Sonic reader: Wreck-it Ralph
This one shot is based off Disney movie Wreck-it Ralph which Sonic appears in.
You are a gaming character
"If you leave your game stay safe stay alert and whatever you do don't die because if you die outside your own game you don't regenerate, ever. Game Over."
Left, right, forward, back, back, left and right, twirl! Getting perfect hits every time letting the music guide her to each step, (Y/N) had the big glowing words 'HOW TO PLAY!' above her head. She happily kept dancing on her electronic dance mat keeping an eye on the arcade owner.
He'd gotten older over the years but still wore the same white and black striped shirt but still loved every individual game. He turned the lights out and locked the doors, (Y/N) saw this as her cue to stop dancing.
Cupping her hand to her mouth she called to the other games:
"Alright guys! The arcades closed!"
All the arcade game characters stopped their automatic tutorials and relaxed, some spoke about Tapper's for a drink. (Y/N) herself stepped down from her dance mat and passing the other dance characters headed on the train to game central.
Stepping out into the cream coloured area gaming characters everywhere enjoying the days end. (Y/N) herself couldn't help but stand out slightly with her outfit decorated with fluorescent strips.
In this arcade all gaming characters were alive and at the end of each day would do as they pleased, many of them meeting up in game central or visiting other games. But if you visited another game you had to make sure that you didn't die, otherwise you don't regenerate, ever. Game Over.
"Yo (Y/N)!"
Stopping in her tracks a candy themed go kart screeched it a halt inches away from her, and there sat Vanellope at the drivers seat, Ralph perched on the back.
"Hey Vanellope! Ralph! What are you two doing?" (Y/N) asked sweetly.
"Nothing much, just giving Sonic a hand dishing out these invitations for his party." Vanellope said waving a pile of letters in her hand.
"Sonic's having a party?" (Y/N) asked taking an invite that Vanellope was waving at her.
"Yeah, it's been ten years since his game was plugged in and he wanted to celebrate. I can still remember when that little porcupine started running around here." Ralph said chuckling to himself at the last part.
"He's a hedgehog not a porcupine Ralph." (Y/N) chuckled at him.
"Who cares what he is he throws the best parties and we'll both be going! Are you coming this time (Y/N)!?" Vanellope asked excitedly.
"Y-yeah, of course." she smiled.
"Then we'll see you there! Hit the cake buttons Vanellope!" Ralph cried enthusiastically.
"They are called pedals Ralph!" Vanellope laughed at him.
Hitting the accelerator the two whizzed off with a puff of sparkly icing sugar from the exhaust. (Y/N) gave a happy wave as they went off to other games to deliver more invites. She then looked down at her invite.
Reading the details it was tomorrow shortly after the arcade closed. Tapping the invite to her lips (Y/N) wondered whether she would go or not, she liked Sonic. The two were incredible friends, but...
Shaking her head (Y/N) went back to her game deciding she would make up her mind tomorrow.
~The Next Day~
Right, forward, forward, back, back, left and right, jump! Keeping an eye on the arcade owner (Y/N) saw him doing the usual checks of all the games before leaving and closing up for the night.
"Alright guys! The arcades closed!" she once again called out to everyone.
Stepping down from her dance mat she pulled out her invite and giving a gulp she headed over to game central. Making it off the train straight away she could see many gaming characters headed to Sonic's game. She followed.
The Green Hill Zone was in full swing, party streamers in the palm trees, disco lights flashing and everyone chatting, having a good time or eating nibbles. Even the bad guys were having a good time. Eggman having fun with his fellow bad guys.
But then again ever since Ralph saved Sugar Rush all bad guys were treated nicely now.
"(Y/N)!"
Twirling around she was both relieved and delighted to see Sonic standing there.
"Hey Sonic!" she greeted with a grin like the Cheshire cat.
"Glad you could make it." he smiled back.
"Me too, by the way congrats on your game being plugged in for 10 years." she congratulated him.
"Thanks, I'm just happy you could celebrate with us. You know I would have met you at your game if you wanted." he lately offered.
"I can take care of myself, besides I wouldn't have wanted to put you to the trouble." she said gladly with a light blush.
The reason (Y/N) had been hesitant about coming to the party was because she had anxiety about the no regenerative rule, always terrified she'd kill her clumsy self in a game that wasn't hers. So the rare times she left her game she was always overly careful.
"Sonic you've got confetti in your quills." (Y/N) chuckled changing the subject.
"I do? Man Tails went crazy with confetti cannons and fire works." he said tousling his quills chuckling too.
"Hold still." she said.
Doing as he was told (Y/N) picked out the couple of multicoloured pieces of tissue paper, unaware that he had a tiny blush on his muzzle.
"Done!" she announced.
Clearing his throat he then grabbed her hand.
"Well come on then! I'm sure there's plenty of other people who want to see you!" he said.
(Y/N) happily let Sonic lead her around the party. She spoke to Amy who was really happy to see her, pretended to understand when Tails explained how he made all the cannons and fireworks and teased Sonic a little with Knuckles.
She even said hello to Eggman, who was actually really jolly. Among the crowds though (Y/N) spotted a couple of love birds.
"Aww they are so cute." (Y/N) smiled.
"Who?" Sonic asked.
(Y/N) then pointed to Calhoun and Felix, they were married and although Calhoun wasn't much for showing her affections in public Felix could barely stop the love hearts constantly floating around him nowadays.
"Yeah, you wouldn't think it but those two work really well together." Sonic agreed.
"I haven't seen them for awhile."
(Y/N) then remembered when she went to their wedding, in fact it was the first social event she went to concerning all the games. Her game had been plugged in five years ago and once she'd left her game and found out about the no regenerative rule she barely left.
But then one day several game characters visited to say welcome to the arcade, Sonic and his friends were among them, along with Vanellope, Ralph, Felix and Calhoun. Sonic and (Y/N) got to know each other and he offered to help her around the many games.
He even went with her to Felix and Calhoun's wedding, him being the reason she went. If she ever left her game it would 9/10 be with Sonic.
"You know if you left your game more you'd be able to see the others more often." Sonic carefully said.
"I know... but you know..." she trailed off.
"Yeah I know." he sympathetically smiled at her.
(Y/N) then expected him to suggest the go to another part of the party but instead he gave a snap of his fingers.
"I know! Come with me!" he suddenly said grabbing her hand again.
"What do you want to show me now?" she asked.
"Just wait!" he said excitably.
He led her to a quiet area of the game away from the party near one of the Green Hill Zone tracks. He then jumped behind a bush and she could hear him rustling about.
"Sonic what are you doing?" she asked confused.
"Hang on a minute!" He called from behind the bush.
She waited for about a minute tapping her foot, what in the arcade is he doing?
"Got one!"
He then jumped out of the bush looking triumphant holding one of the many rings available in his game.
"It's hard to find a ring when no ones actually playing but there are a couple lying about. Here." he said holding the ring out to her.
Taking the ring it was the perfect size to be a bracelet.
"What's this for?" she asked, grateful for the token.
"It's to give you more confidence when leaving your game. As long as I have one ring on me I'm fine, so if you have one as well you should be fine." he explained.
"B-but I don't have anything to give you." she stuttered.
"Just leave your game more often and spend more time with us, that's all I'd like off you." he smiled.
"Thank you Sonic." she said sincerely.
"No problem, now come lets get back to the party otherwise Amy will come looking after us!"
Making it back they had hardly been missed having not been gone for too long. (Y/N) looked down happily at her ring which she was wearing as a bracelet when a question popped into her head.
"Sonic? How exactly do you know your rings work even outside of your game?" she asked.
"Heh, that's easy. A while ago Ralph crashed into me flying a rocket from Hero's Duty, knocked the rings out of me but I was still standing." he explained a little smug.
"Did I hear my name?"
The two then saw Ralph and Vanellope.
"Oh don't worry Ralph we weren't saying anything bad about you, just your terrible driving skills." Sonic snickered.
"Yeah, I guess I should stick to wrecking buildings." Ralph chuckled sheepishly scratching the back of his head.
"And (Y/N) you sweet sugar mouse you made it!" Vanellope exclaimed happily hugging (Y/N) tight.
"Yeah I sure did." (Y/N) smiled hugging back.
The rest of the party continued and the atmosphere was as sweet as sugar everyone dancing and enjoying themselves. Then even with a bit of convincing (Y/N) too did some dancing, even trying to out do Sonic with his break dancing moves.
Eventually unfortunately the party did come to and end as the arcade would open again in a few hours, and as much as everyone didn't want to they had to head back to their own games. Just as (Y/N) was about to leave though Sonic asked.
"Sure you don't want an escort back?"
"No thank you, I think I'll be fine now. But feel free to drop by later if you want to beaten at dance mat." she teased slightly.
"Oh don't worry I will." he smirked.
Giving a wave she then headed through game central and back to her own game. And just before she took her place on her mat she gave a happy glance to her new bracelet.
"Five minuet warning guys! The arcade will open soon!" one of the other dance mat characters called.
Smiling (Y/N) took her place on her mat ready to dance the day away. And plenty of the children who played the game noticed her added feature.
When the day ended again she as usual called:
"Alright guys! The arcades closed!"
But before she could even move off her mat she felt a slight breeze behind her followed by a confident voice.
"So are you ready to beat me at dance mat?"
With a smirk she turned to face him.
"Of course I am. Which song do you want to do first?"
There's still 2 weeks left to enter my comp! And I've already received 5 entries! I can't thank you guys enough for taking part!
And I've also published a writing trades book.
