Several Hours Later...

It was almost time for Katie to return home and Duke still hadn't returned.

"Come on Duke..." Max murmured, shuffling his paws nervously. The Jack Russell terrier was starting to think that something bad had happened to his brother somewhere along his travels. He had begun pacing in front of the door. As he walked back and forth, he would occasionally look up at the clock hanging on the wall. Katie would be home any second now.

All of the sudden, Max heard someone at the window. Whipping his head around, he sighed with relief to see that it was Duke. The giant mutt looked tired as he padded over to his own bed. Without saying a word to Max about where his travels had taken him that day or why he had been gone for so long, Duke flopped down on the bed and was asleep within seconds of contact.

"Welcome back," Max muttered, feeling a little suspicious. Before he could give the situation at paw anymore thought, he heard Katie at the door.
