The Park

When Caleb woke up, he saw Seria's empty bed. Caleb jump to his feet and saw Seria sitting by the window, staring at the falling rain. "Seria?" Caleb said, sitting down next to her.

"I couldn't go outside, so this is the closest i could get to the rain." Seria sniffled. "Hey. Don't cry. Gosh, girls can be so sensitive." Caleb scoffed. Seria hit Caleb in the arm. The zapping feeling was still there. "HEY!" Caleb chuckled, Seria followed. Soon, they were laughing together.

"I missed this. Laughing with someone. it's been at least four years." Caleb sighed.
"It's been about a year since i have slept under the same roof with someone else." Seria stared up at the ceiling. Caleb stared at Seria's rhythmic breathing. "Hey, Caleb...have you ever...um...you know...uh...dated anyone...?" Seria stared into Caleb's eyes.

"Well, yes. Once. Why, though?" Caleb smiled. "Just...wondering..." Seria whispered. "What about you?" Caleb smirked. "No..." Seria began biting her nails. "No? I was sure you had! I mean you are really pretty." Caleb laughed. "You think i'm...pretty?" Seria smiled. "I mean...i guess...yeah..." Caleb shrugged. Seria blushed. Seria's hand opened the window. "I love the smell and look of rain. It's beautiful. I'm more emo than ii thought." Seria giggled. "I like the rain, too." Caleb sat on his knees and stared out of the window, too.

"Hey, Caleb, what do you wanna do? Anything." Seria shrugged. "I don't really know. What do people usually do for fun?" Caleb sighed. "Well, I don't know what. The park?" Seria suggested. "Sure, I guess." Caleb smiled. "Then you can wear my dad's old boots!" Seria jumped up. Caleb followed her to the living room and to a closet door.

Seria pulled out a pair of really tiny black rain boots, and some large camo rain boots. "Nice..." Caleb smiled. Seria shoved them towards him. "Take 'em." Seria said. Caleb grabbed the boots and sat down on the floor to put them on. Seria continued to rummage through the closet. "Here." Seria through a camo raincoat onto Caleb's head. "We have to be submerged to become mermaids right? So rain will be okay,  huh?" Seria slipped into a purple raincoat. "Yeah. We will be fine." Caleb slipped his arms into the coat and stood up. "Let's go." Caleb said. "Hold on." Seria said as she reached into the closet and pulled out a bright red umbrella. "So we have extra protection. Just in case..." Seria closed the closet door and opened the front door. "Let's go." Seria said as she walked out and opened the umbrella. Caleb joined her underneath the umbrella and, together, they walked to the park, in the rain.

They walked under the arch that read "Randall Park" and followed the path under the cherry trees and evergreens. "Pretty, isn't it?" Seria said as she clutched the umbrella handle. "I guess. I've been surrounded in seaweed and water for my whole life, and been limited to beaches and oceans. This is completely new to me." Caleb chuckled. "I barely go out swimming, but I love being out in the rain with an umbrella. It's like magic; all the rain deflects off of the umbrella, keeping you dry, yet you are completely surrounded by water. It's beautiful." Seria gazed around.

"I guess so. But whenever it would rain before, I wouldn't know. Because I was always underwater. I never knew what rain was until I started going above the water and actually feeling it hit my skin. It was a depressing time for me. I have been living my life in fear of what might happen." Caleb said as they walked passed a couple shouting at each other. "Are you alright, Caleb?" Seria gazed at Caleb.

"As good as I can be..." Caleb rested his hand on the umbrella handle right above Seria's hand. "Pretty low bar you're setting." Seria stopped walking. Caleb turned around and stopped in front of her. "What do you mean?" Caleb asked. "I just...it seems like you're upset about something. What is it?" Seria pulled her raincoat off of her head, looked up, and let the rain fall onto her face. "Nothing. I'm just not used to hanging out with other people. I've been on my own most of my life. It's actually really nice." Caleb smiled. "Really?" Seria looked at Caleb, her hair soaked. "Yeah..." Caleb extended his arm and put the umbrella over Seria. "Thanks..." Seria whispered as she stared into Caleb's eyes. Caleb blushed as he looked away. "We should get back to your house. We're gonna freeze out here." Caleb said. Seria nodded as she started walking. Caleb followed her out of the park and down the side walk.

Seria shut the door behind her and pulled off her raincoat and boots. She slipped them into the closet and looked at Caleb. "Take off your coat and shoes, and put them in there." Seria pointed to the closet. Caleb nodded as he pulled the sleeve of the rain coat off. Seria walked down the hallway and into the bathroom, then she shut the door behind her. Once Caleb put his stuff into the closet and shut the door, he sat down on the couch and waited for Seria to come back into the living room.

Caleb heard the bathroom door click open behind him. He heard footsteps, then, he saw Seria sit down in a chair across from him as she sighed. "What do you want to do now? We still have the rest of the day to burn." Seria brought her knees up to her chest as she hugged them. "Don't ask me that. I don't know what to do." Caleb chuckled. "Yeah, me, neither." Seria laid her head on the arm of the chair. Caleb stood up and walked into the kitchen.

"You want anything?" Caleb asked as he filled a glass with water. "Seria?" Caleb walked back into the living room and saw Seria; she was fast asleep. Caleb sat down on the couch and stared at Seria. "Now what do I do?" Caleb sat the glass on the coffee table and laid on the arm of the couch. Pretty soon, they were both asleep.
