"Do you have to go?" Snowpaw asks.
"I'm sorry Snowpaw," Silverfur wants to promise she'll stay, promise she'll stay near, or at least visit, but she can't, "I can't hold you back."
"But you won't be!" Snowpaw objects, "you were my mother for several moons. I saw you every day. You helped me so much! Please stay."
"I-" Silverfur looks at her paws, "I wish I could."
"You can!" Snowpaw cries.
They stand together at the border. Snowpaws mother watches from afar.
"I have to go," Silverfur sheds a tear, "I can't stay with you."
"Silverfur," Snowpaw sobs.
Silverfur turns away from him, "goodbye Snowpaw. I will never forget you."
She bounds off away from Thunderclan territory. Her heart aches and tells her to turn back, but she knows she can't.

"Silverfur!" Snowpaw wails, "come back!"
He collapses into a heap of wails and tears on the ground. I may never see her again he weeps to himself, she saved me. I will never forget her.
