(: May :)
I look up to my sister because I wanna be just like her when I grow up. I know she gets pretty annoyed of me pretty easily, but I still love her. I guess it's just that since we've gone through everything together, I feel like she's my mom.
Ever since the day when Mom and Dad went missing, I sort of gave her all of my trust and looked up to her. It's been that way ever since. I have made a few friends over the years, but I spent more time with Rose than any of them. Rose has lots of friends and sometimes doesn't have time for me.
I still remember the first night in the orphanage when I woke Rose up crying and asked her if we would ever have parents again. At that point, I hoped the answer would be no. I would much rather be with Rose forever than some strangers who I would have to call "Mom" and "Dad". No one could ever replace them.
"May, you ready to go back inside?" My sister asked me. We had a tradition. We weren't allowed to, but every night we would sneak outside to where we have recess. We always lie down in the grass and watch the stars. It's always fun because we try to make shapes out of them. We always end up laughing at the funny things we see.
"Okay," I replied as I slowly stood up. My sister could tell I was cold, so she folded the old blanket and wrapped it around me. "Haha... I'm a May taco!"
My sister laughed. "Yes, you are a May taco. Let's hurry up and get inside before we're caught again," She said as we tiptoed through the doors.
It was almost eleven when we got back into our room. A few kids were awake still when we arrived. "Snuck out again? I swear, one of these days she'll catch you again and you'll be punished," Harper rolled her eyed and explained.
Rose rolled her's back. "Whatever. There are no real punishments here, anyway. The worst that'll happen is they put you on the list for no desert that week, and I'd rather not eat that nastiness."
Harper sighed and went back to bed. Rose tucked me in. We took out our photo of Mom and Dad. The only one we had. We stared into their eyes and sighed. "I miss them," Rose said to me.
I looked up at her. "Weren't you only five when they disappeared? That was ten years ago."
She nodded. "Yeah, but still have some faint memories. The way mom laughed, the way dad joked... anyway, it's time for you to go to bed."
I frowned. "Are you going to bed?" I didn't want to feel left out.
She shrugged. "Maybe. But it doesn't matter." She kissed my forehead and set the photo back in the drawer. "G'nite. Love ya. Now get some rest."
I nodded sleepily. "Okay."
I really wish I would have met Mom and Dad. They seemed like great people. I asked Rose all the time where they went, but that seems to be the one question she doesn't have an answer to... yet it's the one question I want answered the most.
