Shadow x reader: Paperwork
You are a (A/T)
No matter the conflict there will always be a considerable amount of paper work after ward.
*Tap* *Tap* *Tap*
*Rustle* *Flip*
*Scribble* *Scribble*
These were the constant sounds made at the desk Shadow was sat at as he typed up constant reports, flipped through past paper reports and scribbling things out he had written up about. Yes being a G.U.N agent gave him a sense of duty and purpose but sometimes the amount of paper work that came with every mission could be fucking annoying.
Any mission he came with practically came with seven pages each needing 500 words minimum, so you do the math of how many boring sentences he needed to repeat, detailing how he took down villains with about as much skill as a toddler in combat techniques. The perfect way to spend ones evening.
As he did a combination of writing and typing he became aware of a small weight on his right shoulder.
"What are you doing?" a sweet voice asked resting her chin on his shoulder peering at the very dull looking words.
"Paperwork." he replied simply.
Knowing all too well was his girlfriend whom he shared a house with.
"But you rarely have to do any paper work." (Y/N) commented lifting her chin.
"Omega wasn't part of this mission so he couldn't upload his visual records as evidence the mission was completed." He explained.
"Oh, I see."
But just then a Chao with features very similar to the hard working hedgehog came on top of the desk, entertaining himself by flipping through some of the papers. Picking up a near my pen and pretending it was a sword.
"Not now Shade." Shadow huffed.
Grabbing his troublesome Chao by the scruff of his neck he pulled him off the desk before he could mess up the desk even more.
And Shade's response was to give a few irritated 'Chao's'. Which could have been translated as 'but I want to play!'
"Aww, don't be hard on him Shadow. He's been itching for a play all day." (Y/N) giggled at the pair.
"Then why don't you play with him?" Shadow asked, just wanting to get his work done.
"He's being picky today, and besides he always acts like this when you have paperwork." She continued to chuckle.
As they spoke though Shade had started to poke Shadow's quills as a way to get his attention. He gave a small growl at his irritating pet.
"I-I'll make you some coffee." (Y/N) offered, quickly exiting to the kitchen before she burst into laughter not wanting to piss him off more.
No, Shade was doing a grand job at that.
Shadow muttered swear words under his breath at Shade as he continued to be the definition of pain in the ass.
He then had the epiphany to once again grab the Chao by the scruff of the neck and wrap him up in a near by blanket, and plop him down on the sofa in the other room.
Of course Shade gave several angry 'Chao's' before getting to the difficult task of liberating himself from the warm restraints.
With him out the way Shadow returned to his oh so fun paperwork. (Y/N) came back it a few seconds later with a cup of steaming coffee and gently placed it onto he desk. Even though Shadow didn't need to eat or drink but that didn't mean he couldn't enjoy some foods and drinks.
"Why is Shade wrapped up in a blanket like it's a straight jacket?" she asked amused at the little thing arguing with a length of polyester.
"He wouldn't stop pissing me off." he answered.
"Okay... so how long do you think all this will take?" (Y/N) wondered.
"Well the less time you spend speaking to me the more time I'll have to get this done." he replied in his usual practical way.
"But you still didn't answer my question." she continued, knowing all too well that she was on the brink of annoying him as well.
It was odd because with Shadow most of the time being considered dark and quiet and (Y/N) classically appearing bouncy and cheerful, the pair seemed to balance each other out.
"Maybe I can help!" she suddenly offered.
"I'm fine thanks." he declined, secretly not wanting to bother her.
Even though with (Y/N) being medical staff at G.U.N meant she probably filled out even more complicated pieces of paperwork. But with her employment you don't even have to wonder how the two of them met.
"Come on, it can't be that hard." she persisted, reaching over snatching a piece of paper from the desk.
"I said I'm fine." he clarified snatching the paper back.
"You need to start excepting help when it's given to you!" she scolded him being able to swipe away another piece of paper.
"Technically you shouldn't be reading these reports." he tried to reason with her, a competition of him snatching the papers she kept picking up before she had the chance to skim read them.
"Yeah, yeah, I know I'm just a nurse." she giggled still swiping papers.
But some where in the constant battle of 'swipe it and give it back' (Y/N)'s constant quick motions towards the desk ended up in her losing her balance, so she toppled into Shadow, who tried to help her regain her balance, and failed, so they both ended up on the floor in a mess with the knocked over chair.
"Your fault...." (Y/N) mumbled as she lay on her chest on his back in a sideways position.
"How exactly is it my fault?" he asked.
"You being stubborn and not excepting my help." she explained.
"I think you the stubborn one here." he commented.
No reply.
"Now can you please get off me?" Shadow requested.
"No." she said simply, the smile clear as day in her voice.
"And you just proved my point." he said.
But he wasn't annoyed, it was very rare that he was actually properly annoyed at her and the same for her with him.
And she waited a little nervously knowing that Shadow would do something in a second....
"Fine, if your not going to get up."
In one swift movement Shadow had gotten up and picked (Y/N) up before putting her down on the sofa, also wrapped up in a blanket. It was getting a bit of a habit to put things that stopped him working in blankets, was what he thought as he went back to the desk and back to work.
Meanwhile (Y/N) who had just gotten over her jet leg was poking her tongue out at Shade who was laughing at her being in the same position he was, not moments ago. Needless to say she then started to break her soft barrier, but man.... Shadow had good folding skills.
A struggle and shuffle later she was free and Shadow was notified of this as he heard a....
*THUMP!*
"Ow....." as she fell off the sofa.
He allowed himself a secret smile at her behaviour, she seemed to be the only person who could make him smile.
So as he sent of the last emails of the electronic he was glad that he could stop wasting his evening and spend it with her. But all of a sudden the lights went off.
"Not my fault!" (Y/N)'s voice came from the other room.
Letting a small chuckle escape his lips he walked into the sitting room easily figuring out that there had been a power cut, and with his excellent eye sight saw (Y/N) kneeled in front of the fire place with Shade on top of her head. He held a torch as (Y/N) tried to strike a match to light some tinder.
She might as well be practical and give them both a source of light and heat. Well she would, if she could strike one of these bloody matches.
"Give them here." he said gently taking the matches from her hand.
One strike later and the fire was starting to burn nicely.
"Of course you can do it one go." she huffed a childish way.
After trying to flip the fuses that did nothing there house might as well have been transformed into a warm cabin with a snowy back drop as they cuddled in front of the fire all night long. With Shade of course. The paper work left their minds as they focused on the dancing flames and each others warmth.
