9》Falling
"Falling is just another way to fly."

Something was off this morning. He felt it as soon as he woke up from his peaceful slumber, escaping his serene dreams and coming back to reality. He opened his eyes, trying to explain this inexplicable feeling that just wouldn't let him go.
Jungkook looked around; everything looked the same. And yet, there was something missing. The typical sounds he had grown accustomed to hearing in the morning, weren't there anymore.
No loud laughing from Hoseok and Jin, no music playing from Jimin's megaspeaker or the familiar voices playing on TV. There wasn't even the sound of cluttering bowls of cereal, or of arguments about who would wash the dishes.
He got up and stumbled through the door, trying to shake off his sleep, as he clumsily made his way to the main area. Hoseok and Jimin were nowhere to be seen or heard, but his mood brightened up when he spotted Jin sitting on the couch, facing the turned-off TV.
"Good morning Jin hyung!" Jungkook chirped, hugging him from behind, before vaulting himself onto the sofa like a professional athlete.
Jin looked at him sluggishly, and for a second Jungkook was truly shocked. What had happened to mister worldwide handsome? His bloodshot eyes were drooping low, their beautiful glow gone. His pink hair was tangled and his face was paler than usual. His plump lips were dry and chapped, like as if he had forgotten his chapstick. In other words, Jin looked extremely tired and worn out, as if he hadn't slept for days.
"Morning..." Jin replied hoarsely, his voice cracking as he tried to sound somewhat human.
"Jin, what's wrong? You look terrible. Are you sick?" Jungkook asked worriedly, pressing his palm onto his hyung's forehead to check his temperature.
Jin looked him in his eyes like as if he was trying to tell him something, which irritated Jungkook. Did he look like he could read eyes or something?!
"I had a nightmare last night." Jin managed to choke out.
Jungkook's features softened and he shuffled closer, comfortingly draping an arm over his shoulder. "Was it that bad?" He asked, speaking quietly to make sure Jin wouldn't become even more stressed out than he already looked.
Jin suddenly grabbed his hands urgently, twisting Jungkook around so that he was forced to look into his frightened eyes.
"I was on top of a really high building, it was cold and windy. I saw my reflection in the windows. I-I was you, Jungkook, I looked exactly like you. I was somehow pushed to the edge by an invisible force or something, and I fell from the building. It was horrible, it felt like I was falling for ages. The wind was like an army of knives, cutting at me wherever it could. I was so scared because it felt so real, and I was waiting for myself to land on the ground and wake up.
But when the ground came nearer, it opened up and I continued falling. The air was getting hotter and hotter, and I felt like I was suffocating. And then I landed in a pit of fire, and I felt myself getting burned alive and watched with my- or your eyes, as my skin turned red and then black. I saw how it crackled and popped while getting roasted by the intense flames! It hurt so badly, and then I woke up."
Jungkook's eyes were as wide as saucers. That was a nightmare he hoped he would never experience. He at least would have been able to extinguish the fire with his water powers. Wait, was it even possible to extinguish fire from hell?
"And you couldn't sleep anymore afterwards?"
"No!" Jin cried out. "I kept on thinking about it, it scared me so much."
Jungkook suddenly remembered this important meeting he had today, and stood up to get ready. "Umm Jin, sorry to leave you here like this, but I gotta go now. I'll bring you some ramen later to make up for it, okay?"
He shot the elder an apologetic look and pushed his guilt away, before walking back to his room. Jin's eyes followed him, and he looked extremely unhappy.
"Jungkook!" Jin cried deliriously, "Please don't go! Please, I think you might get hurt." He took a deep breath before continuing. "I know I sound crazy, but please believe me. I think you're in danger. I swear I'm not insane, but you shouldn't go out!"
Jungkook knitted his brows in frustration. He understood that Jin was traumatised, but did he really have the audacity to think that Jungkook was in danger? Dreams meant absolutely nothing. They were just dreams afterall.
"It's just a dream." Jungkook muttered.
"No! I swear it means something. Please don't go out JK, I don't want you to die." Jin pleaded, looking so distressed that it tugged at Jungkook's heartstrings. He felt bad for his friend, yet wondered if Jin needed professional help, because he sounded a little crazy.
"Okay Jin, I'll stay away from any high buildings. Just calm down please, everything is alright! I have to go out though, because this meeting is important."
He went off and put on a grey business suit, before leaving the apartment. Jin was still sitting on the couch, looking at the TV screen with glassy eyes, as a single tear rolled down his cheek.
------------------------------------------
"How'd your date go?" A yawning Yoongi asked sleepily, lazying around on the couch in Taehyung's office.
Taehyung let out a slight growl and then turned away. Why did that lazy sloth have to ask him something like that on the most hectic day of the week?
"It's been a week since then Yoongi, isn't it a little too late to ask me that?" Taehyung said calmly, trying to not let his annoyance show.
"Well I wasn't there afterwards to squeeze all information out of you, so I just had to ask once I saw you again." Yoongi answered innocently, letting a catty grin creep up on his face.
Taehyung raised a brow and crossed his arms. "And where have you been all this time?"
"Sleeping."
Worldlessly, Taehyung adjusted his reading glasses and collected his papers, hurriedly stuffing them into his briefcase.
Yoongi studied him for a second and then chuckled. "I didn't know you were into guys." He said with interest.
Taehyung rolled his eyes. "I'm into alot of things."
"Your hair is brown now." Yoongi continued, knowing that he was getting on Taehyung's nerves. Oh how he enjoyed taunting the younger one and getting away with it.
"Did you dye it for him, Lucifer?"
"No." Taehyung hissed, "I don't do things for other people. I wanted to get rid of that ugly pale angel-blonde color that I didn't even want in the first place." He huffed, while searching a cabinet for something.
"And don't call me Lucifer. My name in this life is Kim Taehyung, so you should just shut the fuck up, okay?"
Yoongi laughed and rolled off the sofa. "Wow, you've changed alot. Please don't tell me it's because of the boy. What's got your mood so bad today? You used to love your name."
Taehyung's eyes went completely black for a second. "I loved my name, until it reminded me yet again of the one who gave me that damned name... Satan or Taehyung is fine, just don't let that other name escape your mouth again, understood?" He said with contempt.
Yoongi just nodded and dozed off once more, while Taehyung angrily slammed the door, as he left the office. This meeting was going to be important, and... possibly dangerous. Almost all of his business partners were potentially dangerous. Not to him though, considering that he was basically bulletproof.
The other two however weren't bulletproof, and letting them die would completely ruin the prophecy. But Taehyung was confident that nothing would happen to him and his companions, afterall they had trained well and were more than capable of defending themselves.
He tapped the metal walls of the elevator impatiently, as he counted the levels before he reached the ground floor. On the ground floor, he hurried to the entrance, on the way being greeted by his secretary.
Outside waited his sleek black Maserati, shining like the obsidian beauty that she was. He adjusted his red silk tie, as one of the hotel employees opened the car door, and then he stepped inside. Jungkook and Namjoon were already sitting there, and from what he could tell: They were nervous.
"Good afternoon gentlemen, how are we feeling today?" He said lightly, his mood becoming better as he thought of the meeting turning out well and having billions of won more, which he would gloriously bath in.
Their driver, or chauffeur as that french fool prefered to be called, sped up and pulled out of the driveway and into the street, elegantly steering them towards their destination.
"Not that great." Namjoon admitted, "You told us this meeting would be important, but I want to know what is expecting us."
Taehyung smiled and his eyes glittered, as he thought of the money he was going to make today. "It's a big business deal involving 64 billion won." He answered, comfortably leaning back in his heated leather seat. The weather outside was a little too chilly for his liking, but his chauffeur Pierre had thankfully brought his fur coat along for him.
"WHAT?" Jungkook squeaked, as he looked at his boss incredulously. Taheyung loved how Jungkook's eyes always widened when he was in shock. "64 billion won? That's more money than my whole family could make in a 1000 years!"
"What's this deal about?" Namjoon asked nervously, fidgeting with his green tie.
"Weapons, firearms to be specific."
"But this deal is legal... Right?" Jungkook asked, suddenly getting the feeling that this was all horribly wrong. Taehyung wasn't in the mafia... Or was he? If working for him had seemed bad before, it seemed even worse now.
Taehyung gave him a serious look that told him to stop asking questions. "Whether it is legal or not, should be none of your concern. You two will not interfere in our negotiations. Watch and learn how deals are made, and stay alert: Business partners can be unpredictable. Behind the mask of the composed and clean business man, often hides a cold hearted and greedy monster, who will not hesitate to kill you if it helps him achieve his goals."
Namjoon and Jungkook exchanged worried glances.
"So it isn't legal then..." Namjoon muttered, loud enough that Taehyung could hear it. He just smiled grimly at his words and looked outside.
"What if you anger them and they shoot us like in the movies? What if we die?" Jungkook asked meekly, his voice rather quiet and frightened. He looked at Taehyung with fear.
"We will not die. Not today." He replied with determination, "I know we won't."
The black Maserati made a swift turn and then swerved into the driveway of a highrise building, that looked like every other one in Seoul. It didn't stand out very much, in the endless sea of glass and metal frames.
The driver left the car and opened the door for Taehyung and the two others, handing him his fur coat. Taehyung motioned for the two to follow him, as a group of body guards approached, forming a protective circle around them.
Jungkook immediately felt relieved and a little safer. Once they entered the building, he realized that he was inside the Grand Hilton Hotel. He always thought that gangster business deals were made in shady places like abandoned warehouses, so if this was held in a hotel conference room, then maybe it was legal afterall?
There was no time to admire the beauty of the luxurious golden lobby, as they were escorted to an elevator in a secluded corner of the hotel. Jungkook counted the floors before they reached their destination. He didn't know that conference rooms existed on higher floors, such as the 33rd floor they stopped on.
Taehyung must have noticed his surprise, because he chuckled before leading the group down the hallway. "We always reserve special conference rooms far away from any prying ears or curious hotel guests. The further away from the hotel rooms, the better." He explained.
They reached the large mahogany doors of a conference room with the ominous number 13 plastered on a golden plaque above it. The conference room was long and brightly illuminated by floor to ceiling glass windows. Inside was a large glass table that stretched to the very back of the room. Countless chairs surrounded both sides of the table, and they were filled by at least 15 men.
Jungkook felt nervous again, as his antisocialness began to make itself present. He must have looked so stupid he thought, wiping his bangs away like a fool and gnawing his bottom lip nervously. For a while he didn't know how to react, frozen in place like a deer caught in headlights.
He shuddered when he heard Taehyung's deep voice whisper into his ear and felt his firm grip on his shoulders, motioning him forward to stop him from blocking the door. "Shhh, it's alright. Sit down on the chair to my right, okay?"
Jungkook swallowed and nodded, following Taehyung and Namjoon to the table. At the head of it were three chairs, which he assumed was reserved for them. He wished he hadn't looked at the other businessmen, because their looks weren't pleasing at all. Some looked at him with curiosity, others didn't seem to approve of the fact that he was placed at the head of the table and a few had piercing eyes, glaring at him like as if he was a piece of meat that they'd rip into pieces in mere seconds.
He mustered a straight face and sat down in his designated chair, keeping his head high. He wouldn't let himself get intimated by these men. Deep down Jungkook knew he was better than all of them.
As the meeting went by, he was mostly absent minded, thinking about Lalisa's sweet kisses and how her eyes sparkled when he told her how beautiful she was. Right now he just wanted to be in her arms and forget about the world around him.
He turned his attention back to the meeting. From what he had caught from the intense discussions, Taehyung produced firearms and those men came in the name of some big druglord he had never heard of. But he had understood that they wanted to buy a five year supply of weapons, and that they were in the middle of negotiating the price.
"No! 64 billion Won is my final offer. Take it or leave it, you know damn well that I produce the best weapons in the industry." Taehyung bellowed, his loud and mighty voice echoing through the room and ringing in Jungkook's ears.
In the corner of his eyes, he saw some of the men looking at each other and smirking. He turned to look at Namjoon, who had caught it too. They both were puzzled as to what was going on.
One of the men took a sip of water and then set his glass down on the table with a loud thump. He stood up and gave Taehyung the most powerful look he could muster. Even though he was several meters away, his gaze was hard and fierce.
"It'd be in your best interest, not to push this too far, Mr. Kim. Because keep this in mind, we know exactly what you are." He said, his smirk widening when he saw Taehyung lean back in shock. Taehyung was confused: None of his business partners had ever known about his true identity. He hoped that the man was just bluffing, and wiped the surpise off his face, returning to his cold and hard stature.
Jungkook and Namjoon looked at each other again with questioning faces. What did the man mean? Did he know that Taehyung had powers?
"I do not know what you are talking about." Taehyung replied with a low voice, clearly on edge.
The man laughed slyly. "Well maybe now you'll understand." He chuckled darkly, as the rest of his men stood up in unison. Some of them unsheathed long katanas, which emitted a blinding white light, while others pointed glowing white pistols at Taehyung and his men.
It suddenly dawned on him: Angels. Of course he had been stupid enough to walk into their trap. Only angels could have planned something like this and used their persuasive charm to make nothing seem suspicious at all. Even the devil himself wasn't immune against the quirks of his former family. He should have seen it coming.
Jungkook and Namjoon were up now too, ready to attack as they stood in position, their eyes calmly scanning their enemies. On the inside, adrenaline pumped through their bodies, making them highly alert. The bodyguards on the other hand looked frightened to death, cowering in the corners of the room and shooting each other panicked looks.
Jungkook's heart was beating too fast to comprehend. He had never killed anyone and never planned to do it, but if these weird men with their star wars accessories would even try to attack him, he knew he would have no choice but to fight back, even if it meant death for that unfortunate person.
"What do you guys want? A lower price?" Taehyung spat, clearly not enjoying his family reunion. At least he didn't know these angels personally.
The man just smiled evilly, in a way that fit no angel. Too bad Jungkook and Namjoon had no idea that these men they were dealing with, weren't just ordinary humans.
"I want to kill you, Kim Taehyung."
------------------------------------------
As soon as he heard the first gunshots, Jungkook immediately flung the glass table into the air, throwing it against the men with full power. The glass met some of the bullets midair, cracking and releasing a rain of shards on them.
Behind him he heard the agonizing scream of one of the bodyguards, the unlucky fellow had probably been hit by a bullet that hadn't been stopped by the table.
Some of the men stealthily dodged the glass table, while others were buried beneath thousands of sharp glass shards, their skin and flesh cut open, soaking the polished floor with pools of blood.
There was no time for regrets, as he felt Taehyung grip his and Namjoon's arm, and pull them towards the door. "We need to leave. Now." He hissed urgently.
Two men blocked the door, pointing their glowing blades at the trio. Behind him, Namjoon heard the bodyguards fighting, and he knew they were losing. In a surge of anger about these innocent lives being taken, he let out an explosive ball of fire, which incinerated the wooden door and the two men blocking it. All that was left was a pile of ash and two charred bodies.
He wanted to turn around and help the guards, but Taehyung had already grabbed his hand and was dragging him and Jungkook outside and into the hallway. Jungkook let out a scream when he felt a searing hot bullet graze his shoulder, it had thankfully not gone further than his skin, but it was burning like a wildfire. Never before had he come this close to a bullet in his whole life.
Ignoring the pain, he turned around again and hurled all the chairs in the room into the air, flinging them at his enemies, which he hoped would buy him some time. He ran after the others, who were running towards the stairs, only to stop abruptly.
"What's wrong? Why aren't you going down?" Jungkook panicked, looking back and forth between the conference room and the stairs that led down towards their freedom.
"There are more armed men on the floor below, they're everywhere." Taheyung answered, looking around calculatingly. He had quickly come up with a backup escape plan and he hoped that it would work.
"Just teleport us or something!" Namjoon hissed, trying not to let his frustration and aggression take over.
Taehyung groaned and looked at the floor with dismay. "I can only transport two people at a time, and afterwards I'd need time to recharge. One of you would be left alone to die, and you wouldn't want that, would you?"
"So what now?" Namjoon asked. He saw more men leaving the conference room and approaching them, looking determined to kill them all. He sent a wave of fire towards the room, which knocked them back and left them stunned on the floor with severe burns. He didn't want to kill them, he really didn't, but he had to defend himself somehow.
"I have informed Suga telepathically, if we make it to one of the large balconys two floors above us, he can pick us up with a helicopter. Until then we must defend ourselves." Taehyung said quickly, running up the stairs and onto higher ground.
Namjoon was about to follow, when he felt a sharp sting in his leg, followed by immense burning pain, that reminded him of that time as a child, when he had accidentally put his hand in the hot oven. He collapsed on the stairs, groaning and wincing in pain, as he saw a deep gash in his thigh, blood steadily flowing out and soaking his pants. The wound was burning, in a way he imagined his fire would burn others.
One of the men stood above him triumphantly, raising his katana above Namjoon's chest for the final blow. Before he could respond with a defensive attack, his aggressor was swept off his feet and skidded along the floor several metres away. His body was buried beneath a gigantic chunk of concrete with rusty iron bars sticking out of it.
Behind Namjoon was Taehyung, who had ripped out the chunk of concrete from one of the walls, and flung it towards the angel. He and Jungkook each placed an arm of Namjoon's over their shoulders, and helped him up the stairs. He whimpered in pain and gritted his teeth in order to stay strong.
Once they had risen up two floors, they headed for one of the big outdoor balconys, going as fast as they could possibly move with Namjoon's injury. While Taehyung stood guard and looked out for the helicopter, Jungkook lay Namjoon down on the floor and stopped his blood flow by manipulating the liquid within his blood, forcing it to stay inside his body. Next, he ripped off some cloth from his suit and used it to bandage his friend.
"J-Jungkook. You guys could have left me there, but you didn't... Thank you." Namjoon whispered softly, incredibly grateful for their help.
"I couldn't watch another person die, especially not you Namjoon." Jungkook answered, squeezing his hand and giving him a reassuring smile. They had grown closer in the past few weeks, the incident at the club had been long forgotten.
"They're here!" Taehyung warned. He stood up and started breaking off multiple chunks from the building's outer wall, ready to throw it at his enemies. The angels he now saw, seemed stronger and more experienced; they wouldn't be as easy to take down as the others.
Two of them came at Taehyung, while the others ran at Jungkook with terrifying speed. He began to realize that maybe these men weren't human afterall. He raised a bunch of benches and vases from the balcony into the air, and hurled at them at the men with full force. They cut through the objects flying towards them with vicious strength and perfection, completely unharmed as they weilded their katanas like masters.
Determined to protect his friend, Jungkook decided to use his water powers. He summoned a gigantic wave and sent it towards them, which didn't stop them either. He was shocked when they deflected the wave with their katanas and sent it back at him.
It was too late to react when the wave hit him.
He fell from the ledge of the balcony, remembering Jin's warning. He should have trusted his friend. He should have listened to him. He hadn't believed him. But now it was too late to change the past.
He knew this was the end of the road for him, he was going to die. He would never see his beloved family again; his friends and Lalisa. All Jungkook wished, was that Namjoon and Taehyung survived.
A single tear escaped his eyes, before he closed them and accepted his fate.
He was falling
And kept on falling
And falling
