I promise

Okay, this one's based off of a dream I had. (Yes, I dream about Solangelo. And Phan. Also Snowbaz. Sometimes Johnlock. Silence.)

Honestly, this one reminds me of the Joker and Harley Quinn.

Oh, and the place that mental people stay is not at all accurate. It's kind of like an asylum for supervillains. Maybe. Probably not idk it's just a place. Also, I found the poems online.

Nico's POV

"Intoxicated with madness, I'm in love with my sadness," I fall into a fit of giggles. I very much enjoy my strange poems. They are a part of me. I walk around my room. The walls are a plain white and there is only one small hard bed. The sheets are white, too. Everything in this room is white. It's very boring. Just a splash of colour would do.

You see, I'm a... what do the monsters call me? Ah, yes. I'm a patient at a special hospital. I'm special. Special special special! I like the sound of that. However when they call me special, I know that they mean 'mental'. I can't deny it, I am crazy. I can't remember why, but I just am.

My door opens. I turn my head around to see a man about my age with blond curly hair, tan skin, blue eyes and lots of sparkles... I mean freckles. That's what they are. Freckles. He smiles. He closes the door and sits down on the ground. I watch him.

"Nico di Angelo?" He asks. I sit down and scooch over to him. Soon we're face to face. I tilt my head.

"Yes, that is me. Little old me, special me! I have been called special lots of times!" I tell him. I giggle and roll backwards. He just smiles kindly.

"I'm Will. I'm your therapist." I study him. He doesn't look like a therapist. He's wearing a yellow shirt and blue jeans.

"Are you sure?" I question. He chuckles.

"Yes, I'm very sure. Okay, Nico! Let's get started," I frown and lay on my back.

"Do we have to?" I ask him. He tilts his head.

"You want to get better, don't you?" I sigh. I do want to get better and I have tried thousands of times, but it never seems to work.
"What do you like to do for fun?" He asks. I perk up. Nobody asks me that. I sit up and crawl over to him. I sit down in front of him.

"I love making up poems!" I tell him excitedly.

"What kinds of poems?" I think about this.

"Poems that rhyme, poems that don't, all sorts of poems! It's the easiest way for me to communicate with people."

"Would you like to do that then? I ask questions, you answer in poems?" I nod. I like this Will.

"What's something that scares you?" He takes out a notepad and a pen and starts writing.

"Do you hear the whisper men? The whisper men are near. If you hear the whisper men, then turn away your ear. Do not hear the whisper men, whatever else you do. For when you hear the whisper men, they'll stop and look at you," Will looks up from his notepad.

"You're... you're afraid of voices?" Here it comes. The judging.
I nod.

"I'm terrified of them. I pretend like they're my friends so they won't hurt me. But they're always there, the voices. Always have been," he puts his hand on my shoulder.

"It's okay. I know what you mean. I had voices inside my head too. For the longest time. Do you want to know what I did?"

"What did you do?" He takes his hand off my shoulder.

"I accepted it," I frown.

"Accepting is not easy. If it were, I would have accepted the fact that I'm mental.I still haven't. It can be fun sometimes, I'll admit. What with the random giggles and poems, but... it's scary, too. I'm always alone and the people who try to help me... they always leave. Nobody cares about me. They just think I'm another patient, rather than a human being who is sick and scared," I don't know where all of this is coming from. I've never told anybody that. Will frowns. Then smiles.

"I'll be here. I won't leave you, not now, not ever,"

"Promise?" I ask. The next words that come out of his mouth are the words I've always wanted to hear.

"I promise,"

*time skip*

It's been a few months since Will came to help me. He comes every week. He makes me really... happy. He makes me laugh, he comforts me, and none of it feels fake. I poured my soul out to him and he did the same with me. I've gotten better since meeting him. I sit on my bed humming a lullaby my mother used to sing to me when I was a kid. It's called Soldatino (Nico's lullaby), I think. It makes sense why that was my lullaby. Will told me he had to take some time off from seeing me because of family problems. This lullaby is what's kept me... I don't know. Saner than usual.

I hear someone clear their throat. I look up to see Will. He standing by the door wearing an orange shirt, baggy jeans, and a red backpack. My heart pounds in my chest and I smile. I get up from my bed and run over to him, engulfing him in a huge hug. He picks me up and twirls me around causing me to laugh a bit. He sets me down.
"I really missed you," I tell him.

"I missed you too, Neeks." He pulls away, still smiling.
"I have amazing news, Nico!" I tilt my head.
"You're free," I take a step back.

"Free?" I ask. He takes off his backpack and sits down. He pats next to him, signalling he wants me to sit next to him. I do. He opens his backpack and pulls out a laptop. He opens it and the screen turns on. It's a picture of me. He points to the screen.

"This was you ten months ago," he tells me. I study the picture. I'm smiling, but it seems a bit off. My black hair is all over the place and my eyes... they look scary. Will presses a button and the screen changes.
"And this is you the last time I saw you," I'm smiling, but it doesn't look crazy. I look like a regular happy person.
You're free, Nico. Well, almost. You have to stay at a house with someone for a year or so, so you can get used to the modern world again. And guess what? I signed up to keep an eye on you! Which means we'll live together for a year! Isn't that awesome?" I start crying, but I'm not sad. Will puts his arm around me and pulls me close. I hug him.

"I'd never have been able to do it if it weren't for you," I tell him. I am incredibly happy right now, words can't even describe how I feel at the moment. I've been waiting for this moment for almost two years. Will rubs circles on my back.

"Everything is alright, love. Everything is alright,"

*one month later*

Today is the day I leave! I'm so excited! I haven't been outside in such a long time! Will walks in my old room. He's smiling.

"You ready, love?" He calls me love. I love it. I smile and nod my head. I walk next to him and we walk out of the room. I haven't been out in the halls in such a long time. So many rooms with so many people suffering. It's making me nervous. I lace my fingers around Will's and he squeezes my hand. I can't believe this is happening. I'm finally leaving. We walk out of the building and the light is blinding. There's a car waiting for us. Will and I climb in and sit down. I haven't been in a car for the longest time. The man driving looks at us and tells us that the house we'll be staying in is a few hours away. Will and I talk for most of the ride. At one point, I get really tired so I rest my head on Will's shoulder and close my eyes. He wraps his arms around me and I fall asleep. I dream about Will and I taking a walk in a field of flowers.

Will shakes me awake. I yawn.
"Hey." He says gently. I lift my head up and rub my eyes.

"Hi,"

"We're here," he tells me. I unbuckle and climb out of the car. Standing in front of me is a small one level house. Will stands next to me. He twirls some keys around his fingers.
"Ready?" I nod. I run up to the front door with Will close behind. He unlocks the door and we walk in. The walls are red and the floor is brown hardwood. Orange couch and a small coffee table in front of the couch are on the left. Living room. I look to my right. A small kitchen. I run down the halls and find two rooms. One is pure white. I start to feel nauseous and sad and just... nevermind. I veer away from that one. The other is a nice cheery yellow with a master bed. I run back to the living room and see a glass door. I open it and am greeted with a beautiful backyard. I take a deep breath and lay in the grass. It's not as soft or comfortable as I remembered it, but it's there nevertheless and I'm not going to waste my moment. It's breezy and kind of cold today, so I walk back inside.

Will's sitting at the dining table. He smiles.

"So... what do you think?" I jump up and down.

"It's perfect! It's all perfect! Oh and... I call dibs on the yellow room. I don't think I can stand one more day in a pure white room," Will nods. He stands up and walks to the kitchen.

"Coffee or tea? Or water. Or juice?" He asks.

"Hmm... tea?"

"What kind?"

"...Honey?"

"That is doable. I shall be there with tea forthwith."

"Sounds like a plan," I walk over to the couch and sit down. It's the most comfortable thing I have sat in, in a long time. A few minutes later, Will walks in carrying two mugs. He sits next to me and hands me one. I take a sip.

"So... you like our home? Yeah?" I smile because it warms my heart that we can say 'our'. I nod .

"I haven't been this happy since we first became friends," I admit. Will blushes, but still smiles.

"Yeah... me either."

We spend the rest of our evening watching tv and cuddling.

*another time skip cuz I'm lazy af*

I stand up and stretch. I look at Will.
"I'm gonna go to bed. Night."

"Goodnight, Neeks. If you need anything, just let me know."

"I will."

I walk down the hall to the yellow room. I open the door. I got the wrong room. It's the pure white one. I don't know why but I start getting memories from my time at... at that hellhole. I didn't get panic attacks earlier! Why am I getting them now? I try to back away, but it's like my feet are glued to the floor. I start breathing heavily. I try calling for Will, but my voice seems to have given out. I start giggling uncontrollably. My giggling then turns into laughter. I hear footsteps. Will, please find me. Will's stands behind the door.

"...Nico?" He questions. I turn around and face him.
"Nico what's wrong?" He walks up to me, drags me out of the room, and closes the door. I sit down and lean against the wall. My laughter has stopped. Now I'm crying. Sobbing. Will picks me up bridal style and walks to the yellow room. He sets me down on my bed, but I don't let go of him. He is the one thing keeping me sane. I don't want to lose that. Even though he's here, I feel like I would lose everything if I let go. He sits next to me and runs his fingers through my hair while I cry. I hate this. I hate being weak. I'm Nico fugging di Angelo. I shouldn't be crying. I shouldn't be the victim.
"I don't know why they gave us a house with that stupid room. I'm going to have some words with them first thing tomorrow." He assures me.

"This isn't... this isn't what I deserve," I mumble. Will holds me tighter.

"I know, love. You deserve so much better . Everything will be alright."

"Everything will not be alright!" I shout.
"I thought it would be. I thought... I thought I could get better. I thought I could live a normal life. I'll always be haunted by the ghosts of my past and there's no coming back from that." I look up at his eyes.
"I remember, Will. I remember everything."

"What do you remember, love?"

"I remember why I am the way I am. Or... was. I remember why I was the way I was. When I was little... ten years old or so... my mum and older sister died. Murdered, I think. I was there. I was lucky. I escaped. I... I ran away. I had no family, no friends, no proper education. A year later, I found my dad again. With another woman, holding a baby. She had copper skin, I could tell from even far away. My dad made eye-contact with me and he called me his son. I stayed with him for a bit. My step mother died a few months later, which was upsetting because I really liked her. Then my father re-married to this... this... I don't even know what to call her! She was awful. I hated her. And she hated me. She abused me all the time. I once had to go to the hospital because of her. Even then, my father didn't divorce her. So... I ran away again. Then... I got mugged. I think. I got knocked out. My head hit the pavement. I was in a coma for a few years and woke up with the giggles with no memory of what happened to me at all."

Will's crying now too. I wrap my arms around him and smile.

"But... I have you now. I didn't before. And I don't intend on losing you." I tell him firmly. He smiles.

"Good, because I won't let you."

I want to ask him to sleep with me tonight because I'm afraid. I'm scared. I'm lonely. But how does one go about asking their best friend to sleep in the same bed? A poem. That's how. Poems are the easiest way for me to communicate with people, after all.

"Tonight I am sad. Tonight I am lonely. The demons are screaming and I need you to hold me." Will nods. He pulls the covers over us and we lay down. He kisses my head.

"I'll always be here for you. You know that, right?" I nod.

"Promise?"

"I promise," and with that, I fall asleep.

The next morning I wake up to yelling.

"What do you mean you thought he might feel more at home!?" I reach over to Will, but he's not there. What a surprise. I slowly sit up and walk out the door. I see Will in the kitchen having a heated conversation with the monsters (Yes, even after I got better I still call them monsters. It's what they are. Why change anything?) through the phone.
"No, you listen to me! You have no idea what he's been through! I can't believe you would do something like this!... What, you thought I wouldn't be upset? He's my best friend! Of course, I'm upset. It's triggering for him... Yeah, well you're just a son of a bitch who needs to get his head out of his ass for once!" Will ends the call. He looks over at me.

"I'm sorry, love. I didn't mean to wake you," I shake my head and smile.

"No, no. It's okay. That was awesome." I tell him. He blushes.

"It was?" I walk over to him and hug him. He hugs back. I pull away slightly. I bite my lip.

"Can... can I try something?" I ask. Will blushes. He nods. I kiss him. On the lips. Not one of our friendly cheek or head kisses, but a full on legit kiss. He kisses back. The kiss deepens. Gods, I love him so much. We pull away. We're both out of breath. Will smiles.

Somehow, I think I'll make it in this crazy thing called life. After so many years of pain and misery, I'm ready to start again. Day one of the rest of my life starts today.

Yooooooooooooooooooooooo. 'Sup? I don't know what this was but I thought it came out okay so whatever. I hope you all are having a fantastic day! Also, I was thinking I might start a Snowbaz oneshot thing because those two are fugging adorable and you can't tell me otherwise. Thoughts?
