Chapter 5
I could feel Josh's eye on me all of my first hour and all the other hours I have him in. Every time I saw Katie she always gave me a death stare, I tried my best to ignore it. It wasn't till lunch when she came up to me, I was with Jess eating the schools lunch. I was sure I was lucky that she didn't bring any of her friends.
"Hey Emma, I wanted to ask you some questions," She moved my tray and sat in front of me. I hesitated, I didn't want to talk to her. Jess looked fairly confused on why she was here and gave me a glance. "Do you know if Josh is a virgin?"
My heart froze. What type of question was that? I didn't even know the answer to the question, "I think he is..." surely I was right. She giggled a bit.
"If that's true, I can see why he didn't try to get into your pants. Anyhow," she leaned closer to me, to only where I could hear. "I just gave him a blowjob in the bathroom and my breath still smells of his dick-"
I pushed her off the table. She fell on the ground, food spilled over her as she tried to grab the table. I had no idea what came over me, it wasn't jealousy or hate. It was discomfort. Maybe because I don't talk about that stuff. I still had to play it off, but she spoke first, "What the fuck, bitch? Did the talk about how his dick make you uncomfortable?" I sighed to calm myself. Jess looked at me, eyes wide and filled with shock that I pushed someone.
"Shouldn't you be with Josh? He gets a bit annoyed around lunchtime," I said and grabbed my tray. She looked surprised. I scoffed. "Even you should've known that."
She stood up and rubbed off the food that fell on her. Everyone that was focusing on us slowly started going back to their lunch. Jess jumped up and ran after me with her tray, "I can't believe you did that!"
"I didn't know what came over me. Maybe I didn't get enough sleep, I did stay up a little late last night." I put my tray on a conveyor belt near the trash cans. Jess did the same and walked with me to my locker. I saw Josh sitting around my locker with his bag. I tried to ignore him, but he got up and slammed his hand next to my locker.
"Why did you leave me with her?" He asked. I looked up at him.
"It wasn't my choice, he thought I wasn't responsible enough to watch you. I respect that." I grabbed my bag and closed my locker, resetting my combination.
"But I want you..." I blushed a little at that statement. Looking at Jess, I saw her wink at me. I elbowed her and turned away.
"Should of thought of that before y-" just then, I was slammed against the lockers. Pain stabbed my right arm as I fell to the ground. Katie stood over me, anger burning in her eyes. Jess helped me to my feet. Josh walked over to Katie, watching very carefully.
"You just had to show me up, did you?" She spat. Fear sparked in my chest. She wanted to fight to prove something. I stepped back. "Backing down? Should've known a bitch with a bark has no bite."
I didn't say a word, but I did notice my fear disappeared from my chest. It was replaced with annoyance and anger. As she spoke I formed my hand into a fist, "Girl get so much attention from guys and yet doesn't acknowledge them trying. That's when you know you're dealing with a bitch-"
I swung my right fist at her teeth, knocked her off her feet. I pushed myself forward, swinging in my left arm. Josh backed up with Jess, shocked. The anger that was building up inside my just suddenly bursted out. Blood sputtered out of her mouth as she hit the ground, her head banging against the hard floor. My hand had some skin lose due to her teeth. I stood over her body, glaring down at this bitch like Sky Jackson. Jess grabbed my hand and ran away as the bell rang, I looked back to see Josh starring at me then helped Katie up. We stopped near the bathrooms and caught our breaths.
"I can't believe you punch her!" She exclaimed. I looked down at my hands, they weren't bleeding, but they did have Katie's blood on them. Jess grabbed them and rushed me into the bathroom. She ran warm water over them, helping me clean them up.
"To be honest, neither can I..." I finally said after a few minutes of silence. We were both sinking in what just happened. The warning bell rang and we walked to class together.
"Josh looked at you the whole entire time. He was shocked that you punched Katie, but he seemed used to it..," Jess said. I gave her a look. She sighed. "You saw Josh's mother...she's a druggy and beats him. Couldn't you tell, Emily?"
I shook my head, "I saw she looked skinny and kinda dull, but I didn't know she beat him." She nodded. She explained that he wraps his arms because there are cut marks. "How do you know this?"
"I overheard it when I went to the office to find you the same day you ditched. The principal sounded worried about Josh," She explained. We walked into class and sat down. The tardy bell rang and the class started on their bellwork. "Maybe if you just talk to Josh, he would open up to him. Just give him a chance. I mean, I already know you like him."
"What? I don't like him." I looked away from her. She chuckled.
"Oh? So why did you get mad when Katie talked about Josh, huh?" She asked. I thought about it. She could be right, but I didn't want to admit it yet. No, she IS right.
I do like him.
