"Get up! Get up Foran! We're here!" 

The excited voice cut through the sleepy haze. Forcing his eyes open, Foran saw blazing sunlight all around him. He rolled over to get out of bed, and almost fell to his death. 

Suddenly snapping wide awake, Foran clung to the mast. The ground swung dizzyingly below him, full of boys shouting morning greetings up at him. 

Kia hovered in front of him, chittering at him. He could have sworn she was laughing at him. 

Angry at himself for falling asleep up here, Foran swung himself the right way up. Kia perched on his shoulder, watching him in amusement. Refusing to look at her, he climbed back down the rigging.
