Eventually it was almost time for the humans to begin returning home from whatever they do during the day. Max and Duke were walking back to their apartment building after hanging out with Patty all day.

"So, you forgive me for following you?" Max questioned. He looked up at the bigger dog. Returning the gaze, Duke replied, "Max, you don't need to apologize to me or Patty. If anything, I should be saying sorry for not telling you."

"But I have been so mad with you for the last few days and I followed you when I should have stayed out of your business," Max pointed out. Bowing his head in shame, he murmured, "I was just worried about you."

"I'm sorry Max, it's just..." Duke mumbled. Sighing heavily, the Newfoundland mix continued, "I love being here with you and Katie and our friends. But I do sometimes miss the old days in Brooklyn. So when I saw Patty at the dog park the other day, I was just so happy to see someone I knew when I was a puppy."

"You miss your old life, I get it" Max murmured. Nudging the Jack Russell terrier playfully with his nose, Duke replied, "I do miss it, but I would never give up my current life. I'm here to stay." Smiling, Max held up his paw as he commented, "I'm glad to hear that. No more secrets between us?"

"No more secrets," Duke agreed, bumping his paw against Max's as a sign of his promise.
