Chapter 2
Chapter 2
"Are you ready?" Mom asked.
"Not really." I said nervously.
We entered through the heavy glass doors. Passed the doors there was a small waiting room. "My daughter is a new student." I heard Mom started to say. I looked around the waiting room while Mom and Dad talked to the lady. There was a table in the far right corner that had magazines. The seats were on both sides of the table and looked really comfy.
"Jaden," I turned around to face my mom and dad, "they want to see us in the principal's office." The lady from the front desk led us to the principal's office.
On the way there were pictures on the walls, of what I assumed, were of every principal that has been at this school. The lady opened the door, "Sir, you have a new student." she told him signaling us to enter.
"Hello, welcome to Arroyo HIgh School!" he said excitingly, "I'm Mr. Murrow the principal of Arroyo High. Please sit down." He said pointing to the two chairs in his office. My dad whispered me to sit down in one of the chairs. I walked toward the seat and sat down.
"I'm glad that you decided to attend Arroyo." Mr. Murrow started to say, "Where'd you come from?"
My dad answered, "Florida."
"Oh, you guys lived in the sunshine state?" My dad nodded. "Great! Let me get your schedule from Nora. Be right back." he said. Just when he was about to walk out the door he asked, "What is your name?" pointing to me.
I stood there for a second and responded, "Jaden Moreno."
This time he left to go tell Nora for my schedule.
Silence.
My palms became draped with sweat for being nervous. A couple of minutes later Mr. Murrow came back with pieces papering his hand, "These papers are for your parents to sign. They are emergency contact forms just in case an emergency happens. And this is your schedule for the rest of the year. Hope you have a good first day." he told me. I grabbed the papers from his hands. I gave the forms to my parents and it turned over my schedule.
SCHEDULE FOR: JADEN MORENO
FIRST PERIOD/SECOND PERIOD: LANGUAGE ARTS with MRS. PENNY
THIRD PERIOD: GEOGRAPHY with MR. TRAVIN
FOURTH PERIOD/LUNCH: PE with MR. HARVIS
FIFTH PERIOD: SCIENCE with MS. HANSEN
SIXTH PERIOD: MATH with MRS. WEISS
SEVENTH PERIOD: ART with MRS. HENS
I turned to face my parents. "Well, I'll leave you guys to say your good-bye's." Mr. Murrow walked towards the door.
I hugged my mom and dad as hard as I could. "Hope you have a great first day." Dad said. Mom gave me a kiss on my cheek. I got up from my seat and turned around to say, "I'll see you after school, bye." And I waved them good-bye.
I easily found my way out of the office. Especially since there was a sign on the wall that said: EXIT TO MAIN HALLWAY ->.
Once I found myself in the main hallway I tried to find my first period class with Mrs. Penny. I kept my eyes wide open for the numbers on the side of the doors. I kept looking back and forth at my paper while looking for the numbers on the side of the doors. I felt being pushed back and forth on my shoulder by everybody passing by. I tried hard not to fall but someone pushed me real hard and I fell to the ground. Before I could touch the floor someone grabbed me by my waist. Some of the papers that were in my arms fell to the ground.
"Sorry I dropped your stuff. Are you new?" I looked up. He had the most gorgeous eyes I had ever seen. They were a beautiful ocean blue. His hair was a messy light brown which made him a really rare type of guy. He was a guy any girl could die for. "Ummm...are you okay?"
I snapped out of sweet heaven, "Uhhh sorry. Yeah I'm new. I'm Jaden. Jaden Moreno." I stretched out my hand.
"I'm Wes." He reached out for my hand. His smile lightened my whole day up. "Here,"
His eyes, his smile... "Thanks."
"No problem." he said looking at one of my papers. "I could show you where your first class is at."
"Sure." He walked in front of me and followed him. My class was just around the corner of the hall.
"Here you go." He handed me my schedule and the rest of my papers.
"Thanks." I turned forward to the whole classroom. The classroom was halfway filled with students, some throwing paper balls at each other or talking to each other in the middle of the room. I turned around me to see if he was still behind to ask him a question, "Do you have-" but he left me talking to myself. He had already left. He didn't even say 'bye' or 'see you later'. I checked the halls to my left and then to my right, but he was nowhere to be seen.
I walked into the classroom toward the teacher. She stood up and looked at me like she was confused and didn't know who I was or what I was doing here. "New student." I told her. That seemed to change the look on her face into a happy smile.
"Welcome," she said putting her arms around me to welcome me with a big hug, "I'm Mrs. Penny your language arts teacher." She let go of me and I handed her my schedule, "Great! Please take a seat next to Riley at the end of the room." She said pointing to a girl at the end of the room listening to her iPod.
I walked up to her trying to avoid being hit by paper balls. Mrs. Penny was nothing as I imagine her. I thought she'd be an old lady with glasses. She looked like she was in her mid-30's. With her curled up hair, spring dress, and high heels she looked even younger than she was.
I stood in front of Riley. She slowly looked up from her iPod, "Hi, I'm Riley." she said taking her earphones off and putting them in her sweater pocket.
"Hi." I said back to her. She looked pretty with her jet black hair that was below shoulder length. The features on her face were beautiful co spidering the fact that she had a zit-free face. She was wearing a gray hoodie sweater, skinny jeans, and ballet flats.
I sat in the empty seat right next to her. "You're new, right?" she asked. I nodded my head. "Where'd you come from?"
"From Florida." I said.
"You lived in the sunshine state?" she said with her eyes widening in shock. "Are the beaches beautiful?"
"Yeah they are," I started to say; "You've never been there?"
She started to lower her head but then she quickly looked up and said, "No." "Okay everybody, please take your seats and take out your poetry books," Mrs. Penny said to everyone in the class. I looked around and every one took out their poetry books. "Riley can you please get an extra book from the back closet?"
Riley stood up and went to open a closet at the end of the room. She brought back a book. The cover had a snail crawling on a tree.
"Now please open to page 21." Mrs. Penny put on her reading glasses as she was about to read, "Jaden," I looked at her, "we are reading poetry and if you'd like to read let me know." I shook my head, "Okay, everybody who would like to start?" Mrs. Penny looked around the room. "Oscar, why don't you start?" she said.
Everyone turned around to the side of the room. I turned around to see a guy with shoulder length hair staring at me. "I'd be glad to, Mrs. Penny," he said. Every one turned back to face their book. "There is a place where the sidewalk ends," he began to read. "And before the street begins and there the grass grows soft and white and there the sun burns crimson bright."
"Oww!" whispered Riley. I turned around to see what hit her. She picked up a crumbled piece of paper.
"What is that?" I whispered to her.
"It's a note," she opened it up. I couldn't see what it said.
"Can I see it?" She gave me the crumbled up piece of paper, and I grabbed it from her. It said:
Hey Riley who's the new chick? She's hot.
"Who wrote this?" I told her.
She turned to the last table in the corner. "Lucas," she whispered.
I turned to where she was facing. Lucas was almost bald, but you could still notice he still had hair. I noticed that he had blue eyes and looked buff as a football player. "Riley is there something you'd like to say to the class?" Mrs. Penny asked.
"No, Mrs. Penny." she said. Mrs. Penny didn't look very convinced, but she changed the subject.
"Okay, class lets-" The bell rang and cut her off, "Oh, have a nice day." She said. I asked Riley about Lucas, "whose Lucas?"
"He's this guy on the football team that is jerk." She said. "What do you have next period? Can I see your schedule?"
We were out of Mrs. Penny's class and were in the hallway. I handed her my schedule. She took it and just stared at it.
"I have you for fourth, sixth, and lunch." She said, "I can show you Mr. Harver's class if you want?"
"Sure." I followed her to a room down the hall from Mrs. Penny. "Thanks." I told her.
"I'll see you later." She said and went to her class.
I entered the room. The classroom didn't have many students. I was guessing that maybe because it was still early, but soon everyone came. "Hello." Mr. Harver said, "May I please see your schedule?" I handed him my schedule. "Please take a seat in any empty seat.
I smiled.
"Sorry I dropped your stuff. Are you new?" He had the most gorgeous eyes... "I'm Wes." His name was Wes.
