//Chapter Ten//
"Come talk to me in shades of blue"-Lance

Lance decided he'd be with Keith whenever he took his pills. This was a huge reassurance to Keith, who seemed to stick close to lance, almost like a leech, each time he was with him. Lance himself found this humorous, but decided not to say anything in case it bugged Keith, or made him think he wasnt okay with it.
Keith gulped down his pills, a bit shaky from fear, and looked at Lance with uncertain eyes, "So you're sure that was the right amount?" He asked as Lance reached out his hands and gently rested them on Keith's shoulders. Lance only grinned, "I promise, that was the right amount. I made sure, and asked the nurses just to be sure. Besides, this is the second time im helping you, im sure we've got it man."
Truth was, Keith was forever grateful that Lance agreed to do this. Keith found comfort in the tan boy's eyes that seemed to dim his nerves and pulse calmness through his body. It was more powerful than any feeling he'd known, and he often lost himself in the feeling. In lance's eyes.
Lance chuckled, and hooked his arm around Keith's, then gave a wide grin as his eyes landed on the window, "Hey, Keith! Your little bird friend is back!"
Keith turned quickly to the window, noticing it's somewhat white tint, that humored the sense of winter arriving sooner than they expected. The Blue Jay stood there, it's feet leaving small tapping noises that delighted the two boys and gave them small smiles. Keith gently helped Lance sit on his bed, before making his way over to the window, examining the bird.
It seemed.. different. More fragile. It's soft eyes seemed to be duller than normal, and it's once brilliantly blue feathers seemed to be dusted and gray. This made Keith uneasy, and left a small knot in his throat.
"Hey lance, i think the jay's sick" Keith said in a hushed voice, careful not to startle it. However, Lance gave a small gasp and clumsily made his way over to the window, which made Keitj nervous it would fly off. To his surprise, it didnt, and he let himself relax a bit as Lance's eyes ran over the small bird, sitting down on the chair they set up before.
"Aww.. poor birdie. Maybe we can help it?" Lance asked, and went to open the window, but Keith caught Lance's hands, "I wouldnt do that. If we let a sick bird in, who knows what'll happen. Besides, we dont have anything to help.. shouldn't the bird be migrating by now?"
"Do Jay's even migrate?" Lance asked, curling up his hand and putting it to his chin, his eyes glimmering in thought, his brows contorting inwards a little. Keith shrugged and turned hid attention back to the bird, slightly fearful as he remembered their conversation about if it was one of his parents.
Lance noticed Keith's unease, and gave a small sigh, "Well, if we cant help it, lets not stare at it and make it uncomfortable. That would he rude" he tried to joke, to make Keith laugh. This time it didnt work, and lance found a spot on the ground, giving it a small scrape with hid foot and putting his hands awkwardly on his hips.
Before Lance could say another word, The door sounded, and the two boys turned to see Mrs. Bird walked in. She seemed to look really nervous, and held some papers that Keith seemed to recognize as the ones she got nervous about before. This sent a shiver down Keith's spine, but he waved and smiled anyways, "Hey, Mrs. Bird"
She only gave a small smile, walking over to the table and setting the papers down, "Lance, you've got your appointment today" she spoke, her voice going a bit quiet at "appointment". Keith hadnt heard if any appointment, and looked to lance in confusion, only to catch his breath to see lance's confused eyes. He realized Lance hadnt heard of it, either.
"Appointment? You mean my rehab?" Lance asked with a small chuckle, his hand reaching for the back of his neck. Mrs. Bird shook her head, "No, appointment. Im sorry i didnt let you know till last minute. I'll be taking you down now, dont worry" she looked up from the table and gave a seemingly forced smile to the cuban boy.
Keith hooked his arm with Lance's, his eyes serious, "Im coming too then" he noted. He expected immediate rejection, but Mrs. Bird only nodded, "Okay, Mr. Kogane. Ill grab a few things and we can leave."
