Chapter 7

I woke up under the full moon's unfiltered light. Directly above me, the stars glittered around the sky and competed with the moon's glow for the spotlight. My body felt heavy and uncomfortable as I lay on a patch of crushed grass and soil. I recognized the smell of my forest instantly. All of the trees, grass, and earth in these woods belonged to my pack, but there was a problem.
There were no clearings this large in the Viridian woods. The town had a strict policy against deforestation.
Slowly, my senses returned to me in full and I realized I was not alone.
"Looks like Sin is awake." I recognized Axel's voice almost instantly.
"Good, we'll need his help with this mess." Another voice that I recognized said thoughtfully.
As soon as I sat up, my head started spinning. Not because of dizziness, but because my bloody woods had been torn apart. Every tree in a hundred meters had been torn down and thrown away in a giant square around the area. Mountains of dirt and rock were piled high on top of the trees to create something like a giant cage around us.
I nearly fell back down when I finally took in the thirty-foot-deep crater in the ground right in the center of the clearing. Me and three of the other Alpha were covered in dirt and leaves. My instinct took over first and one hand flew toward my neck to make sure the silver pendant was still there.
"What the hell happened?" I growled at the others.
"What does it look like, Sin?" the poor mutt excuse for an Alpha asked. Richard Yang was the last man on the planet that I'd want to see right after waking up. "We're standing in the middle of a dinky as forest next to a shitty hole in the ground."
If I hadn't invited him into my territory, I'd be happily tearing him apart for talking shit about my home. Especially after seeing part of it destroyed like this.
"Yang, that's enough. Now, that we're all awake, we should leave. This place would be perfect for a trap and I don't want to be here when one springs." The Fourth man spoke up. He was probably the only guy I'd ever look up to at this point. Clay Ren, the windy city's benevolent Alpha. He threw me out of a window when I was a kid...nice guy though.
"How long have I been asleep?" worry started sneaking into my mind when I realized that I no longer had my phone...or my clothes.
"We've been out for at least a day. I think Lady Luminaria forced us to come here after her big announcement." Clay stood at the edge of the crater and looked out into the space below. We need to take a look around."
"Then why don't you get to it, bird boy. I hear you can fly. I didn't believe it when I heard it, but with those scrawny arms, you probably take off whenever the wind blows," Dick said, laughing at his own joke. He's one of those people that are somehow okay with being the only one to laugh at something.
Clay rolled with it like a pro, "That's not a bad idea. Hunter, give me a boost."
I really didn't like the idea of taking orders from anyone, but at the same time, I knew Clay was not the type to take advantage of someone's trust. So I braced myself and started growing.
Clay sprinted in my direction and when he came into range, he jumped up and landed in my hands. With all of my strength, I launched him into the air and watched the windy Alpha transform into a giant gray eagle. The wind whistled under his wings and Clay glided all around the surrounding areas.
"I can't believe the rumors about him are true," Axel whistled slowly beside me. Then he turned to me and his green eyes glowed extra bright in the darkness. "So are the rumors about you true as well?"
For the umpteenth time since waking up, I was confused. "What are the rumors about me?"
Dick jumped into the conversation forcefully. "That you can breathe fire since you're a fag!" he snickered and I considered pushing him into the crater.
I didn't get to answer either of them, however, since Clay chose that moment to return. He landed gracefully and shifted back into a fully grown naked man covered in mud. His face was grim when he looked at me.
"What's wrong? What did you see?" I asked.
"You're not going to like it..." my stomach dropped. "Hunter, this isn't your territory anymore."
