Heather Report
Title seems familiar dont you think?
Astrid had time to know this Heather girl better, she seemed to be a good fighter or might have been a viking sailor since she knows how to swing with the ropes. Heather seems to be stealthy and quick, the only thing is she lacks strength Astrid could see that. A part of her was threatened with her moves but a few part of her wants to befriend Heather.
And so it happened. When Heather needed help to fill up the ship she was expecting the boys to help but ended up to be Astrid. Supposedly the teens around their age would help Heather out but they ended up beating one another to get her attention which also lead Ruffnut to help them get untagled.
"Thanks....-" Heather said as she and Astrid loaded the last box of fire arms on the ship "-sorry for the rush though our men are quiet tired as of the moment." she stopped to fix her bangs away.
"I'm Heather by the way"
Heather let out her hand which Astrid responded with a shake.
"I'm Astrid and welcome to Berk. Feel at home as much as you want"
Heather chuckled. "I felt more entertained with your gang back there-"
She pointed out at Snotlout, Fishlegs, Tuff and Ruff "-it made me feel more at home than usual"
Astrid smiled at her statement, but she could still sense the sadness within her. Losing a home is like losing a part of you inside. Like losing a part of her soul.
"I'm sorry about the attack"
Heather sighed as she could feel Astrid's concerns, she do missed the island of the Bardokkans for it was the only island she first called home after being rescued from Alvin.
"Someday.....someday I'll get my revenge on those Berzerkers"
"I'm with you there too, but right now, right now isn't the right time" Astrid answered.
"Me too, Berzerk scum needs a taste of a Thorston!"
Out of nowhere Tuffnut butted in the conversation. They must have finally got out from their tangled state. Behind Tuff was Snotlout making this suavè looks at Heather which she hardly noticed. Next to Snotlout is Fishlegs, feeling shy but he does want to make a move on the new girl in town.
Don't worry about Ruff, she just stood right next to Astrid.
"Oh Heather I want you to meet the rest of the gang"
As if in order, Astrid introduced Ruff first then to Tuff then Snotlout and last comes Fishlegs.
"Say babe why don't ya try hanging out with me for the rest of the day. You know, just know one another better"
Well guess who the prick just asked Heather.
"I think Snotlout's over you" Ruff whispered to Astrid which she responded with a sly smile and whispered back.
"I think I'm gonna like the new girl here"
Heather enjoyed her time with the gang, having new friends from another island was new to her. Although she did had less time with friends back at her island. After being rescued she vowed to train hard to be able fight her newly found family and promised to protect them from intruders.
She had a good teacher, yes, and a decent partner if you asked her. And that partner was the same guy who rescued her from Outcast Island. She was absorbed by him sometime after a year or two at her island, gained a few fighting skills and stealthy moves and of course climbing up ships with Barg while they voyage. Heather does admit she isn't strong enough to defeat strong enemies but it's enough for her to defend her family.
Yes her family, Barg, Martha and Hayley
Heather enjoyed roaming around Berk, it was big. No, huge for her. The buildings, the houses, the architectural structure of the statues that were mounted on the Meaf Hall amazed her The wooden pathway that leads them to the docks. Everything was new to her sight, no wonder how Barg wanted to drop here before.
"This place is amazing" she blurted out
"Not as much amazing like you" Snotlout blurted out too which Ruffnut hit him from his back.
"Stoick told your father that you'd be spending the night here. You've got plenty of time to explore the whole island." Astrid said as they walked towards the plaza.
"Thanks I appreciate that"
"And if ever you're staying longer we could have a small exercise with the dragons at the arena"
Heather sweat-dropped to Astrid's small exercise with the dragons. "Dragons? You have dragons locked up at your arena?"
Astrid nodded
"So wait a minute.....if your whole village is gonna stay....then where would you guys sleep or where would they sleep....where would you sleep?" Tuffnut dumbly asked from behind.
"Uh at the Mead Hall?" Fishlegs answered.
"Or maybe they won't sleep at all" Said Ruff.
"Idiots, there's a lot of spare houses we abandoned in some raids a few years back, the chief let us rebuilt that remember?" Astrid said as she answered the gang's doubts.
"I think it's best for me to stay on our ship"
"What?! Heather it's better for you to have a good rest in one of the houses. You could sleep in my house if you want to"
Heather really did appreciated Astrid's offer but, still, she isn't used to sleep on another village. It may not be the first time it happened, she wants to feel the presence of anything that was made on Bardokkan.
"Thanks for the offer Astrid my sister Hayley could have a good time at yours but I simply want to be close to our ship"
Ruff snorted at Heather's response "Like what's wrong with you not sleeping at any of our houses.
"It's just.......n-never mind I have to go"
Heather turned back and hugged herself walking away from the group. Astrid sensed that she had been hurt. She knocked Ruff's arm by her elbow and glared. Astrid left the gang catching up with Heather's pace. The look on her face tells she was definitely hurt.
She seemed so badly offended from Ruffnut, her eyes could tell how attached she is to her home. She surely loves her island very much, that ship was the only raw material she could have to remind her home.
"Hey-" Astrid patted her shoulder "-I know what you've been thinking. I'm sorry for Ruff being rude, it's just she's dense as her brother. The ship meant a lot to you so I won't take it hard from you.
Heather looked at her accepting her apology without saying anything.
" You must have loved your home very much"
Heather smiled before replying "Tell me about it, it's the only place I first called home ever since I got out from Outcast Island."
Astrid's eyes widen "Outcast Island? You've been a prisoner before?"
"Well more of I-grew-half-of-my-childhood there thanks to Alvin" her brows folded with anger as she reminded herself.
"What happened?"
Heather honestly didn't want to talk about her dark past at Outcast Island. It only made her feel worst, she had been treated like a dog and nobody had ever helped her recover in times she's badly injured. Yes some of her companions were like her but each and every one of them wants to either get the hell out of that hole or be one of the Outcasts. Unfortunately half of the prisoners turned in to be one of them.
All the sadness, she wanted to let it out for a bit. Barg and Martha had been the only people see her vulnerable side.
"I've been traded, as far as I could remember. I was a mindless child when I last saw my real parents."
Although she had doubts whether her parents did sold her out or was kidnapped by the Outcast. Alvin had been laughing at her that her parents were naive to sell their one and only child for the sake of money. Stories from her cell said she was not sold to the Outcast, they were positively sure she was kidnapped or taken away by force.
"All through out the year we were forced to serve Alvin and his men. He is the main source of slavery trade in the whole viking archipelago. I'm not sure if there were other tribes than Berzerk that were involved, Romans were involved for sure. If you don't do your work means you won't have food for the night or receive a good beating before you go to sleep"
"How did you manage to get out of there?"
"Someone helped me out. Berzerks came to visit and traded deadly weapons for a few of us prisoners. That's when I saw Dagur, he violently dragged me to his ship but I fought through to get out of his hands. Although he still is a brute and slapped me hard. I sort of blacked out before I heard explosions, next thing a knew Martha was aiding me"
She paused a bit getting the wind to her hair face and hair, same as what Astrid did as she tucked some loose strands of her hair.
"When Barg entered the house I thought I was explaining my whole story all over again since it was only Martha who I spoke to first when I gained consciousness.....but then he just smiled and gave me a reassuring hug. He said the boy who rescued me explained everything.
So there I was, Barg took me in Martha nursed me. Hayley was still three but I pushed through taking care of her. They all treated as one of their own, especially Barg who gave time to train me to defend myslef. For once in my life I was happy to be alive. Oh Odin why did I even cursed myself to give up my life, he gave me a family to fill on my sorrows. A clan, a home that I could go with life"
A small tear shed from her eyes, she truly longed for a home like the Bardokkans. She wished she would never loose them out of her sight, who knew an outcast like her would never recover this fast. Heather vowed to protect this family all her life that's why she tried hard to follow Barg's training.
"Wow that's.......you've been through a tough life"
"Well you could say a mouthful of that" Heather chuckled soflty, glad to have someone to talk to.
"Those were some stunts you maneuvered back there" Astrid asked curiously as she remembered Heather jumping and climbing up the ships.
Heather smiled "That was nothing, I did hurdles and jumps when I attempted to escape the outcast numerous times."
"No way! What you did back there....was far off to a viking"
Astrid exclaimed, Heather was surprised.
"Ok I had few training sessions with someone at the clan since I wanted to be stealthy against intruders"
They both shared more from one another till they realized the sky was getting dark and a little chilly. Once they made it to town Heather spotted Hayley by the docks. Astrid happily introduced herself to her, as what Hayley did to Stoick, she gave a flower to Astrid. Heather laughed as she patted Hayley lovingly.
'Heather does have soft spot to her foster family, especially Hayley' Astrid thought
Barg was just outside their ship calling out for Heather, something about he wanted to discuss for a while. Barg had also told Heather and Hayley that they'll have to sleep in town and Barg will be the one to guard the ship. Of course Heather did not agree with him but gave up eventually.
Before talking with Barg, Heather came to Astrid stating she and Hayley would sleep in their house.
"Thanks for being a friend Astrid, I thought I'd never have a friend in a new town like Berk. Things are being complicated on the way, a nice talk with you eased the worries"
"Hey no problem Heather, I'll take Hayley home first so she wouldn't feel cold after you talk to Barg"
As Astrid started to walk with Hayley holding her hand Heather asked one last question.
"Say Astrid?"
Astrid looked behind her to face Heather. "Do you need something?"
"Not at all really, I wanna ask if the rumors were true about dragons in the deep parts of the forest"
"Apparently, there are a number of dragons in the forest today not like five years ago they used to not stay here in Berk. The chief forbids anyone to go the forest alone"
She replied Heather, of course she omitted the part that only she, Astrid, could go beyond the forest to blow off some steam with her axe. She wouldn't want anyone to know that. Although she was a bit curious of Heather's questions "Why'd you asked?"
"Don't mention Hayley you have dragons nor tell her you have a forest nearby. She kind of wanders by herself in there" Heather warned.
Astrid's eyes widen with the news but it was a good heads up "Oh........ok then"
It was late night at the forest, exactly at Raven's Point, and Heather knew she should be at Astrid's or Hayley might really wander off to find her.
She didn't lie about Hayley wondering off because it's merely the truth, that kid has a huge imagination stored up. Hayley was scared of dragons too because she nearly saw Heather been eaten by an untamed Changewing, but she wasn't afraid of a certain Night Fury who used to visit Heather to check if she's doing ok.
Heather has a few secrets on her sleeves too, all the stories she told to Astrid was all true but there were a few parts she didn't tell. Like who saved her and how she actually got out Outcast Island with hungry looking and viscous Outcasts and Berzerkers on the loose.
Of course she flew out of the island with a Night Fury and a scrawny boy who covered his face with cloth like a bandit.
"You shouldn't be here Heather, it's dangerous"
Someone said from behind, it sounded lime it was talking with a helmet on. She knew who it is.
"Shouldn't I be the one who needs to warn you? That you shouldn't be in Berk?"She joked as she looked behind her.
He came forth removing his helmet so he could talk to Heather properly and face to face. His face could be seen from the moonlight, his hair standing out in different directions, he's had a prosthetic leg that could shift into some sorts. He wasn't scrawny nor thin, in fact he did quiet a toning with his arms, legs and torso.
"Are you threatening me huh?" he pointed out with all his sarcasm.
"As a matter of fact I am Haddock" she crossed her arms and raised an eye brow. "You do know that your head is worth mounting in this village walls"
He chuckled lowly "Yeah I'm highly aware of that thank you very much"
"How's home?" She asked sadly to him, he looked away to avoid making eye contact. He knew she would be upset.
"No good, completely in ash. Barg won't like the sight of it too."
Heather sighed, she already knew it would be hopeless to go back. "Dagur's dragons then, did you manage to get them out of his command?"
He smiled slightly at this and nodded as a response "Only the Skrill got away but I managed to convince the rest of his dragons to not serve him......so any reports while you were here?"
She crossed her arms first before talking back. "As if you don't know our clan had finally come to Berk and we just reloaded the ships and-"
"I didn't mean about that-" he cut her off but Heather beat him to it.
"-the whole tribe didn't notice you were coming because I distracted their best man and watchers, they still kept the dragons under the arena, your father is scary, those four councilors finally gone too, new recruits are a bit weak and nothing much has changed.........Ok how about you?"
His jaw dropped with the news but completely satisfied with the report.
"You do surprise me so much Heather......I simply don't know why you rejected me. After all my help and training to you?"
Heather sighed. Sure this was the guy who saved her and all but she absolutely have no time to fall in love. It had been 2 years for Hiccup to show some care and feelings after he had been through in his adventures. He tried to improve Heather's stances and fighting skills whenever he comes and visit Heather if ever she's doing fine. In the process Hiccup had developed his feelings for her, but Heather declined for some good reason. Plus, Heather knew something about him and his shattered heart.
"Hiccup, I'm sorry, but I did like you, it's just.....I'm not in for it"
Hiccup knew she would always say something like that, he knew for sure. It has always been like this but he simply can't get the point. Was liking Heather worth it anyway?
He turned his back to Heather before answering her, with a sigh "Berzerkers are here, they knew you guys would drop by before going back to your home. "
Heather was taken back with the news "I guess Dagur's still chasing me around"
"There's more-" he sounds hesitant "-they're planning to destroy Berk. Completely destroy this place"
"Well that's nothing new"
"Tell me about it so I decided to end it here once and for all"
"How?"
He paused as he slammed his helmet back to his face "You'll see,-" he fixed himself before leaving, still, something bugs him and he needed to know.
"-anything else I need to know before I go down there?"
Heather couldn't simply remove the sly smile she plastered on her face. Surely he wanted to hear, to know if something had changed, especially that tough valkyrie. He might not be highly aware of his feelings even though he said he gone over her years ago.
"Oh don't worry Hiccup, nothing much has changed"
And to that Heather ran towards town before Hiccup could ask more.

I know I have some explaining to do regarding my sudden disappearance two months ago, but let's just leave it there ✌️
And so......Heather is now part of this, and and and she's not mean nor evil. I pity her to be honest haha because some of the HTTYD fanfics sees her as a threat to Astrid and I say why don't I make her the good gal here. And yes yes I'll make sure Hiccup explains and no they won't be shipped together.
