Chapter Thirty-Three Reunion
It had been three days since Skye had gotten shot and she still hadn't woken up. Ward had been by her bedside 24/7. He had even slept in a chair next to her bedside. Today was the third day, and he was still there with her.
"Skye," he said and held her hands on the bed. "Please wake up. I love you."
She tossed in the bed but her eyes didn't budge.
"Ward," Coulson greeted as he knocked on the wall. "Why don't you go back to the base and get some actual sleep. I can watch Skye."
"No," Ward replied stubbornly. "I'm staying here."
Coulson sighed. He walked over to a chair on the other side of the bed and looked at Skye.
"How is she doing?"
"She's barely moved at all, but she hasn't stopped breathing," Ward said.
Coulson nodded and stroked Skye's head. Then he got up. "I have to go. Call me if she wakes up."
❃
Ward set a glass of water on Skye's nightstand. He sat back down and reached for Skye's hands.
"Please," he begged. "Wake up. I need you to Skye. For me."
He looked at her. Nothing.
Tears filled his eyes as he buried his head in his and Skye's hands. He then felt someone stroke his tired, weary face. He slowly looked up to see Skye looking at him, smiling.
"Why are you crying?" She asked. "You knew I was going to wake up for you."
Ward grinned at Skye and threw his arms around her. She buried her head in Ward's shoulder and took in his comforting scent. They both had tears in their eyes, overwhelmed with joy.
❃
Two weeks later Skye could walk and run again and was packing her stuff to leave the hospital.
"You wanted to see me?" Ward asked.
Skye turned around and set her stuff down. "Yes." Then she paused for a while. She sighed. "Ever since I got shot, again, it made me realize that life's too short to be scared or traumatized. And I could have died Ward, and we would never have gotten married or had kids or worked for Shield together ever again. And that robot incident really separated us. But it shouldn't have because you tried your hardest to protect me from Hydra even if it risked your life. And I don't know why I pushed you away and neglected you because you take such good care of me," Skye went on with tears in her eyes. "And I don't even deserve you anymore after the way I treated you. I wouldn't even let you hold my hand. And I shouldn't have pushed you away, because I love you, so much."
Ward looked down at Skye, his precious rookie, about to cry. He grabbed her head and kissed her. She kissed him back, as they both remembered how in love they were with each other. They stopped as their foreheads touched and their eyes were closed.
"And I just wanted to say I'm sorry," Skye finished. "For pushing you away after all you did for me."
"You're sorry?!" Ward asked. "I should be the one who should be saying sorry! I yelled at you Skye! You were just traumatized and I should have given you space."
"Well I'm glad you didn't," Skye smiled. "I'm glad you forced me to realize what I was missing out on."
Ward grinned back. "Hey, I noticed something missing on your finger," he said as he felt her fingers. "And then I heard that you wanted me to ask you to marry me again."
"Oh?!" Skye asked excitedly. "How did you hear that?!"
"Oh you know," Ward said playfully. "When I was just ease dropping in the shadows on your conversation with Bobbi."
They both started laughing.
"So," Ward went on. "I did a little snooping around in your room and I found this."
He got on one knee and held a ring with one hand and held Skye's hand with the other." Skye gasped.
"Skye Johnson, will you marry me?" Ward asked.
Skye sighed and thought for a minute. "Ummmmm........I guess so." She joked.
Ward started laughing and slipped the ring on her finger. "You guess so?! Is that all I get after all we've been through?!"
Skye smiled and nodded. Ward reached down right above and behind Skye's knees and picked her up. She started laughing and wrapped her arms around Ward's neck.
"Words mean nothing anyway," she said.
Ward grinned and kissed her. They stopped and looked into each other's eyes.
Skye smiled. "Coulson's gonna be so happy we're back together."
Ward grinned. "Let's go tell him right now."
He set Skye back down and grabbed her bags for her.
❃
They walked into the Shield base together to see Bobbi practically tackle Skye.
"Oh my gosh Skye!" She yelled and threw her arms around her. "I'm so happy you're ok! We missed you so much I was praying so hard for you! I'm so glad your home-"
"Ward and I are getting married!" Skye blurted out excitedly.
Bobbi gasped and looked between the two of them. "Finally! It took you guys three months! Coulson's gonna freak! How did you ask her?!" Bobbi asked.
"Well," Ward began. "I snooped through her room until I found the ring and then I went to see her in the hospital. Then she started apologizing and crying to me about how sorry she was that she pushed me away and after an hour of begging for my forgiveness-"
"Excuse me?!" Skye asked.
Bobbi started laughing.
Ward sighed. "Fine. We both apologized for what we did and then I asked her to marry me again and she said "Ummmmm I guess so"."
They all started laughing.
"You guys are something else," Bobbi said. "Your story is very interesting."
"We better go tell Coulson," Skye said.
"Nope!" Someone said from the shadows.
Then Coulson walked out with his journal. He finished writing the last bit. "You don't have to go tell me! I already got it!"
"Oh yeah I forgot, you record our daily lives in your Skyeward journal," Ward explained.
Coulson nodded. "You guys!!! I'm so happy for you! I can't wait till you get married! I'm going to go call up the church, pastor, wedding cake baker, and everyone else right now!"
