Chapter Nineteen The Woods

Skye zipped up her suit as Ward flew the plane over the building. Coulson had sent them on a mission alone. They thought it was super important and required all of them, but apparently not. Then again, they both had powers and were able to take down a lot of people. The building they were supposed to attack, a Hydra base, was in the middle of a forest, in the middle of nowhere.
"We're gonna be landing soon," Ward called. "Make sure everything's ready."
Then there was a loud thud on the plane roof. Skye looked up. "What the heck?"
Then the plane door opened and harsh wind immediately blew in. Skye grabbed hold of something and looked at the door. Someone walked straight in, no problem. He was a tall guy, probably enhanced. Nobody just waltzes into a plane in midair.
Skye looked at him alarmed. She looked towards the front of the plane where Ward was and was about to call him when the guy through something at the door. The door closed and locked, locking Ward in.
"Skye?" Ward asked, curiously. "You ok?"
Skye wanted to answer Ward desperately. But that lock could also be a bomb on the door, waiting for someone to try and unlock it. She had to keep quiet.
The guy turned around and closed the plane door. Then he turned back to Skye and stared at her. She let go of the handle she was holding and straightened up. The guy leaped towards her as she dodged him. She kicked him in the thigh only to feel a roaring pain go up her leg. Skye sighed. He's metal. The guy grabbed her neck and threw her against the wall. He tightened his grip around her neck and didn't let go.
"Oh I see," Skye said between breathes. It was hard talking while being chocked. "You thought to single the weaker one off first." Skye tried to move her hand, aiming it at the right direction. She could hear Ward calling her name and pounding on the door. "Well let me tell you something." Skye leaned in so she was face to face with the guy, almost touching noses. "I'm not the weaker one." Then seismic waves came soaring out of her hand and towards the guy. He went soaring backwards and into the other wall. Skye grabbed an icer and shot him three times. He fell to the floor as Skye sighed. Ward managed to get the door open and realize there was a weaker version of deathlok lying on the floor. Then, a bomb went off in the plane, sending Skye flying out. She fell through the air. It took her a few seconds to realize what happened. She looked around and started screaming.
Ward looked at the hole in the plane and saw Skye fly out. "No, Skye! SKYE!"
He grabbed a para shoot and leaped after her. He soared down after her as she fell to the forest floor. She screamed after him as he got closer to her. It still wasn't close enough. He inched a little closer and reached out his hand. She reached for it as she fell. Their finger tips were centimeters apart. Finally, Skye felt the warmness of Ward's hand as he grabbed hers. He pulled the string as the para shoot flew out, making them stop falling and give them a floating feeling. Skye was still screaming. She wasn't wearing a para shoot. All she had was Ward's hand to hold onto. Ward pulled her up and wrapped his arms around her waist. She flung her arms around his neck and held on.
"Hey, hey, it's ok," Ward said and stroked her head. "I've got you, it's ok." He could feel her breathing as she didn't stop panting from shock. She sighed and buried her face into his shoulder.
"It's ok," Ward said again. "We're almost to the ground.
Then they heard an explosion. They both looked up to see their Quinn jet exploding.
"Well there's our ticket home," Ward said.
Skye groaned.

They finally reached the ground. Skye stepped onto the grass. Then she lost her balance and fell down. Ward sighed and helped her up.
"It's ok. You just fell from a plane in the middle of the air, you're going to forget how to walk."
Skye sighed. "Ward who was that guy?"
"I don't know. He was like a weaker version of deathlok.
"He strangled me." Skye blurted out.
Ward looked at her. "HE WHAT?!"
"Yup," Skye answered.
"Oh he's gonna get it," Ward said and clamped his fist to his hand.
"Ward," Skye said as she breathed hard. "I'm feeling a little light headed I think that guy did something while he was choking me....."
Skye fell forward as Ward caught her.
"Skye," Ward said as he picked her up, wedding style. He checked her pulse. Everything was fine. That's weird. Why would she pass out for no reason? What did that guy do to her? He carried her through the forest until he found a good looking spot where the trees had parted but they were still closed in. Ward gently laid Skye down in the grass while he started making a fire. Ward sighed. They were gonna be here a while.

Skye groaned and looked around. Whaaaaat.....happened?
"Skye," Ward greeted and helped her up to a sitting position. "I'm so happy you're up."
Skye looked around and saw the fire. She looked up and realized the sun was starting to set. "What happened?"
"After we got to the forest floor you felt light headed and passed out. You think it had something to do with the guy strangling you."
"Yeah our faces were really close and I think I breathed in some of his air. I think he carried some kind of knock out serum in him that I breathed in. He was made of metal. I think he was part robot, like deathlok."
"I'm just glad you're ok," Ward sighed and hugged her.
"How are we gonna get back?" Skye asked.
Ward sighed. "Our comps our out, our plane exploded, and we don't have any weapons. The team probably thinks we're dead."
Skye looked at him, already knowing the answer. "What are you saying?"
Ward sighed and didn't say anything for a minute. "There is no way back."

"Skye and Ward aren't picking up there comps," Coulson told the team in his office. "Their plane exploded. I think they made it out, knowing them. But, that means they are stranded somewhere in that forest below. We're gonna need a team to go look for them. Bobbi, Hunter. Suit up. May. Go with them. After you get Skye and Ward, come back before going to the Hydra base. We need them to rest first. We will fly back later."
"Yes sir," the three agents said and left to go find Skye and Ward.

"I'm sure our team will find us," Skye said and sat down next to Ward. The sun was crawling under the mountain, as the last of the light disappeared and the darkness settled in.
"Of course they will," Ward told her and wrapped his arm around her shoulder. She leaned against him and shivered. Besides the fire, she was still cold.
"So, we should probably do night watches," Skye sighed. "Who should take the first watch?"
"We don't have to do night watches," Ward replied. "I'll stay awake the whole night."
"Ward you don't have to-"
"No Skye. I'm almost your husband. I should take care of you."
Skye smiled. She wanted to argue with him more but knew she would lose. She knew Ward wasn't gonna let her win this fight. "Thanks. But in case you change your mind, feel free to wake me. We're in this together." Skye shivered again and yawned. She leaned her head against Ward and shivered again. And again. And again. Ward started heating her up with his powers and she didn't shiver the rest of the night. Finally she started dozing off but remembered she wasn't married yet and couldn't just fall asleep on him. She slowly scooted away from him and laid down by the fire. That's when she started shivering again.
"Here," Ward said and took off his jacket. He gently wrapped it around her.
"No Ward," Skye said and tried giving it back to him. But, he was stronger than her and wouldn't let her. "No Skye, you're cold. I have heating powers. I'll be fine."
Skye yawned and thanked him before dozing off into a light sleep.

Skye woke up to the smell of Ward's scent. She opened her eyes and remembered his jacket was around her. She sat up to see Ward looking at her from across the fire. Skye stared at him.
"Were you watching me sleep?!"
What, no. Well, maybe," Ward said. "I'm sorry Skye, you just look so beautiful. It's hard to keep my eyes off you."
Skye looked at Ward and smiled. "I love you too." Then she sat up and stretched. "So, has the team found a way to contact us, or-"
"No," Ward said sadly. Then he looked at Skye's sad expression. "But they'll find a way!" He said cheerfully.
Skye sighed. "Ward I'm not a child. You don't have to treat me like one. I'm your fiancé. Don't just say things to keep me happy. If you don't think the team's gonna find us soon, then don't say they are. I just need to know." Skye looked into Ward's eyes as he looked back into hers. His eyes looked weak. He had stayed up all night, after staying up all day the day before. He had black and blue circles around his eyes, and he had bags under them. But there was something else. Something in his look. Finally Ward started gaping for words. Skye noticed tears building up in his eyes. Finally his head fell forward and he let it hang low. Skye immediately rushed to him and grabbed his head in her arms.
"Oh baby, what's wrong?" Skye asked as Ward buried his face into her hair.
He didn't answer for a while. Skye didn't want to rush him, so she just sat there and comforted him. She stroked her fingers through his hair as his quick breathes finally slowed. He finally looked up at her and into her eyes.
"The team's not coming back," Ward said.
Skye looked at him in horror.
