i.| First Encounter

The dimming lights flickered above my sitting figure, the soft hum of electricity hitting my ears. Tapping the end of my pencil against the desk that sat beside my bed, I overheard the television blaring the local news channel.

Voices spoke of a strange outbreak taking place in different states across North America, my hometown, Atlanta, included.

I tilted my head back, resting in the seat as a soft sigh passed my dry, slightly chapped lips. Drowning out the sounds present in the room, a piercing ringing soon began in my ears, growing louder as—

The excruciating sound of tires screeching to a sudden halt disturbed my nap as I awoke with a jerk. My heart thumped wildly in my chest as it fully registered as to where we were. Alexandria; a community built up through peace, now struggling to survive.

"You know the drill, grab what we want and keep them from doing anything reckless." Negan began to coach me, explaining the plan for what would be the fourth time today.

"Yes, sir." Replying with an exaggerated eye roll I hoped he'd catch on to how trivial he was being.

"I am aware of what needs to be done. This isn't my first supply run."

With a quick nod and grunt, Negan climbed out of the large truck, boots crunching against the mixture of dirt and gravel. Following him out I quickly slung the strap of my gun over my shoulder as he sauntered towards the entrance. The loud clinging of metal echoed in the distance as he used Lucille to knock upon the gate's bars.

"Little pig, little pig...let me in!" He called out enthusiastically, and I couldn't help but grin at how silly it was. As the gates were being pulled open my eyes briefly caught sight of a large, ginger haired man.

He stood nearby, keeping a watchful eye upon our group. I distinctly recognized him from earlier in the week, when we first stumbled upon the poor group. That fateful night costed them one of their own in a way so brutal I couldn't even watch.

My attention was pulled back to the task at hand when Negan whistled motioning for us to follow, and I did as commanded like any loyal hound should.
