The Outside
THUNK!
Richard did the kick again and hit the bag the way Slade taught him.
That was what his life was like now; Sleep, eat, train, repeat.
It had been like that for the past week.
And oh, did he yearn for the sun. For the outdoors.
Yet, his room didn't have windows.
Oh, no, his room was in the basement.
Along with the make-shift study room and training room.
The only time he saw outdoors was when he was upstairs in the kitchen or living room.
And it just made him want the outdoors more.
BANG!
Richard started hitting the punching bag.
Fast and relentless, he hit.
The table was well lit. In fact, the whole room was, but the table was in the middle of the room.
Two chairs sat on the opposite side of each other.
"Sit." Slade's voice said.
Slade took one chair and Robin sat in the other one.
"What's this?" Robin asked looking at the paper on the table.
"A contract. We're going to negotiate this." Slade said.
Robin thought for a moment before nodding.
"I request that you listen to me, do everything I say, are respectful, and obey me." Slade said.
"What are your conditions?" Slade asked.
Robin looked up from Slade's hand writing on the paper with a pen.
"C-Conditions?" Richard asked
Slade nodded, "What do you want?"
"I..." Robin thought for moment, "I want to know if my friends and family are alright. A-And I don't want you to threaten their lives any more!"
Slade nodded and wrote Robin's conditions down.
"Alright, anything else?" Slade asked.
Robin's mind was blank.
Dick shook his head.
"Okay, then, sign here." Slade pointed to a line.
Richard picked up the pen, but didn't sign his name yet.
"I'm a patient man, Robin." Slade said.
Robin licked his lips before he asked the question burning in his mind, "What about me?"
"What do you mean?" Slade asked.
"W-What happens to me?" Dick asked.
"You're mine. I'l take care of you." Slade said.
Richard still didn't sign.
Dick bit the bottom of his lip.
"Robin, you can end all this now. Just sign the paper." Slade said.
Richard signed 'Robin' on the line.
BAM!
The punching back was punched off the chain and landed in a heap on the floor.
'Why did he sign that stupid contract?!'
Tears were starting to form in the corners of Robin's eyes.
'Why was he so stupid? Why?'
Richard fell to his knees.
'Why couldn't Slade just let him BE?'
Dick screamed before he started punching the bag again.
Tear were falling as he punched till his knuckles were raw.
'Why couldn't he be free?'
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Slade watched from the cameras as Robin beat the punching bag while crying.
"Perhaps it is time to go talk to him. And maybe a walk outside wouldn't hurt the boy." Wintergreen said.
"He will try to run, Will." Slade said.
"If you're that worried about him, then might I suggest a tracker. Preferably a bracelet one. The collar is a bit...unusual." Wintergreen said.
"He's not a usual kid." Slade said.
"And another good reason to take him outside." Will said.
Slade sighed as he pinched his nose, "You're not going to let this go are you?"
"Or do you want me to do it?" William asked.
"He's not to know about you yet." Slade hissed.
"Well if you keep up this act, I'll let him know." Wintergreen snapped back.
"Fine! I'll take the boy for a walk." Slade sighed.
"Sometimes I wonder who the child really is here." Will shook his head and walked out.
Slade glared at his back as he left.
After Will left, he looked at the cameras again.
He supposed that Wintergreen was right.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Robin rubbed his eyes with his hands.
"Stop that." Slade's voice was heard.
Richard didn't listen.
One of his hands was ripped away from his face.
"I told you to stop." Slade said harshly.
Richard flinched.
He opened one eye to see what Slade was doing.
Slade had a first aid kit and was applying salve to Robin's open wounds.
Slade then took some gauze and rolled it around Robin's knuckles.
He then cut the gauze and tapped it.
Slade let go of Robin's hand and grabbed Robin's other hand.
He repeated the process.
"You need to be more careful." Slade said as he finished Robin's other hand.
Richard didn't say anything.
"Come on, get up. We're going for a walk." Slade said.
Richard got up slowly.
"We don't have all day." Slade said at the door to the hallway.
Dick followed Slade.
Slade suddenly stopped in front of a door that Richard had never been in before.
Slade pointed for Richard to come inside.
Dick walked into the room.
It had buttercream walls, wood flooring, wood window trim, a white and black marble desk, a black rolling chair, a few black book shelves, and a bed.
A few objects lined the walls, such as swords, news articles, and a few pictures.
"Where are-" Robin started.
"My room. The only time you are allowed in here is when I say you can go in here. Any other time, it is off limits. Do you understand?" Slade hissed, glaring at Robin.
Robin nodded quickly.
"Come here." Slade motioned Robin over to him.
Slade had a key in his hand and in his other hand he had a band.
Slade took off Robin's collar and put it back in it's box.
Then, Slade put the band on Robin's right wrist.
"There, now, go get civilian clothes on. After you do so, meet me in the living room." Slade said.
Robin nodded and left.
By the time Robin got dressed in his civilian clothes, which consisted of black and white high tops, black skinny jeans, an orange shirt, and a black jacket, along with some black sunglasses, and into the living room, Slade was there.
Slade was wearing black combat boots, black jeans, a lose ponytail, a blue shirt, and a black jacket. He also had a necklace around his neck, but Robin couldn't see it all that clearly.
"Ready?" Slade asked.
Robin nodded.
"Lets go." Slade said and walked over to the door that was always locked.
Except this time, it opened.
Robin and Slade walked outside.
The base they were at was in a heavily wooded area.
Seriously, there was trees as far as Robin's eye could see.
And that was when Robin realized, he had a bit of an advantage.
Sure, it was Slade's territory, but the trees were Robin's play-set.
And he was ready to fly again.
After getting a message from , I realized that I forgot to post this chapter.
