in the bottom three. None of us do.
"In just a few moments, Belle Amie will be performing their song." Dermot tells the audience and camera.
I walk off the stage, allowing Dermot to question Jo and Craig about being in the bottom three. Hannah is waiting for me by the stage. I throw my arms around her neck and hug her.
"Congratulations." Hannah hugs me back.
"I was so worried that I wasn't going to make it." I croak. I let go of her and cough.
Hannah sighs and places her hand on my forehead. "You're burning up!" She exclaims.
"That would explain why I feel like crap." I slump my shoulders.
I'm backstage now. I don't have to pretend that I'm not sick. Everyone here knows that I'm sick. I don't care if they see me like this. Hannah grabs my wrist and leads me to my dressing room. I follow her closely. I don't see anyone else on our way there. They must all be in their own dressing rooms.
Hannah gently pushes me in the dressing room. "Lay down while I go find a thermometer to take your temperature."
I collapse on the black couch. "Why is it so cold in here?"
"It's not cold in here. You're cold because you have a fever. I'll be right back." Hannah leaves the dressing room.
I kick off my high top converse and slide out of my huge poofy neon green skirt. I set it on the table with my converse. I have about thirty minutes until the end of the show. I'm going to relax. I pull shirt off and grab an oversized long sleeved shirt from my bag. I slip on my soffee shorts over my black leggings.
I fall back on the couch. I think I'll just rest my eyes. That's what Riley would call it when he was in school and he would fall asleep. He would always claim that he was resting his eyes. I think I'll do that now.

A sharp object pokes me in my ribs. My eyes fly open when I feel the pain. Aiden is holding me in his arms while walking through the front door of the X Factor house. The door knob was what poked me in my ribs.
"Sorry, Carter. Didn't mean to wake you." Aiden apologizes.
"What happened?" I rub my eyes and yawn.
"You fell asleep in your dressing room. Hannah told the producers that you had a fever and they let you sleep through the end of the show." Aiden carries me through the house.
"Who went home?" I rest my head on his shoulder.
Aiden smiles sadly. "Diva Fever."
I missed their goodbyes. I didn't get to say goodbye to say goodbye to Craig or Jo. They were so much fun to hang out with. Now I won't see them again. They could have woken me up to say goodbye.
"They said that they would miss you a lot." Aiden tells me.
"I wish I could have said goodbye." I whisper, feeling my eyes start to water. "You can set me down in the kitchen. I'm thirsty."
Aiden brings me to the kitchen and sets me on my feet. I clutch my head when I feel it start to pound. Now I have a headache. I must still have a fever. I walk over to the fridge and grab a water.
Louis and Harry stroll into the kitchen together. Harry grins at me and waves. I slowly wave back at him. Louis marches right past me with an angry expression on his face. I turn to Harry confused. Why does Louis look so mad?
"Louis, are you okay?" I take a step towards him.
"As if you don't know." Louis snaps, glaring at me.
I flinch away from him, taken aback by his harsh tone. "What are you talking about?"
"Did you think that I wouldn't guess your plan?" Louis crosses his arms.
"What plan?"
"Don't play dumb. I figured out your plan on how to win. You are jumping from guy to guy to make all of them feel bad about you and let you win." Louis glares at me with hard, cold eyes.
"What are you talking about? I don't have a plan. I would never do that." I defend myself.
"Are you getting mad because I figured you out?" Louis pushes past me.
I spin around to face him. "What are you talking about?! I don't have a plan to win the X Factor. I don't know where you are getting these weird ideas from!"
"Guess what? Your plan won't work. You need to have more than just good looks to win this competition." Louis stalks away from the kitchen.
I turn to look at Aiden and Harry. "What is wrong with him?!"
Harry shakes his head. "I have no idea. He seemed off every since Jo and Craig left."
"Why does he think that I have this plan on winning the competition? Does he think I'm a whore or something?" I start to tear up.
Does Louis honestly think I'm that kind of person? He thinks that I'm jumping from guy to guy to win this competition. Did Craig or Jo say something to Louis to make him think like this?
"I'm going to figure out what started this." I head after Louis.
"Let him cool off first." Aiden chases after me.
I find Louis sitting on the couch in the living room. I walk right up to him and block his view to the tv. "Did I do something to make you mad at me?"
Louis scowls at me. "Did you even like me? Or was I just another one of your toys?"
"Of course I liked you!" I yell at him, ignoring the pain in my throat. "I've never had any toys in this house. I don't know what kind of person you think I am, but I would never do anything like that!"
Louis stands up from the couch. "How would any of us know that? You've been lying since day one!"
"What have I been lying about?! I've lied about nothing!" I scream at him.
"On your audition you said that you thought you were a terrible singer! First lie! Then you had all the judges feeling sorry for you because you made them feel bad for you. Now you've been playing all the guys in the house! First Harry, then Matt, then Aiden and me!"
"That's because I thought I was a terrible singer! I have my reasons of why I thought that. I have never played any of you! I'm not that kind of person!" I try not to think about my dad.
Louis shakes his head as if he doesn't believe me. "Is this part of your plan? Saying that you have a reason that you thought you were a terrible singer? I bet you are lying about that to!"
I step forward and slap Louis as hard as possible. "You know nothing about my life." I push away from him and walk towards the stairs. I ignore everyone that was watching us fight. I stop on the first step and look back at Louis. "You know, I actually did like you. I think everyone in the house knew I did. I'm glad we had this fight now. I wouldn't want to date a guy who thought all of this about me. It's good to know what my own best friend thinks about me. Don't ever talk to me again."
I continue up the stairs to my room. I can't believe this. What has gotten into Louis? I have never seen this side of him. I thought he was a good person and knew how to have a good time. Now he has turned into some guy that I don't even know. Is this who he really is?
I burst through my room and collapse on my bed in tears. What kind of best friend says that to their best friend? Does he think I'm a slut? How dare he think that I was lying at my audition. He doesn't know anything about my past. He has no right to judge me.
Harry sneaks in and pulls me in his arms. "I have no idea what just happened down there."
"What did I do to make him think of all of this about me?" I cry into his chest.
"You didn't do anything." Harry rubs my back. "I've never seen Louis like that. I heard him say that Craig said something to him about you."
"What? Why would Craig say something like this?" I wipe my eyes. "We were good friends."
"I don't know, love." Harry tells me.

Author's Note:
Well, there's a twist on things, eh? Did any of you expect something like this?
So, I just want to say that I'm sorry that I couldn't upload sooner. My teachers have been giving me a ton of homework. It's insane. I'm trying to update more. I hate to say this, but I most likely won't update this weekend. I am insanely busy.
Question...What do you think is up with Louis? Do you think he has always felt like this? Did Craig say something to him to make him like this?
So, yeah!
