Finding Alice
Don't remember! Don't remember! The chant rings in my ears as I squeeze my eyes shut. I choke on my tears as grief envelopes me like a thick, scratchy blanket I can't lift. I have to save my friend. My stomach rumbles: I needed food but I had consumed every drop, every bite and every piece of what little I had back at the village. Suddenly, the need to stop the bloodshed is so overwhelming; I need to stop to overcome it. I know my purpose: I'm going to fulfil it.
After days and days of arduous travelling, I stand in the midst of towering trees gazing at the holding cells amazed and disgusted at the same time. Sitting down, I stare at my dirty calloused hands, which have hardened from my useless attempts of trying to climb trees. Blearing horns are so loud, people need to shout to be heard; in the village, you can cut the silence with a knife. Shuffling behind trees, I take care to stay invisible- if my enemies find me, they will strip me down to the very last bone. As I proceed towards my destination, I wonder how I will enter. Guards surround every inch of ground, their faces stern and unforgiving- passing them will be impossible. Inching closer, I see my life slipping away, I try to hold on, but like sand, it slips away. The stench of fear burns my nose and the temptation to flee is unbearable. Ignoring my needs, I analyse the guards hoping for any sign of weakness or flaw. No. Such. Luck.
Wandering inside the building, I loathe everything inside it: evil is embedded in the stark white walls; sadness clings to me like weights and an ominous silence fills the air.
"Hurry up before I have to kill you myself" growls a petrifying voice, "I promise you, your death will not be pleasant!" I clench my fists as his sadistic laugh echoed through the hall. That's when I see her. A familiar girl with chestnut hair...
