Chapter Fourty Five
"What the hell do you want, Alec?" I seethed at the door.
He smirked and leaned on the door frame. The girls and I took a step back, causing him to laugh. "Oh come on! I'm not a disease! Just a hot dude saying hi is all."
"Psh, you may not be a disease, but you sure as hell carry one," Carly replied.
"Ugh. This is a waste of time. Let's go, girls," Opal fumed as she pushed Alec out of the way.
"Wait, whoa. You bitches can leave, but I want to talk to Lei," Alec smiled.
I folded my arms and replied sassily, "What makes you think I'd want to talk to you?"
"Just for a second."
"Fine."
"Okay--"
"Second's over. Bye asshole."
I strut away only to be pulled back again. "Seriously Lei. I really need to talk to you."
I growled, "Seriously Alec. Talk to me later."
I yanked my arm away and walked back to my friends. "What was that all about?" Carly asked.
I shook my head and replied as we got on the elevator, "Noting important. He just wanted to talk to me. I said later."
The rest of the elevator ride was silent, and when we reached the lobby, we were greeted by a handsome doorman.
"Bonjour. Your party is at the table down the hall into the dining room. Profiter de votre dîner."
"Merci," Opal replied with a smile.
"Tu parle français?" He asked her.
"Oui. Pas me vanter , mais je suis couramment!" She replied with a giggle.
The doorman smiled and pulled her aside. "Souhaitez-vous aller à une date?"
Opal turned back to us smirking at her. She shook her head and said, "Je voudrais bien , mais mes amis sont ici. Merci quand même."
Opal walked back to us after he waved. "Okay, what the hell were you guys saying?" I asked eagerly as we walked to the dinner table.
"Well when he realized I spoke French fluently, as an American, he asked me on a date. I turned him down, 'cause he obviously only liked that I spoke French," she explained with a disgusted face.
"Well you have to admit he was cute," Sophie scoffed.
Opal shrugged. We finally reached the full dinner table, and I could've sworn this was out of a chick flick. All of the guys were gawking at us, and the other girls were glaring. Those girls were Claire, Jessi, and their friends. Lauren and Ailani were just grinning. We greeted them with hugs and handshakes.
We took our reserved seats, and thankfully I sat between Carly and Mona. One that wasn't too interested to see me here was, yup, the Devil himself. Sitting right across from me.
And guess who was next to him? Claire.
Carly must've read my mind, because she spoke up to Lauren. "Um, Lauren? What is she doing here?"
"Well since Blake was part of the camp, he was able to bring a plus one."
"Actually," Mona spoke up, "She brought him, so wouldn't that make both of them uninvited?"
"Oh you guys! Stop hating on poor 'ole us!" Claire grinned.
I rolled my eyes and felt a sharp pain on my shin. I instinctively looked up at Blake, but he was chatting with the guys.
I looked to my right at Carly who glared at me. "What?" I mouthed.
"Say something," she mouthed back. I shook my head and she sighed.
We all ordered our drinks and chatted more. "So Tyler and Jessi. How was your break from camp?" Mona asked. Jessi just rolled her eyes and Tyler smiled. "It was great. We went to amusement parks and visited family. I had to bring Sad Susie over here everywhere."
"Shut up Tyler! Stop calling me that!" Jessi cried.
He scoffed under his breath, "This is why we broke up."
"Oh please! All you wanted to do was sleep with girls!" She yelled and banged her fist on the table.
"Jessi. Can you, like, shut the hell up?" Carly demanded.
"Carly's right. We're trying to have a nice dinner, and we can't seem to do anything with that attitude you always bring with you," Emily chimed in.
That escalated quickly.
The waiter came by, and we all relaxed. That was the most awkward moment ever. "May I take your order?"
We all took turns ordering. I ordered crepes, and sadly someone decided to order snails as an appetizer. Why snails?!
Once he left, it was awkward silence again. "Okay, I have a game," David smiled as he pulled his phone out, "Let's play Heads Up. You guys know how to play?"
We all perked up at that and nodded. I loved this game. Best game ever with a big group.
"Okay. Lauren? Why don't you start?" David grinned. She nodded and took the phone. She picked Act it Out, and we all oohed and aahed.
She held it up to her forehead and we all acted out "brushing teeth".
"Flossing! Oh! Brushing teeth!" We nodded and she flicked the phone down. We next acted out hugging someone, and she got that right.
We kept going with the game, and everyone decided to stay civil with each other. When it reached my turn, I picked animals just to make a fool out of everyone.
Everyone stared screaming animal sounds as I cracked up at their silliness. "Seagull, no! Crow!"
The fun chaos died down when the waiter brought our food. I licked my lips and rubbed my hands at my delicious looking crepe. Funny how nobody touched the snails except Aaron and Ailani. They devoured those things as we took pictures and yelled, "gross!" and "blegh".
After a while of eating and chatting, I felt another kick. I looked up again to see Blake smirking at me.
I seethed quietly, "What do you want?" Damn, it was like he was a mood ring. He was constantly changing moods. Unless he was on his--
"Just wanted to say hi."
"Hello. Is that all?"
"I heard you and Alec are getting close again," he laughed.
"Where did you hear that at all?" I fumed.
"From the source!"
"Okay, get this through your thick head," I seethed as I pointed a manicured finger at his face, "Alec and I will never--"
"You might want to lower your voice," Blake chuckled as he pushed my hand down. I looked around to find half the table staring at me. Thankfully Alec was annoying Jessi and didn't hear what I said.
"Go back to your conversations!" I sassed. They all turned away slowly and went back to talking. I turned back to find Blake cracking up.
"What's so funny?"
"Just you."
I sighed and went back to eating.
"Cheer up Lei! Don't be a Debbie Downer or a Sad Susie!" He choked out.
"Why don't you stop bothering me and talk to your girlfriend?" I spat.
"Are you jealous? Seriously, what's your deal with Claire, Lei?" Blake challenged.
I found myself not capable of forming words. Why was I so mean to Claire?
Well, she caused that whole thing to go down in middle school, but I was over that. Then the pool party, but those were just lame excuses. Was I really jealous?
"No. I'm not jealous," I lied.
So what if I was jealous?! It's not like it would've changed anything between Blake and me. That kiss a while ago was just a load of crap and feelings going all over the place. Besides, he obviously moved on anyway.
Ugh. It was better when I didn't think about it.
By the time I finished thinking, I looked up to see him still staring at me. Figuring me out I guess.
"What?"
"Nothing," Blake replied quietly and looked down.
Hm.

"We're going on a ferry?!?" Us girls screamed.
Sophie and Lauren nodded excitedly. We all squealed, and Sophie replied, "and the best part? We're going under the Pont de l'Archevêché!"
"Yes! Woo!" Opal cheered. She looked back at Jacob and I realized why she really turned the doorman down.
We all walked down the border and entered the ferry. I looked back at Emily and David holding hands. Awe. Gross.
I grabbed a slice of German Chocolate Cake. How ironic. We were in Paris eating German cake.
It probably wasn't even German.
I sat on the deck while everyone else explored the boat and took pictures. Someone sat next to me and stayed silent.
I turned over to see Elliot. "Hey! You looked snazzy," I greeted as I hugged him.
"So do you!"
Once we let go, he asked with a smirk, "You like Blake don't you?"
"What? No, that's--"
"Because he's dating Claire just to make you jealous. It obviously worked, and the funny thing is that she doesn't know that he's not really dating her."
"Oh."
"He told me and the guys. He likes you too Lei. You should talk to him at the party later this week."
"Why not now?"
"Claire."
"Aah."
Elliot took some frosting and dabbed it on my nose. He chuckled and walked away.
As I sat outside and thought about Blake and ate my cake, I also ate the frosting on my nose. I wasn't gonna waste that!
Okay. For starters, I guess I 100% liked Blake. It sadly took someone else to say it out loud for me to get it through my thick head.
I just didn't seem to get how I could've liked him though. We were always fighting about stupid stuff and messing around and acting crazy around each other.
We were always playing pranks and getting away from each other so we could think about other things.
We were always turning to other people to take our minds off the person that caused our lives to be entertaining.
I just couldn't put that together with a small crush. I mean, I always thought liking someone meant constant butterflies and being unable to talk, and sweating a lot.
Maybe that's what this wasn't even about.
What if...no. No way it could be.
I finished off my cake and went to grab another slice. I sat back down and started eating. Hey, eating made me think clearly.
I resumed my thinking and putting two and two together.
It couldn't have been love. Could it?
I tried to take my mind off the one burning question in my head as the gang called me over for pictures.
I had to answer that question at some point.
Was I in love with Blake Hemingway?
* * *
IS LEI IN LOVE? IS SHE? IS SHE?!?
You'll find out soon enough. Good news, though, she finally admitted to at least liking him.
