Shattered
A vase has the potential
To contain much beauty
But it is fragile, you see,
And if you drop it a single time
It might shatter into a thousand pieces
And you when you sweep it up,
You miss a piece or two
And throw the rest away
Maybe then, someone comes along
And finds the pieces in the trash
They might try to fix the vase,
Not knowing some parts are missing
So when they glue the pieces together,
There are a few holes,
And it can no longer hold water for the flowers
That would make it beautiful
They put it on a table by a window
Because to them, it is pretty to look at,
Even though it remains empty
But one day, the kids outside
Send a baseball flying through the window
And hit the vase, shattering it again
Not wanting to fix the vase a second time,
The once-good Samaritan sweeps up the mess,
Missing only a few pieces, and throws it away
The cycle continues
And each time the vase gets fixed
And finds a new purpose
It shatters and gets thrown away
Leaving a few pieces behind
Countless times this has happened
There are hardly any pieces left
And now you are here
Wanting to fix me
