Notcher
Notcher
The red flames got closer and closer until my vision became emerald green. “Ahhhh” I scream. “I really should be used to this dream, I’ve had it for 11 years.” I looked up to see the top of my tree getting farther and farther away. I engaged my wings and accelerated back up to the top. “I wonder if it’s strange or a coincidence that I’ve been having the same nightmare every day since I was thrown out of the Village of Life.” I think.
Where I live is uncertain. I live in the tallest tree on the elemental island. Inside, I found a hidden. The tree is close to the top of the peak of the mountain, but isn’t at the top. It’s almost in a neutral zone for the elemental villages, which are Life, Fire, Water, Air, Earth, and worst of all, the metal village.
In the Village of Life, where I used to live, I had a brother. He was 2 years older than me and had black eyes. After I was thrown out of the village because of my strange abilities with life and plants, he secretly met me Halfway between the tree and the village, and would give me leftovers. I was 15 when he stopped coming. I still wonder why, but he probably forgot. I remember when he didn’t come. I was going to surprise him with a silver helmet and sword I had found, but three years later when he still hadn’t come, I started wearing it as protection. I learned that the sword was called the Magnolia’s Strike and helmet called Maple’s Shield.
I was in my deep trail of thought when I saw something outside. “What is that?” I cry out. Then a few minutes later I saw another. “Things are getting really weird almost like something is going to strike me down.” I stood guard for the most of the night. “Must get rest…” I think as my eyes fall like weights. I hear a loud rustle in front of me. I open my eyes. “Ahhhh.” I scream. The figure in front of me is wearing a white robe, has grey hair and eyes that are normal except for the pupil, which is like a dragon. He presses his index finger against my lips.
“Hello” the figure says. I notice that on his back is an axe. I stand up straight. “My name is Airis.” He says. “I have similar powers, I’ll explain more later.” He then presses his thumb, which was glowing against my skull. “Why haven’t I noticed that earlier?” My eyes filled up with a bright light and I collapsed on the ground.
I wake up and see the tree was filled with many orbs. “Why are these here?” “Clink” I see my helmet on the ground. “How did that get there?” I then look up to see Airis floating above me.
“Time to tell you about the powers of the Orbis” Airis shouts over the wind.
“What?” I ask loudly.
Airis lands on the ground. “I said time to learn about the powers we both possess” “Great.” I think.
“It all started 200 years ago in 2013 when a man called Dr. Palot Myunda discovered a dragon. He was the best genetic engineer in the whole entire world but something went wrong when he was splitting DNA, and Palot was morphed into a dragon-human hybrid with powers of Earth, Air, Life, Fire, Water, and Metal. He was able to get the powers out and save them and he put them in the base of the mountain but it cost his life.” Airis explains.
“If they’re in the mountain then why do we have our powers?” I ask
“Because there is a comet that only comes once every ten million years and it’s magnetic frequency triggered it to uncover these orbs.” Airis explains.
“Oh.” I say. “Are you and I the only people like us?” I ask.
“There is one from every village but one, and you are the youngest one we know about.” “We’re called Orbis because of these orbs” Airis says. Airis looks outside and sees that the sun is setting. “I have to leave.” Airs says as he rushes out the door.
“Why’d he leave so quickly?” I mutter. I rest my head on my soft pillow of cotton and close my eyes. Then I drifted off into a deep sleep
. . .
I’m in a forest surrounded by the orbs. I’m much older now but everything is peaceful. I look into the orbs and see that they are the elements. But three are not elements of the Villages, but of the moon, the stars, and the sun. When I touch the orbs a power runs through my veins and my eyes glow like Airis. It’s a happy dream instead of the one I’ve had for 11 years. I wake up.
. . .
I looked around to see if Airis is outside. “Yesterday he was here at dawn. Where is he?” I think. When the sun was high above my head, I decide that he isn’t coming and explore the mountain. I take one last glance in at the lush forest and head up to the misty top of the mountain. I am in a deep thought of where they could be when I slam face first into a wall of rocks. “Arghh” I cry in pain and frustration. I was so annoyed that I put out my hand and used all my might and power to make the wall burst. The gust of wind went so fast it broke the sound barrier and rocks go made flying and make me fly into the river. “This is a really bitter sweet moment.” I think to myself. I move past the wall of rock and it suddenly becomes really misty. “Ahhhh” I howl as I stub my toe on something like a pillar and blast a stream of fire out of my free hand. When my foot feels better I open my eyes and see that the heat made the mist go away. In front of me was a marble temple with a pink hue. Its beauty amazed me. When I go inside there is Airis and other people like him. Some have tails like dragons, others had the sharp teeth, but I am the only one with wings. They seem to be discussing something important. I come eye to eye with a very old one wearing a crown with small orbs in it.
“Ah hem.” He was clearing his throat. “Hello Notcher, I am Thearos king of the Orbis. I am the oldest Orbis alive, at 150 years.” Thearos says. Thearos introduces me to every Orbis. When we’re done he tells me the discussion that was going on was about how they think the metal Orbis is alive.
Suddenly the floor under the temple explodes revealing a person who is covered in armor. “The metal Orbis is alive,” Thearos screams” They all run away leaving me here with him.
“Hello Notcher.” the metal Orbis says. “It’s a shame that we just met. I believe we could have been great friends but now you have to leave Earth. Now before you die you should at least know the soon to be ruler’s name before you die.” The Metal Orbis says. “It’s Demise. Goodbye” Demise shouts. He launches a huge fireball. I am too stunned to do anything, except think.
“Goodbye world.” Suddenly a spray of water comes out of nowhere. I turn in its direction and see Thearos using all his might. “Thank you,” I mouth to him. He collapses to the ground. At first I almost cry but then I became full of rage. I take out the Magnolia’s Strike and get ready to strike. I could feel my self-getting more powerful. Demise let out a maniacal laugh. I jump up and trust my sword into Demise’s heart. He falls to the ground but he was still laughing but faint. “We could have been friends.” he whispered then fell to his side. Lifeless.
