7.

I am parking my blue pickup truck in the lot behind Club 21. I turn towards my sister and say, "Are you ready to see all the changes we've made to the club since you've been here?"

A smile spreads across her face. "I can't wait to see it." She grabs her purse from the floor and steps out of the truck.

I step out of the truck and walk over to the red door. Typing in the code on the device near the door, it opens, and we step inside.

We see a security guy as we walk down the dimly lit hallway. Chris smiles when he notices it's me and not my father. "Hey, Liza. Your father didn't tell me he was sending you to take over tonight."

Shaking my head, I say. "The old man doesn't say too much as it is. He took Momma on a date tonight. He's been so busy burying himself in work that his monthly dates with her were non-existent."

"That's terrible. I remember Dad used to tell me how he looked forward to taking her places. I'm glad you gave him the shove he needed."

"Me, too." Stepping aside. "I want you to meet my sister, Katrina."

She holds her hand out to him and says. "It's nice to meet you."

"Same here." He looks at me and says. "I suppose you want to know what's happened since your father left this evening."

"Yes, that would be great."

He looks around before saying. "We just had to kick out Vincent. He's been causing problems for a woman again. That guy must be put on the do not allow entry list."

"That's a good idea. I'll write a message to Dad and leave it in his office. Is there anything else you need to tell me?"

"Steve, he's been bitching for the last hour, saying he needs a break."

Shaking my head, I say. "That sounds like him. Why is he talking about not having his break every time I enter the club? Other workers could manage the bar while he took a break."

After talking to Chris, we walk down the hall. Kat pulled the red curtain across, and we stepped into the club. Loud music is pumping through the speakers.

A DJ stands before his turntable, plays music, and dances to the song.

Steve is standing behind the bar, serving a customer. He looks over and then waves me over to him.

Walking over to him, I say. "Can I help you?"

"Yeah, I've been working four hours straight, and I need to have a break. Can you take over for me?"

"Sure, you have thirty minutes." I see six boxes on the floor beside the bar that haven't been opened. "Before you leave. I want you to take the boxes to the cell room. It's a safety hazard having those boxes against the wall like that. I'm not going to be responsible for someone hurting themselves."

"Yes, Boss."

I hate it when he calls me that. Ever since I got to take over, when Dad spent time with Mom, he'd call me boss because I told him what to do.

"Kat, over here."

She walks over to me and stands with me behind the bar. We begin to serve people as they come up to the bar.

I showed Kat how to use the register, and she immediately understood.

After that, I leave her on one side of the bar while I take the other. When Steve returns from his break, he stands between my sister and me.

As the night wears on, people become drunk, and a fight breaks out on the dance floor. Four security guys break up the fight and lead the culprits outside.

Kat walks over to me and says. "Is it usually this crazy?"

"It's been getting this way. College kids travel down here to spend the night in the small town. We make a lot of money from those little shits. The fighting, however, is becoming a problem.

Logan walks into the bar, and his eyes rake over the girls in the room. His eyes finally make contact with mine, and a smile spreads. He walks over to the bar and whispers. "Just the girl I was looking for. Do you have a moment? We need to talk."

No, what he wants from me is to get laid. We play this game every couple of months.

Yet, I still end up having sex with him in a public place where someone can walk in on us at any moment.

"No,"

Kat looks over at him and says. "She'll go with you." Lowering her voice, she adds. "Have fun, little Sis."

I walk out from behind the bar and lead him to my father's office, which overlooks the club. I lean against my father's desk and say, "Let's get over this." I begin to unbutton my pants, but his hand touches mine.

"Are you okay, Liza?" He lifts my chin to look at me. "I haven't seen you like this since..." he cuts himself off because he doesn't want to say Austin's name.

"I'm Fine." I ground out the last word.

"No, you're not. You can talk to me."

"Just fuck me, Logan. Let's get this over and done with."

"No, Eliza. I'm not going to do that. I have respect for you, and you need to respect yourself. Stop making people happy and do something for yourself."

Shoving him, I say. "I want to get laid, but you want to talk. Why?"

"Because that's what you need, Liza. A shoulder to cry on. Please, tell me what's going on?"

Sighing, I lift my head and look him in the eyes. "This morning, I got an invite to the ten-year reunion. Then my sister, Nina, told me she had married a guy I couldn't stand. He used to attend the same high school as me, and they're returning home for the reunion. Lastly, I got a message from Austin. He told me that he can't wait to see me."

Shit! He mutters. "I'm sorry that all this happened in a day. How about I see you tomorrow? When everything isn't so bad?"

"No, Logan. You're right. I need to stop pleasing everyone. The first thing I'm going to do is deny you getting laid. You can call other girls in town when you come through town." Kissing his cheek, I say. "Thanks for all the good memories, Logan. I'll cherish them for the rest of my life." I buckle my pants and walk over to the door.

Holding it open, I wait for Logan to walk through it first. "Good for you, Eliza. I'll see you at the reunion." He walks downstairs to the dance floor, where he dances with a blonde.

Kat shakes her head and then continues to serve people at the bar.

Walking down the stairs, I head to the bar and pour myself a bourbon and Coke. I throw the drink back and continue serving people at the bar.

After closing, Kat walks over to me and says, "Nina sent me a message on Messenger. She said she was coming home for the reunion with her husband. He went to school with you. Is that true?"

"Yeah, he wasn't a nice guy back then. I don't know if he's changed, but I hope for the better he has."
