Chapter 8
We were lucky to finish the day without anymore problems. Mrs. Brady got lucky I suppose, Josh was a bit cruel about threatening to stab her unborn baby, but it could've been worse. The big problem is that I like Josh, and I don't even know if I should tell him. "What should I do, Jess?" I asked. She looked up from her phone, crumbles of chips on her mouth onto the coffee table.
"Go to his house and tell him. You know he likes you too," She ate one more chip before pushing the bag away. "Now, tell me more about that night he slept with you." I sighed and sealed up the chip bag, putting it back in the pantry.
"I told you, he didn't sleep with me, he just-"
"Ate you out."
I glared at her, but nodded in agreement, "it's not a big deal..." I trailed off. Should I really go to his house and tell him? Just the thought made me feel uncomfortable. His mother seemed like she was gonna be a problem. I waved my hand, motioning her to come up stairs with me. We ran up to my room and shut the door. Jess grabbed my phone and pushed it towards me.
"Go on! Text him." She squealed. I unlocked my phone and went to messages. I was a bit nervous and felt like backing out.
Me: hey...it's Emily. I have to tell you something. Could I come over to your place?
I showed her the text. "Is this your first time texting him?" I nodded. Not even a minute later my phone buzzed. It was Josh.
Josh: uhh...sure if that's what you want, how does Saturday sound?
Me: ok thanks.
I showed Jess the text. She squealed again, "See? Now you can tell him." I sighed and shrugged, still unsure. I couldn't help but wonder what will happen after I tell him.
The week was a breeze, no quizzes or test. Josh was no trouble with anyone. It was suspicious to see all that happening. I sat up in my bed, turning off my alarm. The sun blinded me as I pushed the covers off me. I rubbed my eyes and stretched. I'm suppose to go to Josh's house around 5 P.M. I got dressed and ate breakfast. I mostly watched tv all day till 4:30.
"Mom! I'm going to Jess's house!" I yelled. She replied with an "Okay." I walked out the door and got into my car. I typed in his address into my phone and started working my way there. After five minutes I pulled into a unfamiliar neighborhood. I parked on the side of the street and checked my phone. Suddenly a knock came to my window. I jumped a little when I saw Caleb standing there. His face looked a lot better from when the last time I saw him. I slowing rolled down my window.
"Hey, what are you doing in this run down neighborhood?" He asked. His eye wasn't swollen anymore and his lip was healed. I was unsure on what to say to him.
"Going to see a friend?" I was unsure of what to do, I didn't really want to talk to him. He still gave me that same stare as he always did, and it annoyed me. "When do you come back to school again?"
"Oh in a few days, and I promise not to bother you again. Josh made it clear that you're his." He put one hand up, swearing he wouldn't. That's did make me feel a little bit better that he wouldn't bother me anymore. "I'll be on my way now, sweetheart. See you later."
With that he walked off. I rolled my eyes and drove off again. I pulled up to this dumpy, torn-down house with an overgrown garden and lawn. One window was broken but was covered up with a cardboard box. The garage was barred up with wooden planks. The door was archaic and looked as if it would break off if pulled to hard. I got out of my car and walked up to the door and knocked. A dog from inside started going nuts. I hate dogs. Not necessarily hate, but have a general fear of them, no matter the type.
"Cody! Go to your cage now!" The voice came from what sounded like a small girl. The barking stopped as the door opened. A six or seven little girl greeted me. Her hair looked greasy and unevenly cut. Her clothes looked like hand-me-downs from an older sibling. "Can I help you?"
"Uh yeah, is this 2704 Harper street?" I asked. She looked me up and down, twice, then gave me a little smile.
"Are you Emily?" She asked. I nodded. "I'm Brooklyn, but just call me BB. Everyone does. Come on in."
I hesitated for a moment then followed her in, closing the door behind me. Looking around, the house looked a lot better on the inside. No carpet, hard wood floors, which were scratched up, probably by the dog, and brown furniture that had stains in certain spots. Suddenly an older boy came from out of the hallway, he had a ripped shirt on and shorts. He seemed to be the oldest kid here. His eyes locked on to mine.
"Hey Josh's girlfriend is here!" He walked past me and smacked his little sisters hair around. She pushed away his hand. "Names Cavin, I'm Josh's older brother."
I nodded, "Emily."
"I know, I've heard about you," he turned back to the hallway and yelled, "Josh! Your girlfriend is here!" Then proceeded to walk to the kitchen. A few moments later, Josh came around the corner, shirtless.
"For the last time, Cavin. She not my girlfriend!" He yelled, only receiving a laugh from across the house. He motioned me to follow and I did. "My mom is at work so we can hang out."
"Does she not like people over?" I asked. He gave a weird look.
"She barely ever home anyway, but yeah I guess so," We walked into his room. "Sit on the bed." I obeyed. He closed his door and sat next to me.
"Jess told me that I should hang out with you." I said. He gave a little smile.
"Seems like her." I couldn't help but look at his body. By the look of his room, he never worked out so how could he have a great body? I blinked away my thoughts and looked at his arms. They weren't bandaged anymore and some of the scars were faded.
"I don't bite myself anymore, thanks to you," He noticed my starring. I slightly blushed and looked away. His room was a little clean, only underwear and soda cans on the ground and dressers. "What did you want to tell me?"
My heat froze. Is it happening? Now? It's gonna happen so fast, I don't know if I can keep up. "Oh! Uh, it's hard to explain." He started to scrunch up his body into a ball. He was getting nervous.
"I can try to understand." His arms started getting closer to his face. That's when I panicked. "I like you!" I shouted out then immediately covered my mouth. His arms dropped to his side, a bit shocked. We sat there for a moment or two in silence. His hands moved to my cheeks, forcing me to look at him. His expression looked serious.
"Do you know how long I've been waiting to hear those words?" He asked. I shook my head, but it was interrupted by his lips pressing against mine.
