Chapter 9

"Will you not bow to your prince?" the soft resonant tones echoed in my head.
As I fell onto my knee, I felt something new causing me pain. An insecurity. A weakness.
How many people could rip away the supposedly mighty Alpha's control like this?
I was tired and stressed. My mind was confused and filled with thoughts about the mistake I may have made by asking the Lycans for help. My soul felt exhausted and heavy from so many transformations in one day. If I did it few more times I'd lose control of myself entirely.
"My, that is better. So many fine warrior class Alpha, bowing to little old me. I am touched," he spoke in that charmed voice of his. 'little old him' was probably hiding over 200 pounds of pure muscle beneath that pristine fur of his judging by the way the earth broke at each of his steps.
He walked fully out of the crater now and leisurely strut into our group. We were still bowing on one knee, and each of us would continue to do so until he told us not to.
"My Omega have told me a great deal of what the warrior class looks like in modern times. I must say I am intrigued."
He walked in slow, taunting circles around Axel and said, "They speak of an Alpha with a talent for running and swimming. Versatile and vigilant like any warrior should be, but he was too slow to save him dear wife when she needed him most. When she had already turned and learned to trust in him, he was nowhere to be found. Looking at you now, Astray, I am amazed that a mere demon could have been too fast for you."
Axel was trembling. Not in fear, but in a mix of shock and rage. I didn't know anything about his life before he came to help, but this seemed like a really sick way to bring it up. Then Prince Bastian began circling Dick and I knew how this encounter was going to go for us all.
"Ah, my poor old mind must be growing dull. What was the name my Omega used? The Heartbreaker? The ultimate Player? Ah, now I remember!" Dick's head dropped a bit more to hide his face. "The Mateless Mongrel. A shapeshifter that grew up so strong all on his own and even became an Alpha through willpower alone. You are quite impressive, Yang. It is quite unfortunate that you can't seem to settle on a mate after all these years. I'm sure all the women in South America must line up for their chance," the prince spoke with his 20 voices and at least half of them felt like they were laughing at Richard.
Next, he chose to circle Clay and I could have sworn I saw his eyes twinkle. "Perhaps the most impressive warrior, is the one that is not a warrior at all. He has the power of any Alpha, but uses it like no other. I saw a dirty gray bird flying overhead not long ago, and I had to resist the temptation to knock it out of the sky." Suddenly, the prince placed a heavy paw on Clay's back drove him into the ground hard. Clay cried out and seemed to regain enough control to try getting back up, but Bastian's strength was clearly too much. He was pinned completely and struggling only covered his face in more dirt.
"Let that be the last time you fly over a royal's head. Be more mindful of the gifts you were given and don't get carried away." The prince's main voice was always calm, but the resonating voices were growling in anger. "Now, lay there until the ground feels more like home!"
I was next, but I already had an idea of what he would say. His Omega spies would have told him about my fire-breathing somehow. It was unnerving to find out how much information could leak among shifters.
"I am sure you must have been just dying to know what I have heard about you, young Sin. I still remember the sass and fire that your sister brought into our court when she pleaded for our help. You can just imagine my utter delight when I found out that there was a true fire-breather in your bloodline again. One like you has not appeared for thousands of years.
"Sure, there have been a few heated breaths throughout the generation, but none who could do it after finding a mate. So tell me, Sin, what would you do if I killed the boy?" ...
"What?" my voice broke through his spell.
"What was the child's name? Oh, yes, Jake of Kent. Ah, and I should probably not call him a child if he's proven himself to the Sin household. So, what would you do if I ripped his heart out in front of you? Or rather, that I already have."
A vision of Jake's still body filled my mind. His shirt was covered in blood and his neck was torn open. His eyes were wide and staring up and me in fear. He was scared and then his body went still. My heart exploded and I couldn't hold it in.
I fell to my hands and knees, just barely holding myself up. Hate, anger, pain and so many other emotions burned inside me till I shut my eyes and screamed. The burning inside me intensified for a moment before bursting from my lips along with a heated cry.
When my vision cleared and I realized that it was just a dream, my heart started to calm down again. I felt weak in every one of my limbs. Yet, prince Bastian looked golden. His long white jaw was twisted into an elated wolf grin. His neon green eyes were wide and beaming with fascination. It was just an illusion. Probably just like what he showed the others. And I fell for it like an idiot. Now he knew just how much my mate meant to me.
"Ah, yes. I will certainly have to pay this Kent a visit," prince Bastian said with a final echoing voice as he turned and walked away into the shadows. Clearly satisfied with his discoveries tonight.

So here it is. A lot of backstory on the new Alpha in town as well as something that a lot of people have requested. This is how the naming system works. An Alpha is basically a powerful warrior that can turn into a full on werewolf. There's only ever one Alpha in a pack, but that's usually enough to protect them.
