Awake
Oh, I must have nodded off. Just laid down a minute, closed my eyes and...
Anyway I wasn't expecting to see you here. No, I'm not complaining, not complaining at all. It's nice waking up and you being the first person I see, looking into those eyes.
You're staring a bit.
Yes I like your eyes, of course I like your eyes; especially the right one.
Ok, that's an old joke.
But sometimes I catch you looking at me, and think you can read me like a book.
And sometimes, once in a while like now, I even believe we are on the same page.
Funny that, isn't it.
What was I listening to earlier? Oh that was Fantasia on Greensleeves by Ralph Vaughan Williams. I usually listen to that when I'm on my own, immerse myself in the music. Those first notes play, and soothe a troubled mind. You should try it. And listen to The Lark Ascending too. That's a beautiful piece, reminds me of Sussex, up on the downs, no people around. Just breath it all in and feel alive. So close to nature, the universe, what it's all about, I don't know; well maybe.
Are you joining me for a drink?
Pour your favourite tipple, I would.
I've cured my mysterious wobble. I mean on the dodgy table leg. I shoved a wooden ruler underneath it and now it's wobble-less. Guess you didn't need to know that. Guess we all wobble sometimes.
You're very quiet.
I seem to be doing all the talking,
But at least you're here.
What am I doing later? Well not what you're thinking; not at the moment anyway. There's no time. Jobs to do.
Maybe, when you're gone I'll go out for a walk.
Plenty to think about.
I'll see you soon?
(In this piece the reader is the second character :)
