Chapter Five Evidence
Coulson stormed through the Shield base, May, Bobbi, and Skye at his heels.
"You are not bringing him along on this mission," May said. "We can handle it without him."
"It's my decision," Coulson replied. "I'm the director."
"I thought you wanted a council looking over you," May urged on.
Coulson stopped abruptly and whipped around at her, clearly annoyed. "Fine then! We'll vote! All in favor of leaving Ward here and risking our chance of saving that Shield base!"
May raised her hand and glared at Bobbi, but Bobbi didn't look at her and kept her hand down.
"All in favor of bringing Ward along and making it a better chance of saving Shield!" Coulson exclaimed, pretty much yelling from stress.
Skye's hand shot up, followed by Coulson's. Bobbi glanced at May nervously and bit her lip before slowly raising her hand up. May scowled at her.
"It's settled!" Coulson exclaimed, looking at May. "Does that make you feel better?! Because you just wasted precious time of saving innocent agents. May! Go load up a Quinn Jet. Bobbi! Go get Hunter. Tell him to suit up. And Skye! Go get Ward."
Skye nodded before rushing down to the basement.
"Ward!" Skye called, sprinting down the stairs.
Ward leaped up from his bed, excited that Skye was here.
"What's wrong?"
"A Shield base is under attack," Skye answered. "They are gonna need more than we have. And....."
"And?!" Ward urged.
Skye sighed. "We need you."
Ward's expression turned into a grin. "Don't have to ask me twice."
❃
Coulson, Skye, Ward, Bobbi, and Hunter all sat in the plane. May was up front flying it. There was another Quinn Jet flying next to May's. It had more field agents in it. May's plane was dead silent. Hunter was playing with his thumbs. Bobbi and Skye kept giving each other looks, it was like they were having a whole silent conversation. Coulson and Ward seemed to be having a stare down. Coulson finally broke it and looked away.
"Soooooo.....ummm," Coulson blurted out. "I didn't expect it to be this awkward.
Ward chuckled. "Well, if you put a bunch of people who love and care for each other together, and then add someone they disgust in the mix, it doesn't really turn out well!"
Skye sighed and looked at Ward. You're not disgusting! I love you!
Hunter cleared his throat awkwardly. "So, who are we dealing with exactly?"
Coulson sighed. "We are dealing with terrorists. We don't know from where because the Shield agent didn't have time to tell us much, but she definitely needs our help."
"We are almost there!" May called. "Everybody start loading guns and icers."
Skye loaded three guns and handed Ward one. His hand touched her's. They glanced at each other as Skye blushed. Then they kept loading icers and guns like everyone else.
Skye sighed. This was gonna be a long trip.
❃
"Ok," Coulson announced, as they headed into the building. He looked at his tablet to see how many terrorists were coming at them. "Skye and Ward will go to the computer lab. See if they can hack into the power and also get a view of the whole building. Bobbi and Hunter will take the left corridor to see if there are any agents in need of help. May and I will get to the Shield agent who called us."
They heard men running towards them and Skye and Ward bolted off to the right, and down the hall. They leaned up against the wall, about to go around the corner. Skye turned her head and looked back at Ward.
Ward grinned at her. "We're finally alone!"
Skye smiled back. "Finally!"
Then they both leaped around the corner and shot some guards. 15 more came around the corner. Ward started to shoot. Skye stopped him.
"Don't waist your bullets," she advised.
Then she put out her hand as seismic waves came barreling out of her. It threw all the guards back, knocking some of them out. Skye and Ward took out the rest. They rushed into the computer lab. Skye slid into one of the computer seats and started typing away.
"How long will this take?" Ward asked.
"I'm not sure. If I can get it done without any interruptions, then like five minutes," Skye said, without looking up from the computer.
The terrorists were banging on the door.
"That door won't hold for long," Ward stated.
"Well," Skye replied, again, without looking up. "Better get ready."
Ward smirked playfully at Skye before pulling out a gun and standing by the door. Soon enough, the terrorists blasted through the door. Ward attacked them. Skye kept typing, like nothing was happening. One terrorist came over to Skye. She didn't even look at him, but she put out her hand and seismic waves came out. The guy went flying back, into a wall, and passed out. The other terrorists looked at her, and ran back to fight Ward. Ward was clearly outnumbered, and eventually got thrown to the floor.
"Skye," he said, struggling to get up while the guards were attacking him. They had surrounded him, and he was lying on the floor.
"One second," Skye replied, typing quickly.
"Skye," Ward said again, his head bleeding down to his face.
"Done!" Skye yelled. Then she turned to Ward, and put out her hand. All the terrorists went flying back.
"You ok?" She asked, and helped Ward up. She put her hand on his face and looked at him. He looked back at her, mesmerized.
"I am now," he answered, and grinned.
Ward had to fight the feeling to kiss Skye, again.
Skye rushed back to the computer and looked at the map of the building.
"Coulson?" She said into her comp.
"What?" He asked, while punching a terrorist in the face.
"I've got the map of the building, and everyone who's in it. There's about 20 terrorists left. They are near Hunter and Bobbi. If they could-"
"Hunter's down," Bobbi interrupted as she talked into her comp. "I repeat Hunter's down."
Bobbi was feeling Hunter's pulse. He was shot in the shoulder.
"We're closest to you guys," Skye said, looking at the map. "We'll be right over.
Skye and Ward rushed to Hunter.
"Hurry!" Bobbi yelled. "There's more terrorists coming!"
Skye and Ward attacked the terrorists, while Bobbi got Hunter up. Ward thought he had finished one, but it came back and was about to shoot him. Skye saw him and shot the terrorist, saving Ward.
"Thanks," he said, exhausted.
"No problem," she replied, breathing hard.
Then they rushed to help Hunter.
"Coulson?" Skye called into her comp. "Lets get out of here!"
"Don't have to tell me twice!" Coulson called back. "We need to get Hunter back to the base! We finished up most of the terrorists right?"
"Yeah!"
"Then the Shield agents here can take care of them. Let's go!"
❃
"There you are," Simmons said, as she wrapped Hunter's shoulder up. "Now that wasn't to hard, was it?"
Hunter groaned. "I guess not."
Bobbi laughed and patted his other shoulder. "He's a tough one."
Meanwhile, Skye and Ward were in another room. Ward was sitting down while Skye was getting a towel wet with warm water. His face was bloody and it needed to be cleaned. Skye squeezed out the towel and came over to Ward. She sat on his lap and started cleaning his face off.
"I have a feeling Coulson trusts you," Skye said and smiled.
Ward grinned. "Yeah, but I don't think May, Simmons, or Fitz will ever trust me again. I mean, I don't blame them, Fitzsimmons could have died because of me."
Coulson listened to them by the door. He carefully peeked around the corner and looked at them. They're such a cute couple.
Skye continued to clean Ward's face. He looked at her like she was an angel. Then May came next to Coulson.
"Have you seen Ward?" She asked. "We need to lock him up."
She started to go around the corner. Coulson stopped her.
"Uh I wouldn't go in there!" He said quickly. "Ward isn't in there."
May looked at him with a glare. She got past him and walked into the room.
"Skye May's coming," Ward warned.
He shoved Skye off his lap as she sprang to her feet.
"Skye," May said.
"Yes?" She asked.
"We need to lock Ward back up," May ordered. "Now."
"But-"
"Now," May said firmly.
"Hold on," Coulson said, walking into the room. "Ward showed that he's loyal multiple times. First, when he went on the mission to get Lincoln and Deathlok back. Then, he helped Bobbi. Now, he just helped us save a whole Shield base." Coulson sighed. "Ward, I'm willing to make you an offer."
Skye and Ward's jaw dropped.
"What?!" May yelled.
"Ward can work with us and be Shield, as long as Skye's watching him at all times," Coulson ordered.
May glared at all of them. "But you have to be at least level four to watch over or keep an eye on anyone."
"Well," Coulson replied and looked at Skye. "Welcome to level four."
