Chapter 29

~Astrid~~6 months later~

Six months have come and gone. Drago hasn't been spotted, unless Hiccup isn't telling me something. He has me in bed now. He claims it's for my safety, and the baby's.

Hiccup was away for a few weeks, and was coming back today. I knew Hiccup wanted me to be in bed, but I wanted to be at the docks when he arrived. So I got out of bed for the first time today. I knew it was cold out, so I got the thick yak hide coat out of our closet. I pull it around me. I was surprised to see that it covered me so well with my stomach and all.

I walk out of the hut, and pull the hood over my head. I wasn't going to walk all the way down to the dock, but to just one of the platforms where Hiccup could see me. The meeting was supposed to last a few days, but Hiccup contacted me saying that it would take longer. He took Gobber, and Valka with him for support, so I was left with the village for the last few days. Gobber didn't leave until a few days ago.

I saw Toothless, Valka's dragon, and Gobber's dragon fly through the sky. Hiccup landed on the platform just below me, he looked up and saw me standing. I waved down to him. He ran up the ramps. He engulfed me in a hug, and swung me around.

"I thought you were in the hut?" Hiccup asks.

"I was, but I wanted to see you as soon as I could," I say.

I felt the baby kick. We were still in a hug, and Hiccup felt it.

"I guess he couldn't wait any longer either," Hiccup says placing a hand on my very large stomach.

"How do you know it's a he?"

"Because I want it to be a boy, and we need to call the baby something more than it."

"True."

Hiccup places his arm around my shoulders, and we begin to walk back to the hut. "So what do you want the baby to be?" Hiccup asks me.

"I'll settle for anything really." He gives a small laugh. "What? What's so funny?"

"Oh, just you. The way you've been acting about the baby. I kind of like it."

"Hey, watch it." I give him a playful smile.

He bends down and kisses me on the lips. The wind picks up, and blows my hair. We pull apart and I shiver. Hiccup pulls the coat tighter around my shoulders, and we continue to the hut.

We get in, and Toothless lights the fire to keep us warm. I shed the coat. Hiccup sits in his father's old chair, and there is still enough room for me to sit next to him.

"How was the meeting?" I ask gazing into the fire.

"It was alright. By the end of the meeting people were beginning to take the threat more seriously. They agreed to help Berk with Drago problems, because he will come again. He's not going to stop coming until we kill him. There's no other way."

"I know. What will the counsel do?"

"They'll send us help after Drago attacks which isn't much. The tribes on the edge of the archipelago agreed to keep a tight perimeter on the boarders. They're supposed to warn us if he comes it, which will give us an advantage to a counter attack. The counsel is still going, but our business was done there."

"That's better then nothing I guess."

I lean my head on his shoulder and look into the fire for a little while longer. That is until excruciating pain comes. I double over, and clutch my stomach. I cry out in pain.

"Astrid!" Hiccup yells. I cry back in pain. "I'm going to go get help."

Hiccup rushes out of the hut to find help. I sit there still in pain. Hiccup comes back with Valka, and Gothi.

"What happened?" Valka asked.

"I don't know. We were talking one moment, and then the next she was crying out in pain," Hiccup explained.

I heard Gothi draw in the small patch of dirt next to the fire.

"Gothi says get her on your bed, and hurry," Valka says.

Hiccup picks me up bridal style and carries me to our bed. The pain only gets worse. I can't make out what else they're saying, but I do hear Valka say, "We think that Astrid may be having the baby early."

"What?" Hiccup says.

"We need to get ready in case she is having the baby early."

It's all a fury of yelling, crying, and more pain. Then the ground shakes. Hiccup leaves the room. I assume he's looking outside to see what's happening. He comes back in. "It's Drago. He's here," he says.

Not now, I think. It can't be now. Another wave of pain goes through me, and I yell out.

"Go. We'll take care of her," Valka says. "If Drago comes close to here, I'll protect her."

Hiccup rushes over, and grabs my hand. "Stay strong. I'll be back," he says, then he's gone.

"Astrid, your baby is coming. There is no better way to do this right now. We're sorry if we're rushing you into this, but we want to get you to safety before Drago gets the chance to come near here," I hear Valka say. I nod my head. "Okay. Now when I tell you, you're going to have to push." I nod my head. "Okay. Push."

With all of my might I push. I claw at the blankets, and the wooden bed for something to hold onto. For something to grab.

I don't know how long it is before I hear a cry. A baby's cry. "Okay Astrid. Only a few more. Now push," Valka says.

I push once, twice, three times before I get the word that the baby is out. I let out a long sigh as I throw my head back into my pillow. But I still felt weird. Like there was still more to come. Another blast shakes the ground.

"Okay we need to get you out of here. I'll have to carry you," Valka says. As she goes to lift me a shock of pain goes through me. I practically scream. "What? What is it?" Gothi motions Valka over. Gothi draws something. "Are you sure?" Gothi gives the look that says she's never wrong.

"W-what is it?" I ask still in pain.

"Astrid, you're going to have to push again. Gothi says you're having twins."

"What?!" I yell.

"There's no time. You're going to have to push."

I do just that. I push, and push until I hear another baby cry. It's quieter then the other. The ground shakes as another blast hits. After it clears I don't hear the baby anymore. I start to worry.

"Okay last time I promise Astrid," Valka says.

I see as Gothi picks up the baby, and begins to clean it. She rushes out of the room with it. Valka brings me the first born.

"It's a boy Astrid," she says as she carefully places the bundle of a baby in my arms. I smile down at him. He has a tuft of auburn hair on his head.

"What about the other one?" I ask.

"We don't know yet. Gothi is seeing what she can do." A blast hits again, this time it's bigger, which means it's closer. "Astrid, we're going to have to get you out of here."

Valka wraps me in a blanket, picks me up, and carries me out of the hut. I hold tightly onto my son, and Gothi has my other baby. She's right behind us. We go to the cove which is in the middle of the island. Valka goes into the small cave that's in the cove. She sets me down, and Gothi sits close to me.

"I have to go and help. I'll tell Hiccup where you are," Valka says.

"Thank you," I say, my voice hoarse from yelling in pain.

Valka rushes out of the cave, and heads back to the village. Gothi is still looking at my other baby. I pray to Odin that he will spare the child. I hear a small cry and look over to see it alive. I let out a sigh, and laugh as I hear the baby cry. Gothi hands me the baby. She takes her staff and draws in the dirt. She says it's a girl.

She hands me my baby girl, and I look down at her. She is still crying.

"What happened to her?" I ask.

'She was alive the whole time, it's just when she came out the blasts must've shocked her, and made her stop crying. It also stopped her heart, but she'll be alright now.'

I sigh. "Thank you Gothi."

She smiles. I see pants Valka must've grabbed for me before we left the hut. Gothi takes my son and daughter as I put the pants on. Then I hold my children close as we wait for the attack to end.
