Chapter 3
- A Masterpiece
Alaister opened the door to his bedroom and stopped in his path as he stared at the room in front of him. It was incredible.
There was a large four poster double bed right in the middle of the room, which was covered in a padded silk. In the corner there was a huge bay window with had multiple sofas around it. The room had a dark floor that was covered by rugs in a few different places. It was absolutely breathtaking.
"It's Beautiful isn't" A voice said from behind him. He jumped, whipping his head round. It was a woman he had never seen before.
Alaister followed the woman with his eyes as the woman began to walk slowly into the room.
" Beatrice used to sleep in here when she was younger, when she had a free mind. Before it turned cruel." She continued a sad look in her face
"We used to best friends. We would do everything together. She said forever. But forever is a very short time." The woman said smiling with sad eyes as she turned around.
"My name is Jane" she said holding out her hand. Alaister shook it.
"I am the the head maid here. Sorry about my-*she took a deep breath*- Behaviour then. This room just brings back... Memories." Jane said.
"Nice to meet you Jane, my name is-"
"Alaister, yes I know. In fact all of the staff here know who you are."
"Um, Jane?"
"Yes Alaister? Wait, can I call you Alaister?"
"Uh, yes you can call me Alaister but-"
"Oh thank goodness! I thought for a moment there that you wouldn't allow it and-"
"Jane!" Alaister almost yells
"Yes?" Jane says looking up
"I just want to know why if you were my Great Aunt Beatrice's best friend, what are you doing as a maid in her house?" Alaister asks pressing the point.
"Well,I well you see-" she was cut off by Fred coming into the room telling her to go downstairs to the kitchens where she is needed.
"Jane! What happened?"Alaister's called after her.
"I have to go Alaister, goodbye!
Alaister stood in the door way of his bedroom as he watched Jane scamper down the hall.
"Ugh" he said to himself.
"Fred can you-" He began to ask Fred but he has already left.
Never mind then, I have to unpack my belongings anyway. He thought.
By evening Alaister was exhausted and wanted to do was just sink into those plush pillows and fall into a dreamless slumber, but, that was not the case. For at 6 pm Fred came to fetch him for supper.
"Supper is served sir" Fred said normally.
"Mmm what's for supper?" Alaister asked hungrily.
"Escargot" Fred said smirking "A delicacy from France"
"Yum, what is it?"
"You'll see"
Fred and Alaister reached the living and Alaistwr sat down in the appropriate chair. The food was placed in front of him, reaveing what looked like-
"Snails?" Alaister asked disgusted and confused
"Yes Alaister dear" his great aunt said "A delicacy from France, escargot!"
Alaister screwed up his nose but decided it would be rude if he didn't eat anything.
He fumbled around with his fork trying to pick up the snails. Finally, after trying for quite some time he managed to get a single snail on his fork. He braces himself for the taste.
Slowly he lifts the snail op to his mouth. One... Two... Three...
Alaister popped the snail into his open mouth, clenching his jaw when the taste of the snail hit his tounge.
His Great aunt looked at him expectantly, so he forced a smile.
"Mmm, delicious" he mumbled, snail juices lipping out of his mouth. He slurped it back up.
"I knew you would love it!" Great Aunt Beatrice said smirking.
Alaister continued popping snails into his mouth for the rest of the night, putting on a fake smile.
Once dinner was finished Alaister out of the dining room, wanting to get as far away from the snails as possible. Why would you even consider eating snails! He thought, still running. Eventually Alaister reached the front door.
"Hmm, I haven't looked outside yet, so I mays well do that now" he whispered to himself.
Alaister opened the humongous door just enough for him to fit through.
"Wait, this isn't the front door!" Alaister exclaimed as he found himself on the edge of a very tall cliff.
"Where am I?" I asked
All of a sudden he heard something rustling in the bushes...
