1- Oops!

A long summer just passed by from the confusing status between my eighth grade crush and me back in South Korea.

I lived there since I was three was when I moved there, till the end of grade ten.

It was the last dance of the year that Thursday and I all I did in that white formal dress was slouching on the food table by myself as I intensely stare at my crush dancing with other girls that liked him. They were all flirting with him as they pull on his suspenders and put their arms around his neck.

I wished I could have slapped them and duct tape their lips to the windows in that cafeteria. But I'm the quiet and nice girl in my group of friends so how would I do so?

BTW, did I mention the fact that those girls were my friends? Yeah, they were my fucking friends and they knew that I liked him for the past 5-6 ish years straight. No side crushes and mixed crushes, just him. What an idiot, I know!

I kept glancing at his hot, smexy body as he danced like a gleaming, sly fox in the moonlight. He shone from the other guys. He was special and all I saw was him. His hair was not slicked back though it was left fluffy and thick from his faded sides. He wasn't very tall but had a medium height so any girl would be able to dance with him. He recently dyed his hair the night before so it had a stunning red glimmer to his old, dull black hair. His outfit wasn't a blank shirt and a old flannel, but it was a ironed, white buttoned up blouse and black suspenders. He was stunning.

Soon, the dance was over. Thank goodness because I felt overwhelming. I felt overwhelming because I planned to confess to him. And I was a very shy girl, very blunt too. My mind was a volcano, waiting erupt the words to his ears: "I like you!" Yet, I was so hesitant due to conclusions and theories of what he could say.

I walked out of the cafeteria and went to the painted wooden benches to rest. I will do it. I was determined to do so. I stood up solidly and began to walk towards his direction.

He was alone, sipping on a cup of the punch from the dance. He sat on the picnic table and took off his suspenders. He looked up from his cup and waved at me, grinning from ear to ear.

I mumbled under my breath as I stood in front of him.

"What's wrong?" He tilted his head like a confusing puppy.

"I need... tell you something." I smiled. No worries, Miracle. Just, say and go away. Easy as that! You've seen it in movies, k-dramas, animes, and mangas! Just chillax!

"So, what's up?" He questioned me.

I jumped on the table and sat right next to him. I motioned him to give me his ear. He agreed right away and leaned in towards me.

"I-I like you."

Holy macaroni! I said it! I said it! It was all great until he said this:

"I know."

Like bruh. What am I suppose to do with a "I know"?!!  What the hell did it mean? Was I too obvious? Was I too creepy?

Afterwards, we sort of sat there awkwardly. No talking at all. It was as if each of us were screaming for our guardians to pick us up in our minds. Finally, my mother picked me up and asked about the dance and how he was sitting next to me.

"I DON'T KNOW ANYMORE!" I screamed as I slammed the car door. I fasten my seatbelt and apologized quickly to my mother for making such a loud noise. I started pulling my hair angrily and pouted so much.

"Boy trouble? With that boy from before?" She asked as she drove.

"Yes... it's something I don't EVER want to encounter with AGAIN." I exclaimed with rage. "Okay, okay. No talking?"

She gave me a shrugging look. "Sure."

The drive home was filled with flashbacks. I thought about how we said bye. But... We didn't even say bye! I was so angry and confused with myself.

I spent the whole summer in a dismal due to my disastrous confession, my grandparents' tragic death, and I had to move.

My grandparents fell very ill that summer. It was as if their bodies ached in such pain, together. Very soon after, my parents and I mourned, attending their funeral. They had such a compatible bond, to the fact they even died together.

My father is American and my mother is South Korean. We decided to live in Seoul first because my mother wanted us(the three of us) to live and care for my grandparents before they could die.

The thought of coming to a foreign country, to the US, frightens me. My parents told me we had no more business in Seoul so why should we stay. Being the obedient child I am, I agreed without complaints.

I didn't really struggle learning English because I secretly spoke it with my father and mother when my grandparents weren't there. Supposedly, they wanted to have me keep the Korean language in my head because some mixed-raced children tend forget their Asian language when they have English too. I don't really understand this stereotype for mixed-raced children but I tried to balance my knowledge of Korean and English.

We were moving to California and I will be attending a public high school near my home. My parents were very worried for my well-being that very morning on the first day of school.

"I know a lot of English and Korean." I told my parents.

As my mother elegantly placed her earrings, she said, "I know, sweetie but high school in a new environment is harder than you think it is."

"That's right. You need to cooperate carefully around others or they will hurt you!" My father joked.

"Haha, very funny, Dad." I chuckled with exaggeration.

My mother turned around and made a disgusted face to me. "Did you even brush your hair?" She turned back, facing her mirror and began applying light foundation on her face.

"Yes, Mom." I shrugged as I took a quick glance through her mirror to see my hair. But, it wasn't messy. It was curly. "What's wrong with my curly hair?"

"Straighten your hair! It's not formal for the first day of school." My mother stood up with her lipstick in her hand. "Now! You have ten minutes before your father drives you! Hurry."

"Aish, fine!" I grabbed her straightener and jogged down the stairs to my own bathroom because no one else uses it. Quickly, I plugged it in the core and pressed the on switch. The heat began and I grabbed it to begin straightening my hair.

After finishing, I ran up to my room to grab my
backpack that was sitting on my chair. I scanned around quickly, searching for anything I missed. I quickly dusted off my uniform to smoothen it out and slung my backpack on my shoulders.

"Mom! I'm gonna walk now!" I shouted loud enough for her to hear without disrupting the neighborhood's morning, mellow noise of business students and workers getting ready for work.

Both of my parents yelled back, "Have a nice day!" then some giggles followed after. I rolled my eyes with a smirk and gently closed the door, leaving it locked.

As I skipped a bit due the over excitement of American high schools, I looked around to see the other sidewalks with groups of high school students, enjoying themselves. I sighed to myself and wondered when I will meet good friends and become close to them.

Oh well, it's a new start. It's gonna be the best day ever! I clenched my fists, spreading my arms, slightly wide and grinned happily. "Come on, Miracle! You got this!"

"You almost punched me. What do you mean it's a miracle?" A deep, annoyed voice tailed right behind me.

I turned around to see a tall boy with one earpod in his left ear and the other one dancing around on his black hoodie. He seemed very displeased, probably because I was in his way. He seemed like a high schooler too and I smiled, saying, " Are you going to Unijiwood too?" He can be my next friend!

"Yes, but can you answer my question quickly? We need to get to school." He motioned me to continue walking while he stays on the left side of me.

"Oh! Introduction! Of course in the How to make Friends 101 book, I completely forgot!" I gently flicked my forehead. "Hi, my name is Miracle!"

"I'm Sehun." He gave me a confused look and replied, "You're a bit bubbly and jumpy."

"Sorry, I'm just really excited for American high school! I came from Seoul! I'm a new junior, how about you?"

"I'm also a junior. You're Korean like me?"

"YOU'RE KOREAN?!" I started blabbing in Korean and I was more happier than before!

"Yes. You need to start being so bubbly or people will hurt you, okay?" He places his hand on my head, telling me to calm down.

"Okay, okay! You and I are just gonna be the bestest of besties!"

"Yeah, yeah, keep telling that to yourself." He joked.

"I know! I will!" I gleamed.

"It was a joke." He cleared his throat.

"Oh... I don't understand the majority of English jokes." I pouted a bit.

"You'll learn. You're already good enough with your English, just lighten up." He thought a little and shook his head, "actually you shouldn't lighten up at some parts. We're here."

We both laughed heavily. Woohoo! That walk was so quick! We got more than enough minutes to spend. "Gotta go, Sehun! Bye!" I grinned again.

"Hey, wait." Sehun stopped me.

I walked to him and asked what's wrong. "Your schedule, do you know it? If not, I could walk you-"

"Mhmm! Of course! I printed it out and it's taped securely on the front of my binder! I'm super prepared!"

"Oh. That's good. Now go away." He walked away in the other direction and put the other earpod in his right ear.

I began walking the way I was walking until a hand pat my shoulder.

A boy with a guitar on his back with headphones around his neck, greeted me with such joy. "Hi! Are you new?"

"Oh hello! My name is Miracle! I'm a junior."

"I'm Park Chanyeol! You met my friend Sehun, right?"

"Yes, I have! He's pretty nice! You are too! You must be Korean too."

"Oh, thanks. And, yup I'm Korean! A lot of people don't like how I smile a lot. I really appreciate it!" He rubbed his nape, blushing.

"Oh it's no problem! Have a good day!" I waved to him.

"Uh," he giggled, "I'm heading the same way."

"Oops! Let's go then!" I hooked my arm around his neck.

His ears became really red. "U-Uh... is this a bit too comfortable?"

"Oh, I apologize!" I let go of my neck around him. "Before, I was comfortable with my friends back in Seoul so I was used to it."

"No worries. I don't think you should do that around Sehun. He'll be a bit grouchy." He winked at me.

"Huh?" I made a confused look to him.

"Oh nothing. I thought you like Sehun. I think everyone thinks you guys are already a thing. I don't think Jennie would be happy with these rumors spreading around the school." He chuckled a bit.

"You fluent English speaking people talk very weird." I laughed a bit. "Who's Jennie?"

"You'll know." He smiled, but it wasn't that smile he gave me when we first met.
