Shadow x reader: Rumours
This one is based on a fan headcannon that due to Maria Shadow enjoys 'girlie' things.
You are a (A/T)
That's what boys do or that's what girls do. No its what anyone can do.
A shrill bell rang throughout the locker laced high school corridors as the liberated students leaked out of the classroom content with their 40 minute lunch break before the torture resumed. Some made a dash to the cafeteria, ran off to the library to hurriedly complete homework due in the next lesson, and then there were the regulars who stood in one pace clogging the corridors.
As usual however Shadow was the last to leave the classroom, leaving the room with several text books under his arm he felt something brush against his wrist, holding it up he gave a quiet grumble at seeing his cuff button had fallen off. He silently cursed at himself for not fixing it the previous day when he'd spotted it. Although, it did give him an excuse.
So not needing to buy any food, not caring for the crowded rooms as a result he made his own lunch, he headed to the design and technology block. But despite the fact he was walking with his own company, it was still aggravating as he caught onto the talk of the other students about him.
"Apparently if you look directly into his eyes you get cursed."
"I bet he only eats meat seeming though he's so well built."
"Word is when he's not studying he's training and working out and that he barely sleeps."
"He's just so hard to figure out."
In his head he mentally swore and screamed at them to shut up, knowing however that if he said anything a new rumour would only start up that he had intense hearing, when in actual fact it wasn't hard at all to hear what they were saying when they were talking in such loud whispers. Blocking out the other various rumours Shadow made it to the textiles block, heading upstairs to the first floor where the textiles rooms were.
Giving a quick knock on the door he went inside, the classroom holding several desks and sewing machines lining the back wall on a counter, along with a large work desk at the other end of the room. It was empty apart from one (A/T) sat at the counter sewing a seam of an item at the machine.
She glanced up and seeing who the visitor was gave a smile before asking "Oh hey Shadow, what brings you to the realm of threads and ribbons today?" her eyes back on her work.
"A button fell off my cuff."
"Well you know where everything is right?"
"Yeah."
Opening a draw from the equipment draw Shadow borrowed a needle and reel of thread before taking a seat at a random desk and started to mend the cuff. Meanwhile (Y/N) finished her seam and holding up the item it appeared to be a half made dress. She mounted it onto a manikin standing back to look at her work in progress, before going to Shadow as he stitched away.
"I've said it before but I still find it impressive that you can mend your own clothes. Not many guys do." she started a conversation perching on a nearby desk.
"There shouldn't be anything impressive about it, it's a basic skill both genders should know." he answered not looking up from his stitches.
"Yeah I know, sadly not all guys see it that way. They just come barging in here demanding us textiles students fix their torn blazers."
"Hmm."
"Okay what's wrong, you're usually up for more of a conversation that this."
Even though there were many rumours about Shadow whispered loudly about the school, there were none concerning as to why he visits the technology block so often. It had started at the beginning of the school year. Barely a week into the new year and Sonic and Knuckles had started a spar, it being friendly banter or proper fights was unknown.
Although he wouldn't normally Shadow broke the two up and his blazer got torn in the process, leading him to search for a textiles room so he could borrow a needle and thread. (Y/N) had been in the textiles room at lunch using one of the sewing machines, at first thinking she'd have to mend the blazer.
But pleasantly surprised when Shadow was more than capable of doing it himself. Since then he often came to the textiles classroom to get away from the hectic lunch times of the school. And (Y/N) was more than often always here, due to her always using the school sewing machines seeming though though she was saving up for her own.
"I thought you were left handed."
"I'm ambidextrous."
"Huh?"
"I can use both hands just as well."
Despite the button having come off on his left sleeve he had no trouble being ambidextrous, although it did prove annoying when he had to make sure to always use his left hand as not to start another rumour.
"So are you going to tell me why you're not as talkative today?"
Letting out a rare sigh Shadow vaguely explained how he yet again heard various rumours about him. He usually wouldn't be this bothered by same empty words of other students, but it was the fact all the rumours couldn't be any further from the truth.
Shadow was anything but cursed. He always ate well but having a fast metabolism didn't hesitate to eat junk food, seeming though all there had been on the ARK was packaged food. Studying wasn't very hard due to his brain being programmed to retain information efficiently, and although he did often train he was also fond of sleeping.
Yet for some reason his appearance and lack of social skills made him into all the spread rumours.
"You know if the rumours bother you that much why don't you just correct everyone?"
"Because if I did that I get the feeling they'd either not believe me either that or die of shock."
"Well at least if they all died of shock they'd leave you alone." (Y/N) shrugged "Oh that reminds me mum gave me a load of misshaped cookies which got rejected from the bakery. Want some?"
"Yes please."
The issue for (Y/N) was was that she just couldn't understand as to why so many rumours about Shadow went around the school. He wasn't hard to figure out at all, not when you got close enough to him.
It was the next day and (Y/N) was sat in her maths class, not caring at all for the sums apart from those which let her figure out the circumference of someone's waist. Then when the teacher handed this weeks homework she immediately knew she'd have to borrow (B/F)'s maths homework to copy.
The ringing bell let the students go to lunch and (Y/N) of course headed to the textiles classroom, but as she headed there her ears seemed far more alert than usual, wanting to see if what Shadow said was true. And as it turned out, it was.
"Did you hear Shadow 'accidentally' bust open a punching bag today in PE. He must be super strong."
"He's such an emo."
"Word is he doesn't eat."
"Forget that he doesn't eat I hear he doesn't even sleep."
For some reason (Y/N) felt herself growing angry. Why am I getting so angry at them all? There just stupid rumours, and anyway I know the truth. But it was because she knew the truth that she was getting so aggravated, as they were all too clueless to think Shadow was an actual person. No wonder he was annoyed yesterday.
Then all of a sudden before she could stop herself (Y/N) took in a deep breath and yelled at all the students in the corridor.
"MAYBE YOU LOT SHOULD TRY TALKING TO HIM RATHER THAN GOSSIPING ABOUT HIM ALL THE TIME!"
There was a sudden hush which (Y/N) took as her cue to leave with her slightly cherry muzzle, I can't believe I did that.
"How did she even know who we were talking about?" she heard one of the dazed students mutter.
"It wasn't exactly hard to guess!" she yelled back, before finally heading to the technology department.
Making her way over there though she looked up and saw Shadow ahead of her. He got a head start on me today, she chuckled mentally. Seeing he was occupied with reading off a piece of paper she smirked at a sudden idea.
Shadow himself was scanning the questions of his biology homework which he had been given. Too concentrated to notice (Y/N) sneak up behind him. She covered his eyes with his hands, instantly blocking Shadow's sight.
"Guess wh-
(Y/N) was cut off as she was suddenly pinned against the wall Shadow firmly holding the collar of her blazer. As quick as it had happened Shadow had come to his senses and quickly yet gently let go of (Y/N), instantly apologizing.
"I'm, I'm sorry."
(Y/N) still shocked, no terrified, had to be quick and ignore her shaking legs.
"I-it's okay..." she said timidly "I should have known, known better than to sneak of you." she tried to chuckle masking her obvious shock.
"No I'm sorry, I should know there aren't any threats at a school."
"Well I should know you have brilliant reflexes."
"It's not that. And stop making excuses for me. I shouldn't have done it and I apologise."
"What do you mean 'it's not that'?" (Y/N) asked ignoring the other half on his sentence.
"I don't appreciate my sight being hindered, in other words I am not comfortable in the dark." he answered without hesitation.
In fact he answered so fast that it surprised (Y/N), seeming though it had taken most of the year to get this close to him. Yet she had yet to learn that he didn't care for the dark because it was the first thing he was aware of when he was created. It was dark for so long until he was activated.
"Okay, then I accept you apology and apologise myself." she smiled.
"I told you don't have to apologise."
"Yeah well I want to." she shrugged as they started making their way to the textiles classroom.
"But you don't need to."
"Would it help if I said it another language?"
"No."
And just like that things were back to normal.
~The Next Day~
It was finally a Friday and the students didn't hesitate to leave that day. But there were a few who stayed behind, including (Y/N). She didn't usually stay behind after school but the dress she was sewing she was planning to wear this weekend for a family members wedding. Thankfully all she needed to do was sew the hem of the lining of the skirt. It didn't take her long but by the time she finished looking out the window it was pitch black.
"It can't be that late can it?"
Looking at the clock school had only ended an hour ago but then again it was also winter and by the sounds of it there was a storm outside. She then heard her phone go off in her bag, checking it it was a text from her mum, telling her to stay inside the school and that she would come pick her up as there was a storm warning.
(Y/N) didn't mind at all as a lift home was far better than standing at a bus stop in the rain waiting for a late bus. So she took a seat with her new dress in her school bag contently waiting. And then all the lights went off.
Of course there was that initial shock but (Y/N)'s eyes adapted to the lack of light quickly enough, however she couldn't help but slightly panic as this meant the power was probably out for the whole school. And that's when her panic sky rocketed.
She remembered Shadow had said he was scared of the dark and that he was also still in the school right now.
"Didn't he say he was helping out with some self defense club tonight?" she thought out loud.
She remembered about how he complained about it being a nuisance on a Friday night, yet for some reason it was mandatory he attend.
Already she was imagining a scenario where he was scared stiffless and no one would be paying attention to him, and if or when the lights came back on who knew what state he would be in. Confident her eye sight was good enough (Y/N) took off to the PE department but quickly found her sight failing her.
Any slightest slither of light reflected on windows scaring her, the storm outside sounded monstrous and her rapid footsteps echoing everywhere, making the school seem all that empty, terrified her. She started to panic for herself when she was snapped out her fright by colliding with the back of someone!
Stumbling back she lost her balance landing on her backside against the horribly cold floor. Whoever she banged into then went into a frenzy of questions.
"(Y/N)!? What are you still doing here? Are you alright?"
But she gave a small scream when whoever it was touched her arm.
"It's only me."
"Shadow!?" looking up she could vaguely see the outline of his quills
"What are you doing here?" He asked
"Well I could ask you the same thing!"
"I had to get some sports tape from Mr Clarks classroom, I was halfway back to the sports hall when the lights went out. Now what are you doing here?"
"I was worried about you!"
"Worried?"
"Yeah, because you said you didn't like the dark."
She couldn't see his expression but she wished she could, seeming though he was hesitating to give a reply. If the lights had been on she would have seen his slightly surprised expression.
"What I said was that I don't appreciate my sight being hindered. I am perfectly capable of seeing in the dark but I grow agitated when I can't see. In other words when my eyes are covered."
"Oh."
Geez, now I feel like an idiot. (Y/N) thought to herself. Yet she was unaware that Shadow had been secretly touched at her concern for him. Anyone else would have just left him to get on with whatever scared him.
"Come on get up, this floors freezing." he said helping her up.
However once stood up she gripped onto his arm firmly.
"What's wrong with you?"
"I didn't think I was scared of the dark but that was before I ran through the school in pitch black." she said turning away so he couldn't see her scared expression, seeming though she now knew he could see just fine.
"Well don't worry as I can see perfectly fine and trust me, there's nothing other than the classrooms."
But (Y/N) still couldn't help but shiver, still holding on. He gave a quiet sigh, thinking that now was as good a time as any.
"I think I know something that will help you calm down."
Before she could ask him what he meant she felt something warm on her lips. Just as the lights came back on.
