"Victoria please! Stop this madness" mother snapped; she released a breath full of exhaustion as though she was the one speaking to the demented. Since I had told her about the destruction of her only hope her anxiety had been growing slowly. She began to fidget which cause me to grow cautious, so for her safety as well as mine I had successfully knocked her out in the car.

On our way to the city I had come across car dealership, I had made the instant decision to trade my car, whoever had it now would sure give Mark the run around for a while until my mother and I meet up with Jay.

Like I had promised I called Jay back after two hours and we agreed to meet in the next city and fly out from there. An hour after our conversation my mother had woken up and was extremely upset about what I did to her. I can't say that I haven't warranted her anger but with the way she was acting I think it was justifiable.

"Mom, I'm only doing what's best for us alright? I know you miss that god awful man but that's only because of the Stockholm syndrome, the more you're away from him the more you'll be your old self again before he came along."

My mother gripped her hair for the umpteenth time as her eyes darted around, searching. For what? I don't know divine intervention perhaps. She pulled on the hand cuffs I had slapped on her, I couldn't risk her running off or leading her husband straight to us.

"For the last time, child" she growled "I am not crazy! I know it's hard to believe that there's another world out there completely different from the one you've lived so far but if you had just let Mark and Alpha Darius prove it to you then this would all be cleared up."

"Right...when Uncle Jay meets us and takes you to a shrink then we'll see if we need to question the state of your sanity, as for this conversation, it's over. I'm going out to get us some food." I grabbed my purse and stormed out of the motel room, I couldn't be around her any more than I had. Hearing her speak to passionately about Mark and his cult made undiluted rage rush through my veins to the point where I shook.

As I moved along the concreted path the world around me seemed to be speeding by, everyone was doing something, no matter how large or small, it was something that mattered to them. Thoughts of my mother filled my head, maybe after she got the help she needed I could sit her down and have a heart to heart.

Purchasing the food took a lot longer than I thought it would have, I briskly made my way back to the motel where my mother was. Upon walking in I froze, she had the disposable phone in her hand, holding it closely to her ear.

"Mark, I don't know what to tell, she doesn't belie-" her sentence was cut short as she stared at me in horror "Victoria..."

I really thought I could trust her, but it would seem to be just the opposite.

In two strides I reached her, discarding the food on the bed I reached for the mobile only to have her back away from me. "Victoria, listen here, I am your mother, you need to stop and consider what I've told you."

I lunged at her, sending us both to the ground, mom cried out but nevertheless she refused to unhand the phone. As we wrestled for the phone I could hear Mark's panic voice, the mere sound only made the fire inside me grow. Finally after getting the phone from my mother's clutches I scrambled from the ground, my father had taught me how to defend myself from an early age, in whatever I did I had to be. Before my mother could move I dug my fingers in the junction between her neck and shoulder, in seconds she fell flat.

Turning my attention back to the phone, I put it to my ear, Mark was still yelling in panic pleading with my mother to say something.

"Sharon, honey!"

"She won't be coming to the phone anytime soon" I rasped.

"Victoria, what have you done? Have you hurt her?" the panic in his voice was being overpowered by anger.

"Exactly what do you take me for she's my mother" I snapped.

I heard as he sighed, heavily might I add "Victoria, I know what we told you sounded barbaric-"

"I'm glad you realized that, maybe you and Darius could check yourselves into the nearest asylum."

"Everything we have told you is the truth Victoria, whether you want to believe it or not. I was hoping to give you more time to adjust but you need to understand Victoria your mother belongs with me."

"Because she's your soul mate right?"

"Yes, exactly."

I chuckled while shaking my head "my mother certainly indeed has a soulmate, but he died some months ago."

There was a pause on the other end before I heard a growl, I knew that Mark had no pets, now that I thought of it; no one in that damned town had any at all.

"Is that what this is about? Your father? You're right about one thing Victoria, Johnathan is dead. Gone. Sharon is mine! You will bring me my wife back."

Red clouded my vision as pain grew in my heart, when I spoke, even I couldn't recognize my own voice "don't you ever utter my father's name again. You aren't worthy enough to speak it. My mother is her own woman and as pathetic as you are you've convinced her that she loves you. Taking advantage of a woman in grief was very low; you can expect divorce papers within a week."

I launched the phone through the air watching as he shattered against the wall. My hatred for Mark grew more with every passing second.
