Two

Well, although Mrs Richards said that I would have to start Government tomorrow, class would officially start next week. I would first have to read up on the past two semesters' topics this week.

I still hadn't been able to find out about the strange person who had appeared in Mrs Richard's office when she called me up just now.

After school, I grabbed my books and stuff from my table, pulled my hoodie up and took the stairs down to the locker area. I dumped all of my stuff inside, except for my haversack and my homework.

I took my car keys out from my pocket and walked to the car park. Kids here could get a license once they were seventeen and I just got mine a week ago. My car was now a red Mustang Light.

A secondhand one.

"Seal, do you like this?" My dad asked me last year on my birthday after we were strapped into the car seats for the first time.

"Yeah. It's cool."

"Does it look new enough?" He murmured.

I was confused of the way he said "new enough" and not "new". "Huh. I don't get it. It's new, isn't it?"

He smiled apologetically. "See, I feel that this is a perfect colour and brand of car for you so I took it. And also, you'll be going to college in two years time. You'll be able to earn your own keep and buy something truly yours."

I bit my lip. I was actually not concerned whether it was new or old, it was more of the matter of how expensive it was."What year is it?"

"What?"

"The car."

"Ooh that. 1999."

"It still looks new. Like really new." I paused. "And expensive too. Although it's old. Where did you get the money?"

"It's a free will society."

"What? You stole it?"

"No way. Your dad is no such person."

I waved his words away and giggled.

We were not a rich family here and when I was younger, when Mom had just died, we did not even have money to pay for our meals. Mom was a huge part in Dad and my life. She was a working mom and she provided additional income for us. After a period of time, Dad finally found a more stable job but the salary was still little.

So, it was queer that dad actually had sufficient money to pay for such a fancy car.

I unlocked my Mustang and climbed onto the driver's seat. The engine started immediately and I jammed down on my gas pedal. I steered the car towards the school gate where I queued behind the line of cars waiting to get out of this place.

There was a black Ferrari in front of me, music blasting out of it as a random guy whom I didn't know tapped with the beat on the left side of his car with his fingers.

I tolerated it until he was the first one in the line and someone-a girl-came up to the side of his car to converse with him. They were having a conversation while all the vehicles behind him were waiting for him to exit. Can't he see that?

"Hey!" I lowered my window and shouted out towards his direction. "Move!" No response. The music was too loud for him to hear.

I just had to go out to make him to drive away and turn off the music.

"Oh my gosh. Can you see everyone is like waiting behind you? And also, there is currently noise pollution coming out from your car." I said in frustration as I crossed my arms and lowered my hoodie.

"Yes of course. I have eyes. And ears."

I rolled my eyes and stared pissed off at the two people facing me.

The girl was from my Italian class. The guy had tousled dirty blonde hair over his sharp features framed in his oval face. He wore a black biker jacket over his black sweater. He wore grey pants. I guessed he liked darker shades of colours.

He twisted his mouth to the side and said,"Well then..." He placed his hand on the hip of the girl standing outside the door of his car. "Let's go somewhere else to talk. So that we won't waste someone else's precious time."

"It's not only for me..." He was treating me as if I were in the wrong.

The guy stepped outside the car and opened the door on the other side to allow her to get in. After she got in, he said, "Now I know why you're the most hated one. I didn't know who you were just now so I asked my friend to show me your photo. The lists are so accurate." He said sarcastically. I was sure he believed that some of that information were inaccurate. He drove off after getting back to the driver's seat. He still had not turn down the music.

I returned to my car and drove out too.

I've never been on the list before and I didn't know that some attack the people in them with the mean information. I knew that if this was the case, some people probably got compliments too. But humans were selfish creatures. They would not compliment someone unless they would gain benefits from doing it.

Thus, there would still be more criticism than praises resulting from the lists. And I had to get used to that fact.

My house was one kilometer east after the highway. It took myself a total of fifteen minutes to get back home.

"Dad, I'm going to hang out with Lia." I shouted upstairs once I stepped into the house. He was probably still at work since he didn't reply me.

Mom loved white, like me. And the entire house was white. Our living room did not have a television, just some brown sofas, brown carpet and a white coffee table. There was also a white bookshelf at the side.

I ran up the flight of white stairs and came into my room. My room was the only place in the house that was a little different. Its primary colours were champagne and red. I had hot pink as my wallpaper when I was younger but that colour was now out for me.

Champagne coloured wall and curtains. Red wood for the floor. My window was huge and it covered the entire side of my room. Below it was a ledge for me to zonk out on. My bed was made but with some clothes strewn over it. I had to dig for my hoodie early today as it was nearing the rainy season and it was colder now.

I replaced my skirt with some shiny tight-fitting leather tights, took my stuff and headed down again to my car to drive to the W Cafe to meet with Lia.
