Chapter 7
I watched as the last embers of the fire died out, leaving just the white glow of the moon and the stars to cast a network of shadows through the tree branches. Robyn was dead to the world, but as the temperature dropped her small body began to shake all the same.
I took my jacket off and wrapped it around her shoulders in an attempt to stop the subconscious shivering. She needs it far more than I do and since she wasn't awake to argue, there was nothing stopping me sacrificing a little warmth for her.
Every now and then I feel the urge to sleep, but I immediately push the thought out of my mind. I have to keep watch.
They'll be people in these woods looking for us. And I couldn't let anyone harm my Robyn.
I love her you know.
I love her a lot.
I kept trying to tell her, but something always interrupted. Maybe that was a sign that I shouldn't risk ruining our friendship, but I don't know how much longer I can resist the urges. I'd been hiding it for years.
I leant my lips down to her forehead and planted a kiss on her forehead taking my time to enjoy the sweetness of her scent and softness of her skin.
When the Elder first told me to stay away from her I knew it would be hard.
Come September, the ache for her beautiful smile and the melodic sound of her voice was beginning to set in.
By October, it was totally and utterly devouring me.
Sometimes I would climb onto her balcony and gaze through the window at her sleeping figure. Creepy I know, but the Elder never said anything that prohibited looking at the love of my life.
She just has an allure about her. Something unique and special. Something powerful. I just couldn't get enough of it. Even right now brought me pain. She's with me, but she's not mine.
She has to be mine.
