Chapter 23
Two weeks...
I saw Wes talking to a girl. She was talking to him weirdly. I walked over, "Hey, Wes we need to talk."
"Don't you see we're talking," she exclaimed, "he's not your boyfriend."
"He's not yours either." I said.
"He'll soon be mine." She said.
"Hey, don't talk to her like that she just got out of the hospital, Rachel." Wes said. "Why do you defend her?" Rachel asked, "She's not even pretty and now she has memory loss, even better."
"At least people like me." I said.
She looked at me with an ugly face and then she pushed me hard onto the floor. "Rachel, what is wrong with you?" he said. He helped me get up.
"What do you see in her?"
"Hey, what's going on?" Lucas interrupted. Then he saw me on the ground. "Rachel did you do this?" he said. She didn't say anything.
"Are you okay?" Wes asked.
"My head hurts." I touched my forehead.
"Let's take you to the nurse." He helped me up and walked with me to the nurse. The nurse gave me a pill and a glass of water. "I'm sure with this you'll be better." She told me. Wes walked in, "How are you feeling?"
"A little bit better. Thanks."
"Before," he ran his hand through his hair, "Rachel pushed you, you said something. What did you want to talk about?"
"We're almost a month from the car crash and I still don't remember. I don't think..." I couldn't finish. I felt something stuck in my throat so I cleared my throat and continued, "I don't think we can be together like this, with me."
"We have to keep on trying. You can't just give up." He ran his hand through his hair again. "What if...if we start fresh?" he suggested, "Like a first date."
"A first date?" I said.
"Yeah, what about tonight?"
"Tonight?"
"We can start fresh and pretend that none of this happened." "Alright." I said. The bell rang. "I gotta go. I'll see you tonight." He left the room. As soon as I got home I took a shower. I wore a striped crop tee over a white tank top and dark skinny jeans. I also wore my black ballet flats and let my hair down. I walked downstairs until Wes came. Meanwhile, I grabbed my nail polish from my drawer and started to paint my nails lavender. Wes rang the doorbell right after my nails dried. "Jaden it's for you!" Dad screamed. I went to the front door to find Wes with a pretty red rose. "Thanks." I smiled.
"Ready?" he asked.
"Yeah, let's go." I said heading outside.
"Have fun, but not too much fun." Dad said after we left the door. "Thanks Dad." I said. "Where are we going?" I asked him.
"To the very first place we ate together."
"Where is it?"
"You'll see."
"Do you I like that place?"
"From what you ate last time, I'm guessing yes."
"What did I eat?"
"You ate almost 3 full plates of food."
Then the radio played Drive By by Train. Wes turned the volume up and started to sing, "On the other side of a street I knew, stood a girl that looked like you, I guess that's déjà vu, But I thought this can't be true, 'cause you moved to west LA, or New York or Santa Fe, or wherever to get away from me." I busted out laughing. "What?" he asked, "I know you like it!" he smiled. He continued singing with his squeaky, uneven voice, "Oh but that one night was more than just right I didn't leave you 'cause I was all through, oh I was overwhelmed and frankly scared as hell because I really fell for you. Oh I swear to you I'll be there for you, this is not a drive by just a shy guy looking for a two-ply." I just kept on looking at him enjoying his singing. Soon as the song was over we arrived to the restaurant. "What's this place called?" I asked as he helped me out of the car. "Applebee's." We walked in and took a seat at a table next to the windows.
"What would you two like to order?" the waitress asked.
"I'll take the cowboy burger." Wes said. I just looked at the menu. "She'll take the bacon cheddar cheeseburger." Wes said for me.
The waitress took our menus, "Drink?" she said.
"Coke." Wes answered.
"Do I usually order that cheeseburger?" I asked him.
"No, but they're really good. Trust me you'll like them."
The waitress brought our drinks, "Your food is coming." She looked at him with a smile in her eyes. She looked like she was in her early 20's. "If there's anything I can get for you..." "No thanks." He said. Another waitress brought our food.
"Thank you." I said.
Wes looked at me, "Take a bite. I want to see your reaction."
I grabbed my burger and took a bite. I chewed and swallowed, "Wow! This is really good!" I said.
"I knew you'd like it."
"Now take your bite."
He took his bite, "Good!" he put two thumbs up. "You want a bite?" he asked.
I grabbed his burger and took a bite, "Yummm." Then I gave him my burger to try it. "Mmmmm." He said. He grabbed the burger so hard that it made the sauce, lettuce, onions, tomato, and pickles fall out. "Oops." He looked at the stuff that had fallen. I threw a French fry at him, "Oh!" I said.
"That's how it's going to be, huh?" he smiled and grabbed a French fry and threw it. It got stuck in between my hair and I tried getting it out.
Wes started laughing and made me start laughing.
After the messed up burger, we ate it and ordered dessert. "A triple chocolate meltdown, please." Wes ordered.
The waiter brought the dessert and two spoons. I grabbed a spoon and took a sample. "This is sooo good!" I said.
"Can I have a piece?" Wes asked. I grabbed a piece from the same spoon and gave it to him, "Really good."
After we finished, "Do you want to go to the dance club?" he asked me.
"Sure." I said.
We left the restaurant and headed towards the dance club. We got in and the music was very loud. Lights flashing all over the room and the music pounded in my ears. We sat at a table next to a window.
"Do you want something to drink?" he asked.
"Coke." I answered. He left and I listened to the music playing, I Like It by Enrique Iglesias. There was a crowd of people dancing in the middle of the room. He came back with 2 drinks in his hand, "Here you go."
"Thanks." I said. Then the music started to change.
"Wanna dance?" he asked. I nodded my head.
We walked to the dance floor and the dj started to play We Run The Night by Havana Brown and Pitbull. I let the music flow through my body. I swooshed my head side to side and jumped around. Minutes later the dj changed the song to Scream by Usher. "Let me hear everybody scream!" the dj said. The whole club started to scream. "Whooo!" I screamed also. I let the music speak to me and let my body move to the rhythm of the song. After we danced a little bit we went back to our table. "I'll be right back." Wes said disappearing into the crowd. He came back, "I'm back." "Where did you go?" I asked.
"You'll see. Want to go dance?"
We walked back to the crowd of people and then What Makes You Beautiful played. "For all those beautiful ladies." The dj said, "but this song is dedicated to Wes's special lady, Jaden Moreno."
Wes grabbed my hand and we started to slow dance. "I know this isn't the type of song for slow dancing, but it explains everything." He said. I smiled. We slow danced to the rest of the song until the dj changed the song to Let's Go by Calvin Harris and Ne-yo. Then we started to get dancing again. I felt comfortable with dancing. I twirled and twirled with Wes as if I've done it my whole life.
After that song we walked to our table. I took a sip from my coke. "Wow! You can dance!" he said.
"Why? I used to not dance?" I said.
"Not really. You used to say that you couldn't dance. It's just nice to see you different." "So you like me before or now?"
"I like both, but now you're so danceable!" He made me chuckle.
"Hey! Look who we have here." Lucas walked to our table. "What are you guys doing here?" he asked.
"We're on a date." Wes answered.
"Oh. A first date? It's a waste of your time. She's not going to fall in love with you the way she did before because you're trash, dirt, a loser."
"Don't talk to him like that." I told Lucas.
"She's supposed to be with me." Lucas screamed.
"She said back off!" Wes pushed Lucas on his shoulder. "Don't touch me!" Lucas screamed. Then he threw his hand to Wes's face. I got up and gently touched Wes's lip, "What's wrong with you?"
"You're worth more than being with this loser." He said.
"I think we should leave." I told Wes.
"Let's go." He said. We got up and Wes grabbed my hand while I followed him behind. "We're not done with this!" I heard Lucas say as we left.
When we were standing in front of the door I said, "It's chilly." I started to rub my arms. "Here take my jacket." He started to take off his jacket.
"But don't you need it?" I asked.
"It's okay." I put it on and we walked to the car.
On our way home, "I had fun." I told him when we were on my drive way. He didn't say anything. "I think you should come inside cause your lip is bleeding again." He got out of the car and went inside. I took a cotton ball from the bathroom and some alcohol. I slowly dabbed the cotton ball with alcohol on Wes's lip.
"Sssst." He made a hurtful face. I kept dabbing until it stopped bleeding. "It stings." He said. "I'm done." I looked at the red cotton balls on the table. I gently rubbed his injured lip and then I gave him a kiss on his lips. He smiled, "I feel a lot better." He said. He grabbed my hand and intertwined mine with his.
"I'm sorry for what happened at the club."
"It wasn't your fault. Lucas started it." He got closer and hugged me. "You can still make it up." I took my phone out of my pocket and started playing the song I last listened to, Secrets by One Republic. He grabbed my hand and we started to slow dance. "On our very first date we slow danced-"
"To this song?" I finished.
"No, but its close." He said.
"Even though I don't remember our first date I think this was the best first date." "Does that mean-" I nodded my head and smiled. "Oh my gosh! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!" He said. He picked me up and carried me in his arms.
"Where are you taking me?" I asked.
"To your room."
"What are we going to do?" I got worried when we got to my room.
Wes put me down on my bed and sat down next to me. "You didn't think...we were going to...?"
"I did think that a second ago, but I guess I was wrong." I sat up, "Then why did we come here?" I asked.
"I just felt sleepy and your bed is the comfiest." He laid down.
"I know it's the best." I also laid down.
"I like your stars on the ceiling." He looked up.
"They look even better with the lights turned off." I got up and turned off the light. I laid down again and looked up. The stars glowed in the dark.
"Wow." Wes whispered, "I think they even look better than the real ones."
I turned to look at Wes. I admired his face and skin. His side view of his face looked really cute. He looked cute looking at the stars.
Then he saw me and said, "What?" He looked like he had done something. "Nothing." I replied.
"No you were looking at me."
"I was just admiring your face." I looked up at the stars.
"Why?" He kind of smiled.
I tried to not look at him so he wouldn't see anything suspicious. "Cause you had something on your face."
"Really? Or is it because you find me so irresistible?" he smiled.
I kind of chuckled, "You're not that hot."
"Oh c'mon. I know you don't think that. Every girl thinks that."
"Really? Some girls don't even talk to you."
"That's because they know that I'm dating someone and they're afraid you'll get jealous." I busted out laughing. Then Wes looked at me and he also started laughing. "You may not believe it, but it's true. I only have eyes for you." he came closer to me.
"I think we should go to sleep." I started to yawn.
