I have been warned to advise that the beginning scene might be a slight trigger, but don't worry it doesn't last long, there isn't much detail and no one dies. So please read on.

People have many ways of saying 'I love you'.

She couldn't breath, not out of nerves or fear, no. She was currently in an interrogation with her head underwater. A rough hand grabbed at the hair of the back of her head pulling her from under the water and she gulped the air.

"So, are you ready to tell us what we want to know little (A/T)?" a husky voice asked.

She glanced at the dusty red hedgehog who was asking the questions, as his dog henchman still clutched the back of her head. Her arms were tied behind her and she was on her knees in front of a bath filled with water in an old abandoned warehouse that had a living quarters.

Despite her situation she just looked at the hedgehog through her dripping strands of hair and gave a breathy chuckle.

"You can keep washing my hair for me... but I'm not telling you a thing." she replied with a whisper of a smirk.

"Again." the hedgehog ordered.

(Y/N) was only just able to take in one last breath of air before her head was pushed back into the water, she jerked around until she was pulled up again.

"I'll ask you one last time sweetheart, what are the G.U.N entrance codes?" the hedgehog asked for about the tenth time.

"Then I shall tell you for the last time, I'm not telling you." she stated.

"That's it, drown her!" the hedgehog ordered.

"Not this time." she smirked.

Before any move could be made (Y/N) snapped the ropes and knocked out the dog with her elbow before swiftly standing up and delivering a round house kick the the back of the hedgehogs neck, he too collapsed to the ground unconscious.

Humming to herself (Y/N) picked up her gun that had been taken from her slinging it into her holster, and was going to leave through door, but it was nicely knocked down for her, and it fell down with a loud,

*BANG!*

She got in a battle stance but dropped immediately when her partner Shadow walked through over the broken door.

"Shadow!" she greeted cheerily.

She could see him sigh in relief before looking around the room, seeing the two sleeping boys, the bath full of water and (Y/N)'s wet hair he quickly put the puzzle together.

"Now this isn't as bad as it looks." she started.

He gave a low growl as he stepped towards her and grabbed her wrist.

"Back to G.U.N, now."

~ Later, in a G.U.N medical room ~

"What did you expect to achieve undertaking that part of the mission alone?" Shadow asked, his arms folded.

"I expected to complete the mission, which I did." She answered with a nod.

"Before you got interrogated." He shot back.

She would have explained her point but-

"We both know your more than capable of getting out of a situation like that, and that you didn't do so so that you could get more Intel." He continued to scold.

"And I did get more Intel, that hedgehog was the leader of the gang we've been trying to get. Now the gang is finished." She stated.

"Be that as it may you still took an unnecessary risk." He snapped a little.

"Says the guy who jumped over lava last week." She mumbled like a child.

"That was to retrieve a Chaos Emerald." he stated.

"And I let those guys think they'd caught me to retrieve Intel, all is well and ends well and I'm ready to go home." she smiled hopping up from her seat.

Shadow let out a rare sigh, knowing he wouldn't win.

"Fine, but I'm taking you home myself."

Now (Y/N) knew she couldn't win this fight, besides she found it fun to ride his motorbike. It was a quick ride but it was nice not to walk for once.

"Thanks for the ride Shadow." she said getting off the bike.

"Well it's the only way I could make sure that you'd stay out of trouble." he said in the usual monotone voice.

"See you tomorrow then." she smiled.

"See you tomorrow, and be sure to get some sleep." he said before riding off.

He's always like that, she thought. He'd say things to her regarding her welfare, nothing he'd ever say to anyone else.

Everyday when she came in to work he would ask her: "did you get home safely?"

After she'd had lunch he would say: "I hope you had a decent sized meal."

And if they ever had to split up during a mission he would tell her: "be safe"

Much good that did during the last mission though...

The following day (Y/N) was at G.U.N HQ as usual, she walked into the weapons room and saw Shadow as usual cleaning and reloading some of his many guns. Naturally walking up to him she too picked up a magazine and started to load it with bullets.

"Did you get home okay?" she asked him.

He said kind things to her so she would be sure to return the favor.

"Of course I did, I take care of myself just as well as you can." he said in the same voice.

She smiled at the concealed compliment.

"Well when I chose to." he added with a trace of a smirk.

She gave him a playful shove laughing a little. Little did they know though the usual troublesome bat was watching with a sweet smirk.

"Have we got a mission today?" she inquired.

"No, unless we get called for one. Although we should be interrogating that hedgehog from yesterday but they gave another agent that job." he said, obviously annoyed.

"Well the commanders not stupid, he knows if you were left alone with the thug that you'd tear him apart."

The pair looked behind to see it was Rouge who had provided the latest comment.

"Don't be stupid, at most I would deliver him a few broken bones." Shadow said.

(Y/N) burst out laughing at that.

"Come on were wasting time, we should be doing some training." he said headed to the training area.

(Y/N) would have followed him if Rouge hand't lightly grabbed her wrist.

"Anything the matter Rouge?" she asked.

"Nothings wrong Hun, but let me just tell you this. People have many ways of saying 'I love you'." Rouge said with a wink.

Before (Y/N) could question what she meant Rouge just gave her signature devilish smile before sassily walking out.

"W-what do you mean by that!?" (Y/N) called after her.

Thanks to Rouge's comment (Y/N) spent the rest of the next hour or so in training in a muddle of the mind, what had Rouge meant by that? As she spent the time training she struggled to focus trying to figure out exactly what Rouge had meant, but she slowly realized what Rouge had meant, but Shadow? No! That was ludicrous! W-why her!?

"(Y/N) what's up with you? Your aim has been off since we started training." Shadow interrupted her thoughts.

"Oh! Uh... nothing, I swear." she answered hoping he wouldn't catch on something was wrong.

But she let out a silent sigh of relief when both their wrist communicators started beeping indicating a call.

"Agents Shadow and (Y/N) your required for a mission, you have three minuets to prepare and then head out to the coordinates sent to your communicators."

Not hesitating the two went away to prepare, and (Y/N) was glad for the excuse to leave the training room, in a secret blushing mess.

Meanwhile though Rouge sauntered after Shadow how had headed to the weapons room to get ready and he tried to usher her away telling her to get ready for the mission, which she eventually did. But not before she repeated her message to him, and he had a similar reaction.

And she once again went away giggling going to get ready for the mission. But just after Rouge left (Y/N) came back just in time to see Rouge walk away and seeing Shadow's rigid posture she knew all too well what Rouge had said to him.

She would have happily ran for the hills knowing what Rouge had suggested to him but they had a mission to get on with and complete.

"Shadow, are you ready to go?" she asked him.

Hearing her voice his posture returned to normal and he finished loading his gun before putting it in his holster and turning to face her.

"Yeah, come lets go. We're wasting time."

So Shadow, (Y/N), Rouge and Omega left for the mission and it went well, seeming though it was a simple enough task of apprehending the few left of the gang they had ended. But (Y/N) was the risk taker again tackling a gang member who pulled out a gun, and it was only her quick reflexes that saved her being shot and tacking the gang member to the ground.

After that the mission was finished they of course headed back to G.U.N HQ but Shadow was anything but happy, so he confronted (Y?N) about the mission with just the pair of them in the weapons room.

"You took a unnecessary risk, again." he snapped at her.

"Well what was I mean to do? Just let the guy shoot you?" she defended herself.

"We're all very capable of defending ourselves-

"But it wasn't just us there were civilians as well!"

"Oh would you two just tell each other that you love each other!"

Springing into a blush the pair both snapped their gaze to the door way just in time to see Rouge saunter off her giggle being heard.

Pleased with her work she left the two confess and passed Omega in the corridor.

"Well if that doesn't make them confess to each other then I don;t know what will." she said to Omega, as the troublesome twosome had been trying to get the pair together for a while now.

"Should I commence planning wedding arrangements?" Omega asked.

"Nah, I'd give it a couple of years first."
