Chapter 10.
SOPHIA
"Hello." I spoke into the phone as I picked up the call.
"Sophia..." that voice, I knew it anywhere. I can not mistake it for anything.
"Mena...?" I ask in confusion. I look into the phone once more to be sure I was not hallucinating.
"Yes, yes." She sobbed into the phone.
"Please be careful. I overheared them; they have slight clues about your whereabouts. They want to kill you." She continues.
Shock consumed me, how did I suddenly forget the most important mission of all?
"Al-alright." I stuttered. "Please stay safe, I'll do everything I can to get you out of that place." It's scary but I'm more determined now than ever. Who to trust is the problem, but the truth is I can't do this alone. I need help.
"Goodbye. Someone's coming." She whispers and as fast as the call came in, it got disconnected.
I picked up my wig and sun glasses.
It's amazing how much time has passed since I started working here.
It's been more than a month now. I decided to keep my relationship with my boss strictly professional.
I can't have myself playing with my emotions. He has a girlfriend which by all indications, he'll eventually get married to.
Matters of the heart are very delicate and I won't be the other woman in the relationship. Its not as if there's anything between us, though.
Today is my day off and I would be paying Mrs. Claire a visit. She has been wonderful and nice so far. We hardly have time to meet physically so she calls me often. She wants me to meet Drew; her son, today.
Funny thing is, she does not hide the fact that she wants me to be in a relationship with her son. If only she knows the bitter truth about my past.
Well, let's see how today turns out. I heave a sigh, thinking back to the call I received earlier. I pick up my purse and leave the house.
....
"There you are, sweetheart. I've been waiting for you. Drew arrives in a few minutes." She pecks me by the cheeks and lead me to her pool side.
"I just want to enjoy the cool atmosphere water gives off. Hope you don't mind." She adds.
"No, anything is fine, Claire." We sit and start discussing.
"So, how has your week been?" When she asks that question, she wants details. I laugh and narrate the week's ordeal to her.
"Hi, mom." I hear a deep sultry voice say behind me. I turn around to look at the owner of the voice. Not bad, I shrug.
He walks to his mom and gives her a hug before pecking her cheeks then sits beside her, his eyes finally land on me and he smiles.
"Oh, Son this is Sophia, Sophia; my son, Drew." She introduced. He shakes my hands and drops a light kiss on it afterwards.
"Nice to meet you. I have heared quite alot about you from my mom." He says.
"Really. I hope they are nice things, Claire." I say.
"Very well." She says.
....
"It was nice meeting you today. Even though we didn't really talk for a long time. Will you go out with me this week?" Drew asks as he drops me home, I could see the gleams of hope in his eyes.
"Alright. I'll contact you the day before my day off." I smile back in response.
"Your number?" He asks. I just hand him my phone to type his instead.
"See you soon." He leans in and hugs me before going out to open the door.
"Goodnight." He says.
"Goodnight." I walk into the house and open the door.
Clothes are scattered on the floor. I hear moans coming from upstairs. Urghh, I mentally cringe. These two have forgotten their is a third person in this house. The rooms are not soundproof, you know.
I pick them up and take them to the laundry before heading to the kitchen. I don't want to go upstairs now, I would rather stay here.
The next morning, I wake up to go about my work for the day. I pass by the sitting room and see them cuddled up, watching a movie. I notice André turns to look at me.
"Good morning, Mr. Dumont, Ms. Halle." I say.
"Hello, Sophia." He says back, staring awkwardly at me.
"Hi." Halle replies dismissively. "Be a good help and get me some cookies from the fridge." She adds. Tsk, how I dislike her.
"Alright, ma'am." I answer with a mock curtesy.
I head for the kitchen to get what 'her highness' requested. What do I prepare this morning, I think to myself.
Later that evening...
"We need to talk." I look up to him and just nod silently bracing for what he wants to say.
