Willie is a very nice OC! While abusive parents are frequently used with ocs, having he and his sister escape and sending him to an orphanage was very different. And having him be adopted was even better! His backstory sets him apart.

Though, I would suggest researching how abuse affects a child's development. That could help you expand upon his psyche and make him more rounded, because his personality seemed a little vauge.

And I was slightly confused by the magic thing, but I suppose that the magic in your universe is tied to emotions. Perhaps one of his parents could be witches/mages/etc? That'd make his powers more believable.
